The man ... the man she loved; even for a short time, she had been sure of her feelings, and now after what had happened recently, her head seemed to be muddled.

Should she tell what happened in the first place, as Jeremiah now asks? What for? Why would that man want to know about Drake? Didn't he hate the pale-skinned man?

"May I ask first? Why did you seem to hate Drake so much?

"I hate all men who approach you. You saw how I treated Will, didn't you?"
