GISELLE
I stopped in my tracks when I walked into the kitchen the next morning to find the woman Nicholas had fucked last night.
Nicholas sat at the dining table with his laptop in front of him, and a cup of coffee next to him, acting like she didn't exist. What the fuck was going on here?
"What are you doing?" I asked, leveling the woman with a glare.
She was a brunette with gray eyes, and slender curves like that of a model's. I noticed this because she had on a tight dress that hugged every curve on her body.
"I'm the housekeeper. I'm Lenny." She held her hand out to me. "Did you sleep well last night? Pasta and tiramisu as a dessert, was it? I can only assume it didn't turn out great. Otherwise, it wouldn't have been in the trash."
I would've considered being the bigger person and accepted the handshake after what she just said, if only she didn't have a smug smile on her face, reminding me of the look on her face when I caught her with Nicholas last night.
She wasn't even remorseful. No, she wanted to rub it in. If she wanted to be petty, then two could play that game, and I'd show her I'd always win every single fucking time.
"The housekeeper, right?" I ignored her outstretched hand, taking a seat at the dining table with the chair turned outward to face Lenny. "I see you handled the dishes in the sink. After cooking and baking for over six hours, I forgot to wash them."
Nicholas finally looked up from his laptop, and in my peripheral, I saw him looking at me, but I ignored him.
"It's part of my job," Lenny replied with a forced smile.
I unlocked my phone, pretending like I was scrolling through messages. "Sara messaged me a few minutes ago. She said she's going to be late."
"Okay."
"Since you're a paid staff in this house, why don't you cook something for me?"
I was dressed for my workout session, and I had no plans to eat whatever she prepared, but she didn't have to know that. She was being a bitch, and I was only keeping the same energy.
The corners of Lenny's mouth tightened. "I'm sorry, but that isn't a part of my job description."
"And I could have sworn fucking my husband wasn't a part of the job, but oh well." I shrugged nonchalantly. "It seems like you like taking on more jobs than your description states."
Lenny's mouth dropped open, and her eyes sought Nicholas like he was going to stand up for her.
"What are you looking at, Lenny? Get to work. I want some bacon and eggs, and while you're at it, I want a green smoothie." I held out my bottle to her. "Chop chop."
She snatched the bottle out of my hand, glaring at me before setting to work on breakfast. She murmured to herself all the while through the task.
She was displeased she had to cook for me, but since she got no backup from Nicholas, there was nothing she could do about it.
"Here's your breakfast." She slammed a plate of bacon and fried eggs in front of me.
"Did I say fried eggs? I meant scrambled eggs, Lenny."
"Scrambled eggs?"
"What? Am I being too bothersome?"
"Not at all, Giselle," she said through gritted teeth, a forced smile in place.
"That's ma'am to you. I don't fraternize or play friends with the hired help," I said with a smug smile of my own.
That was a dig meant for Nicholas, but being the unfeeling asshole he was, he didn't react.
Lenny huffed, taking the plate back to the counter.
"On a second thought, Lenny, I want them poached." I looked down at my nails to hide my amusement. Lenny wasn't happy in the slightest.
"Yes, ma'am."
Ten minutes later, I had a plate of bacon and eggs sitting next to me. I pretended to reach for my phone next to the plate on the dining table, knocking down the plate.
Lenny let out a horrified shriek as the plate shattered into pieces, the food scattered across the floors.
"Oops." I grinned up at her. "Guess I won't be eating that. How about we revert to you doing things in your job description? Clean up this mess."
I rose to my feet, walking over to the island where she'd already poured my smoothie inside my bottle. I grabbed the bottle and moved to the sink next.
"I changed my mind regarding the smoothie, too. I don't want it." I dumped the smoothie down the drain, rinsing the sink with some water. "Get to work."
By now, Nicholas had stopped whatever he was doing on his laptop. He leaned back in his chair, watching the scene unfold before him with... amusement?
Fucking cheating bastard! The sight of him infuriated me, but at least he knew better than to intervene or speak to me.
I hoisted myself up onto the island, watching Lenny clean the mess in the kitchen. When she was done and about to leave the kitchen, I called out to her.
"You said something about my food not turning out good. Well, I guess will never know. The man who was supposed to eat it was eating you out last night, so congratulations! You're fired."
"W-what?" Lenny sputtered, panic rising on her face. "You can't just fire me. Niko hired me."
"That's Mr. Rossi to you, and guess what, Lenny? He has a fucking wife who holds equal power like him in this house." I leaned forward, making sure she could read my lips. "You're. Fired. Get the fuck out of my house. You can get your wages from your sexcapedes with my husband."
"This is ridiculous. You have no fucking right to fire me. Niko, say something," Lenny shrieked.
"I dare you, Nicholas," I challenged, letting him see the fire in my eyes. "Say something."
His eyes darkened at my challenge, but he said nothing. When Lenny realized she was alone, she glared at me.
"Fire me all you want, but the truth is you can't make him love you." Her eyes were gray pools of malice as she spoke. "Daddy's little princess can't keep a man, and now she's pissed he's fucking another woman whose body he finds desirable. Face it, Giselle. He'll never want you.
"The sooner you realize that, the better for you. What are you going to do when he fucks another woman? Send people to kill her? Be honest with yourself, honey. This is going to happen again. He'll fuck another woman, that's not you. You're just a pathetic replacement for your sister. You killed..."
A loud bang in the kitchen cut Leslie off. Nicholas had shot a bullet into the wall dangerously close to her head, effectively silencing her. Where did he even get the gun from?
"If you want to leave here with your life intact, I suggest you turn around and get the fuck out right now," Nicholas threatened, his eyes filled with rage.
He didn't need to tell her twice. She bolted out of the kitchen.
I hopped off the island, gripping the marble countertop to steel myself against the impending tears because where was the lie? Nicholas would continue to cheat on me and I was stuck with him forever, knowing fully well that it was my sister he wanted.
"Because of you, Nicholas, the hired help disrespected me." I laughed humorlessly. "Who's it gonna be next? Some hooker at a strip club?"
My breath caught in my throat when he pressed the muzzle of his gun underneath my chin.
"How about we talk about you disrespecting me?" He hissed into my ear, his breath harsh. "Never challenge me like that, dolcezza. Especially not in front of my men."
I tipped my head back to look up at him through my lashes. "Or what?" I challenged. I was pushing the line, and I knew it. It was nothing close to the hurt I felt by his actions.
"You don't want to know, dolcezza," he whispered, his voice holding a dark promise. "I don't take disrespect and disloyalty lightly."
I whipped around to face him, matching his menacing gaze with mine. His rich, spicy cologne permeated the air between us, making me heady, but I couldn't dwell on that right now. The man who wore the cologne was an infuriating bastard.
"Sounds like you're a hypocrite, then. You don't practice what you preach." I took the gun out of his hand, placing it on the counter behind me. "Last time I checked, you've been nothing but disrespectful and disloyal to me. Now, you feel threatened, big guy? I'm only returning the favor."
"Careful," he warned, tugging hard on my ponytail. His other hand wrapped around my neck, teasing at how easily he could take my life by just squeezing my windpipe. "Don't push your luck, dolcezza. I put a bullet between my father's eyes. Nothing is stopping me from doing the same with you."
"Then, do it. Can't, can you? I know Lenny won't be the last woman. If you're going to sleep with more of them, don't bring them into this house. I'll extend that same courtesy when I see other men."
He snarled at me. "Jealous, are we?"
"Not on your life, Nicholas. And I am not your doll. Never will be."
I took advantage of the object of surprise, pushing him away from me until the distance was back between us - just how I liked it.
