They stood in the middle of a wasteland, the brown land barren except for a row of charred structures. Only the frameworks of the buildings remained, spidery skeletons that teetered on the verge of collapse.
The thin layer of snow resting atop the wood made the whole place appear even more desolate, and the howling wind seemed to tell the tales of the wandering ghosts that remained attached to their homes even after death.
"Princess, would you like to leave now?"
Everything within her screamed for her to leave before she uncovered something that she did not really want to know, but her feet remained firmly planted on the ground.
"Can we walk closer?" Her voice trembled, lower than usual.
Nodding, he offered out a hand. "Only if you'll be careful."
