Capítulo 51: Monsters

Neil locked his lips tightly, he pressed down the hat covering half his face and took the vibrating cell phone in his pocket.

Neil opened the foreign number listed on the screen showing a short message making Neil frown.

'You forgot your mother? Where are you now when I need you?'

Neil immediately deleted the message quickly he just felt awkward when the person who claimed to be his mother suddenly sent a short message to him.

Why not in the years before this and the message does not look like a mother. Maybe just random people who just want to work on him.

Neil's phone vibrated again in his hand and Neil quickly opened it.

'You insolent deleted your own mother's message.'

Neil immediately turned off his cell phone at that moment and pocketed it. He rubbed the surface of his neck which was still throbbing painfully.

Was the person sending the message his mother whom Neil had never met?

Neil doesn't know.

"Who texted you?" Sain suddenly asked amidst the painful throbbing in his neck.

Neil was unable to even just lift his face. It's so painful it's getting sicker over time.

"Not anyone, just a prankster," he said.

"I know, don't lie," Sain cut in quickly bringing a twitch around Neil's mouth.

Neil remains stubborn, he won't say the content and who the message is from. Then Neil said in a choked voice. "Yes, Riksa. Watch your way."

"I'll know," snorted Sain slamming the steering wheel toward the corner.

Neil was a little relieved when Michelia didn't try to say something that would only hurt him even more.

They were silent again in their thoughts until the car stopped at what Neil thought was his mother's house and Skylar lived as it was in the real world.

"Do you think the mother is here?" asked Neil feeling awkward saying 'mom' through his tongue. As long as Neil remembered him it was as if he never said that.

"I don't know," Michelia answered quietly. They had both just arrived, it was clear that Sain, Michelia, and himself wouldn't know that.

Michelia chose to go out first, they were still feeling awkward after last night's phone call which disappointed Neil. Sain turned to face Neil who slowly moved to remove the seat belt that was wrapped around his body.

"Are you in pain?" asked Sain suddenly.

"Huh?" Neil blinked in confusion when Sain's guess was right on target.

"Don't think I don't see you who keep on grimacing holding your neck and moving restlessly," said Sain leaning close to Neil who was already preparing to come out.

Neil was afraid that later Michelia would catch them in a strange position like now. "You're exaggerating. Nothing happened. Lia can see us."

Neil quickly got out of the car with his face warm and luckily the hat he was wearing covered it all.

Neil walked closer to the side where Michelia was standing silently on the terrace of the Skylar house. Neil looked closely at the house which looked familiar in his memory. Neil seemed to have come here before, but in reality, it was impossible and only in his mind.

Neil turned his head when he felt a warm feeling wrapped around Neil's palm that came from Sain. Neil quickly let go of them scared Michelia saw their weirdness.

"How do we get in? For what reason?" Michelia finally opened her voice.

Neil shrugged, he didn't think until there. Maybe they should come and see who was inside first before coming to the cupboard that Michelia was referring to last night. "We have to see who lives in this house first?"

"Right," said Sain who lightly pinched Neil's hips. Sain raised his hand to knock on the door.

The first knock did not answer from within until the fourth knock from Sain and the sound of footsteps from inside.

Neil waited anxiously. For some reason, her heart was pounding wildly as the door swung open. It revealed a woman the same age as her father, standing in front of them.

"What is it?" The voice of a middle-aged woman that Neil remembered well entered his ears and Neil never expected that the person in his darkest dream was standing in front of Neil and grinning at him.

"Hold this knife tightly in your hand." A sharp sound stopped Neil's movement to place the knife on the table. Terrified fear made his body tremble, he stood stiffly staring at the knife in his hand. "Grab the sharp part."

"But—"

"I said grab it, cut your hand. Make a lot of blood for me." This time the voice sounded loud in the closed room.

Neil took a deep breath. He was very scared and wanted to run away from here. Neil gulped watching how the monster was grinning as he gripped the knife tightly in his hand, he gasped in pain as if the knife had cut him open. Blood dripped out, staining the floor covered with hairy carpet drop by drop.

The monster gripped his wrist tightly with an angry growl. "Don't let the drops go to waste, you will destroy my ritual."

Neil held back the cry that was about to escape his lips. The knife fell from his hand leaving a painful throb in Neil's palm.

All for Skylar. Neil reminded it constantly in his mind to stay afloat for a long time.

"Don't expect you to be able to complain," he snapped making Neil flinch. Neil's hand was pulled and pressed roughly against the surface of the mirror to smear the blood that came out with an increasingly stinging pain until Neil finally screamed because he couldn't hold it in anymore. He roared through the room with his voice of pain. His cheeks were wet with tears that Neil couldn't hold back anymore.

"Pain? This is how your life can be useful. Even Skylar runs from you and is ashamed to have a twin-like you. You bastard."

After being physically injured, Neil felt his heart being slashed making him not want to open his eyes again. Everything seemed to blur for a moment.

"I forgot to mention, before that the mirror was doused with lime juice with a little salt," he laughed loudly. Neil fell huddled on the floor pressing his hands to his ears desperately trying to block the sound from reaching his ears.

The laughter stopped but wasn't enough to make Neil remove his bloody hand from the side of his head until he heard a whisper from the monster. "There's no need for a reason to make you suffer."

Everything is dark and light.

***

When his eyelids opened and caught the light of the room that made his eyes unaccustomed. Neil felt his cheeks wet from the tears that were involuntarily coming out.

His eyes rolled to the clock. Five minutes. Only five minutes he fell asleep. With nightmares, which are long and painful. He couldn't believe this. Again he asked, what happened?
