"What?!" Yan snaps suddenly, making me flinch. He shoots me a glance as though realizing what he did but doesn't say anything. Instead, he gently lifts me off his lap with one arm. I steady on my feet as I watch him start to pace in the living room of the penthouse.

I know it's Jax he's talking on the other line, but I didn't hear what Jax said that got Yan looking distressed.

"What do you mean she's there?" he continues while I listen to the one-sided conversation of his phone call with his best friend.

And who is "she"? His secretary? One of his exes? That model? God, I'm so bad at this. All I heard was "she" and I automatically thought about those women. He wouldn't be this bothered if it were them, would he? I want to ask him to stop myself from coming up with ridiculous ideas, but I can't interrupt him right now. So I reach for my coffee and sit back on his chair, pulling my knees up as I quietly observe.

"What did she want?"
