I've been trying to write a chapter for this story all day but for the first time since I started publishing fanfictions I have absolutely no idea what to do with my story.
First off, it's got nothing to do Mark's power level. I've written nigh omnipotent MC's before and had absolutely no trouble driving them all the way to the finish line.
The problem stems from Mark's idealism. Which is a big fucking deal because from chapter one all the choices Mark has made have been guided by his dream to achieve a Utopia that will last as long as he does.
I dropped Mark in DC as a final test of his ideology. The Invincible Verse completely validates Mark's choices, the Marvel Verse also failed to provide him any real alternative perspective, and I hoped that DC would be where Mark would see unabashedly good heroes and that would resonate with his very cynical character, but I haven't been able to think of a single series of events that could even move the needle on Mark's Moral compass slightly.
So I am asking the audience for help. I don't want to end this story on a flat note, so do any of you know any DC comics I could read that would put Mark's solutions to the test?
I thought Kingdom Come might do it, but after going through it again all I felt was meh. It validated the Superman style heroism vs violent superheroism, but that isn't what Mark is. Those guys were all retarded in that comic. It was just supers killing each other nonstop until the world was pretty much fucked.
I remember it meaning more to me when I first read it, but now it doesn't mean anything to me. Dark Knights: Metal and Dark Knights: Death Metal didn't do it for me either, as those are just straight up power up stories that don't have a moral dilemma at all.
If I can't think of something by the end of the week Mark and Darkseid are going to battle it out next chapter and then I'll do a short epilogue scene.
So let me know if you think there is any DC content that has a chance of making Mark reflect on his choices at the very least.
