Capítulo 15: Regret

Chapter fifteen

What should she do? She has to do something.

Jessica ran inside the ambulance for anything sharp she could use.

Asides from the fact that the undead people are dead people that came alive again. However, there's a way you could kill them. Yes, according to her dream.

She picks up the knives and runs out again. She moves nearer to one and stabs him in the head. He drops dead on the floor.

One looks up at her and jumps to attack her. She dodges and throws the knife at his head.

Another one holds her from the back and struggles to bite her. She kicks him off her and quickly stabs him in the heart before he gets up.

Jessica stands and looks over at the people that have been bitten so far. Beads of perspiration trickle down her face as she thinks of what to do.

She should call Jake or Gaius.

She delved into her pocket for her phone and realized she didn't take it from the bag which is still in the restaurant. She has to think fast. If those men turned earlier, then these people only have a few minutes before they turn.

Jessica made a flashback to what Gauis said after they made an experiment on the rat back then. Yes, fire!

"Hey, you all should enter the bus. We need to get you all to the hospital," she screams at them and hopes they all agree because she wouldn't be able to force them as there are way too many.

"Yes please, I don't want to turn to those men earlier," a lady sobs out loud.

Jessica nods and starts to help some of them enter the car. She closed the door and paused for a few minutes.

What if these people don't turn? Won't that mean she will be killing human beings?

Jessica enters the driver's seat and watches them all from the little window neatly carved there.

The first thing she notices is the pain. They all start having severe pains at the point where they were all bitten. Then, blood starts gushing out of their ears and nose.

And_ they did turn!

Jessica rushes out and gets a bottle of petrol.

She litters the car with petrol. She lit the fire and threw it over the bus. She runs away just as the car explodes.

She can't believe the dream is becoming reality? She can't even think straight. She needs to call Jake the moment she gets to the hotel. What's she going to do if it all turns out like what she saw in her dream?

Lots of people died! Gosh! What's she going to do?

The hotel seems normal. It's like the undead hasn't gotten anywhere around here. Maybe she did manage to kill everyone that was contacted already.

It still amazes her nevertheless that her dream is becoming reality already. Although she still finds it difficult to believe a machine took her to the future.

She enters her room and picks up the phone on her table. She had missed calls. Some from her father, some from Stanley and Jake.

Who should she call first? With what she had just seen, perhaps she should call Stanley. Maybe Gauis will be able to make an antivirus.

Her body shakes with slight tremor as to what would happen if the infection spreads, especially if everywhere becomes what had happened in her dream.

She sits and dial her father's line. There was no response the first time. She called back and there still was no response. What's happening? Her father is always close to his phone. Aside from that, he has guards that handle his phone. If he's not there, they would pick up the call for her because she's his one and only daughter. And she has a huge right over them.

She decides to call Jake instead. He picks up immediately, "Jessica, where are you?" His voice sounds shaking. There were hints of fear and increased heartbeats. Did something happen? Perhaps Jake is with his girlfriend. She doesn't even want to think much about it.

"I'm in a hotel in Roseville. Our bus had a fault. So, we will move tomorrow. Where are you," she wants to tell him about the incident that just came up but she still doesn't know how to start it. But she would have to say it eventually. And she would have to call a meeting and discuss how this would go about.

Jake sighs," I'm in Roderwall. I thought I would meet you here. Which hotel are you exactly?" Jake has a way of staying cool even in times of trouble. If no one else can see through him, Jessica can. And she can tell there's something wrong with his voice.

" Is something wrong? Where's dad? I saw his missed calls and I tried calling back. But he's not picking up."

Jake sighs again, and Jessica hears little sobs," I will give the phone to your mom," he says and before she could say anything else, sobs fill her ears. It's her mom.

" Hi Mom, why are you crying?"

"It's your father," she sobs harder, "I don't know what they are and where they came from. They looked human but different. They took your father from me," she cries the most.

Jessica didn't understand what she meant but her heart hammered wildly in her chest at the description, "What are you saying, mom?"

"Your dad is dead and yet he's alive," her voice results into a mere whisper

It's not making any sense, Jessica reasons the most.

"Give the phone back to Jake, mom. Maybe he can explain better"

" Hello, Jessica, "Jake says, and Jessica sigh. Her heart starts beating faster. She hopes what she's thinking isn't what is happening, "What you saw in your dream is happening Jessica. The virus is spreading faster than we realize. Thank God I came here or your mom would have died. Your father got bitten and he has turned already"

Jessica could feel the blood leave her face. She didn't know when the phone dropped from her. She couldn't contain it. She let out a loud yelp. Her heartbeat increases.

Jake did ask her. He told her what she would do if her dream turned real. He asked her if she would be ready to accept the consequences.

Now, she has killed her father. Yes, she killed him. If she had gone back to Roderwall in time, she would have saved him. No, if she had believed Gaius, she would have saved him and the others.

No, this wasn't her fault. She just can't stop herself from feeling the pain. Her chest feels so tight and she couldn't stop the tears from coming down her face.

This was all Charles' fault.

She wipes off the tears and swore to kill Charles Mardiv. She will avenge her father's death.

Gosh, she can't believe her father is gone like that.

And the battle has just begun.
