Capítulo 259: Academy Breach [8]

"-I do not negotiate with terrorists."

'Thank you, father...'

I was happy to hear that my father had finally collected himself to know better than to play along with the James' games, as no matter what happened, there was no insurance that any of us would get to leave this room alive.

Despite that fact, I also believed me to know that my life was never in danger in the first place, something that my father also must've realized. Because the choice that James had given him wasn't actually a choice at all, meaning he most likely just wanted to make the king of Mensch look bad in the eyes of his people when choosing an innocent civilian to die.

No matter how insane the situation was, people would still be unable to completely accept him choosing someone other than me to die, as it would be against the symbolism of royalty. Honestly, I would also rather die than be a part of the fall of the royal house, as I knew what kind of disaster that would bring with it.

"Ha...hahahaa.. hahahahaha!"

However, instead of getting frustrated or agitated, the white-haired villain of this story merely laughed, covering his mask with one of his hands.

'Did he truly go insane...'

It still hurt to see the man that I had loved in the past act like this, seemingly having lost every single fraction of sanity, merely acting like a madman.

"-Why are you laughing?!"

Pretending to wipe a tear from his eyes, our host managed to suppress whatever kind of crazy impulse had taken over him.

"Ahaha... Why I'm laughing? Because it's hilarious. It's hilarious that you are seemingly still trying to act like you don't understand this situation. But, I guess I have to make it even clearer for you."

"-What are you doing..."

Walking to the side of the stage, where the teachers were bound, he took a hold of one of them, a female teacher with light-brown hair. Her eyes shot up in fear as he grabbed into the ropes around her body, pulling her towards the center stage while she was desperately thrashing around, trying to make him let go.

Dropping her right below one of the spotlights that shone down on us, he took out the huge black scythe which quickly made tears appear in the woman's eyes who couldn't speak due to the gag in her mouth.

"HNNNFF!"

*Splurt!*

A second later, the teary-eyed face was now rolling down from the stage, making the students standing in front of it take a step back, avoiding the severed head with pale faces. I could almost see how a few of them started to regret their choice, but at this point, they didn't dare to go back either.

Yet, what was truly absurd about the students standing there was the fact that Stella's face didn't pale at all. No, the look she had on her face was so out of place that it made my back grow cold.

However, because our host once again opened his mouth, I had no choice but to ignore the creepy smile on her face for now.

"Does this make things a bit easier to understand? Now, I will ask you again, which one of these two students will have to carry the burden of your sins? Will it be the daughter to which you are related by blood, the one you have tried to sculpt into yet another piece in this twisted puzzle, or will it be the innocent, unrelated young man?"

"-Bastard..."

Taking a step toward us, while still keeping his eyes turned toward the camera on the back end of the room, James almost looked like he reveled when hearing my father's words, almost as if was ecstatic to hear himself being cursed.

"That might be true, my dear king. However, didn't I already tell you before? We are the same. And because we are the same, I know that just like when you robbed me of my normal life, I also carry no shame for doing what has to be done."

"-That...! That's no reason to bring these people into this, James!"

"Hmm... But it wouldn't be a fair trade if it wasn't an innocent life for an innocent life, Your Highness. And although I would like nothing more than to see your head roll for your sins, that would not be an equal trade."

Now standing right behind me and Peter, I quickly took hold of the unconscious man, trying to cover him with my body. At this point, I couldn't help but be scared. Because I now realized that no matter how I tried, I would never be able to understand him.

"Stay away..."

No matter how I had tried to ignore the facts, I now realized that even if my father chose me, James wouldn't hesitate to claim my life.

Unable to withhold my tears from falling, I felt a surge of panic rise in my stomach, twisting my inside to the point where a wave of nausea completely overtook me.

"Sniff... Please... please James... please don't do this..."

Yet, he ignored me once again.

"Now, I want you to choose, George Lindt, king of the humans, leader of the nation of Mensch. Which one will you..."

"One, we have a problem."

Suddenly, the green-haired man that had acted as the second-in-command during all of this flew up to the stage, giving something to James.

Unable to see what it was, I could only see him put something in his ear, making me assume that it was some sort of earpiece for communication.

"I see. That's truly unfortunate... So, how much time...", yet as he was about to finish his question, he got interrupted by a loud sound.

*BOOOM!*

A huge explosion rang out, making dust and debris fill the room, forcing everyone to cover their eyes.

"Hmm, yeah, that was not a lot of time at all, was it? Please do make your way here, Two, because I'm not sure if we are able to handle him by ourselves."

As the dust settled, we could finally see the bright light coming in from the outside, streaming in from a giant hole made in the wall. From there, a large man slowly walked forward, wearing a pair of black pants and a fluff-collared jacket with nothing beneath it, showing his immaculately muscled body.

"There you are, boy! I was wondering when I would get to see you again!"

With a haughty smile, the man appeared to have no sense of apprehension toward the villain nor his green-haired accomplices that now ran forward with their spears readier, surrounding the invader.

*Splurt!*

Too focused on what happened on the other side of the room, I felt my face pale as I suddenly saw the black scythe piercing the body of the boy I was holding onto, instantly claiming Peter's life.

"Yes, here I am, Mr. Naut. What unfortunate timing you bear with you, but I guess it can't be helped. I see that you managed to find two of my old friends on your way as well."

And there they were, appearing from behind Mr. Naut, two very familiar individuals that had finally made their return.

'Sophie... Arthur...'

[Frederick's Pov]

"Principal! Shouldn't we do something?!"

As easily agitated as always, Oliver had a hard time staying idle, like all of us aware that something was most likely happening in the main building.

"We cannot. If we move from here, it will only lead to us getting attacked in the back. And looking at their numbers, I'm afraid we wouldn't stand much of a chance. Even more so with that monster-like old man leading them. Also, are you prepared to give up Jessica's life for something that most likely would bear no fruit?"

"I... Shit!"

Stomping his feet while turning away, he also understood just why we couldn't do anything.

In the end, James had managed to create the scenario he wanted, with us completely tied up in front of the Hurricanes, without much choice but to wait, while keeping our guards up in case they suddenly decided to attack.

However, just while I was thinking that it couldn't be helped, I sensed a presence enter my territory, a presence that I had only met a couple of times in my life, and someone that I absolutely didn't want to meet again.

At the same time, it was impossible for me to miss the fact that Mr. Cane seemed to have sensed the same thing, making his brows wrinkle a bit.

It didn't take long until he was speaking with someone over a hands-free earpiece, covering the sounds of their conversation by using a wall of wind.

'Seems like they didn't anticipate this either...'

A second later, the old man took to the air, making the sand covering the training ground fly outwards from the wind that carried him away.

With an even larger headache, knowing that things would escalate even more now that yet another monster had arrived, I closed my eyes, still aware that our specific situation didn't change at all.

We were still forced to simply stand on the sidelines and wait to see what the results would be.
