Capítulo 9: Chapter 9: Villain Arnold Simmons
Grand Old Sir Simmons cared about lineage, but that's all there was to it. Even though Arnold Simmons was taken back to the Simmons Family, he was given little attention or care, no matter how he was ridiculed by others.
Not until the demise of the Grand Old Sir Simmons did things start to turn sour. His only son took over the family business. Everyone speculated how he would deal with his brother Arnold, of the same age as his son. Then an accident happened, the couple of the Simmons Family lost their lives in a fatal car crash.
At that point, Eldest Young Master Simmons, Jimmy Simmons, and Arnold Simmons were the only heirs left in the Simmons family. Soon after, Jimmy disappeared, leaving Arnold as the indisputable heir.
The fatalities of three individuals and a mysterious disappearance - everyone guessed Arnold must have something to do with these incidents. However, due to his cunning ways, no one dared to accuse him directly.
Not only did they hold their tongues, but they also tried to gain his favor.
Compared to Hannah Winter, who impulsively charges into danger, Arnold seemed more like a worthy antagonist. He single-handedly drove the story forward and challenged the female lead and her numerous admirers. Indeed, he's a rare character who doesn't fall under the fable protagonist's halo.
Ironically, one of the leading male characters Hannah had to win over was Arnold's nephew, the Eldest Young Master Simmons who had disappeared - Jimmy Simmons.
This was why Golden Lotus was so anxious about Hannah getting close to Arnold.
As if going through all the abusive love storylines wasn't enough, now she attracted the attention of Arnold, a man who turned sadistic and murderous in the later part of the story.
Seems like her master really isn't afraid of upending everything.
Hannah merely giggled, shook off the droplets of water on her hands and said, "Golden Lotus, you just don't understand. The more cars we have, the less we fear one flipping over. The more boats we possess, the steadier we can sail."
Golden Lotus: "..."
Hannah flicked the last droplet of water off her hand, examining her familiar yet foreign-looking face in the mirror.
The young girl really did look innocent. Her face was bright and clean, especially a pair of catlike eyes, that carried a lazy pride when she wasn't smiling.
When she did smile, the charm emerged from the innocence. It was a paradox, yet, harmoniously intertwined.
In the story, every lead male character saw Hannah Winter as a replacement for Tiffany Lynch, but in Hannah's eyes, they did not look very alike.
The original host was just too foolish, striving to please those men by adapting herself to resemble Tiffany, making herself up in a way that didn't suit her at all, turning herself into a joke.
Pathetic but pitiful indeed.
Coming out of the washroom, Hannah bumped into Arnold within just a few steps.
The man leaned against the wall in the corner, casually holding a burning cigarette between his fingers and playing with a sleek silver lighter in his other hand. The unevenly reflected light complimented the man's side profile.

Arnold closed the silver lighter in his hand, his gaze falling nonchalantly on Hannah standing aside. The young girl's face, pure and innocent, couldn't be concealed even with makeup. Her eyes carried a hint of mistiness, and droplets clung onto her still-wet face. Her porcelain skin seemed almost fragile, and was exceedingly fair.
He had to admit, the moment the young girl entered the private room, she had caught his attention. Those pair of bright, black, cat-likeness eyes did arouse his seldom interest. Unfortunately, she was too naive.
No doubt, everyone in that private room was there because of him, especially the cluster of women. Yet, the only one who fearlessly came to toast him was that one girl.
Perhaps she was genuinely so foolish that she didn't even know what fear was.
