Capítulo 16: Experimentation
Lately, Albert had studied the various effects and properties of flora all around the Far, Far Range. From the mushrooms on the feral path to the coil grass in the glass desert. He had studied all the effects, all the tastes, all the locations and he had filled about half of his journal with the plants. But he had learned of something that happens in botany.
Mixed breeding, or by its more common name, hybrids. Plants could become hybrids just like animals. An example of this could be seen in grapefruit and a tangerine, combining and creating the tangelo.
He grabbed some ash and placed it in a small jar with holes, he then placed a little bit of fire flower spores he collected from the grotto, and he then placed a seed from a patch of starflowers he had obtained from the ancient ruins.
He placed it under a high voltage light and a heater as he waited for a few moments with a pen and his journal in his hands. Soon enough a small but very bright flower popped out of the ash, fire flowers had a tendency of growing fast but starflowers grow slower but live very long. He did not have high hopes for the experiment but the flower was very hot, and when he took the jar outside to see how it would glow at night. The very air started to burn with yellow flames, and the flower started to push out spores as the flower slowly but surely grew out of the jar while it was in his hands.
The Yellow flames floated up very high and looked like a cluster of stars, he knew he had to name this flower the 'Star Cluster flower'.
It had beautifully lit up the night sky. But he had more experiments to do with this flower, so he took a sample and placed it on a table in his lab. Water was poured on the sample, and as the sample was soon drenched in water, the sample started to light up and then immediately stop producing light and fizzing like a broken light bulb.
He went out to see the flowers behind his house again as the flower started to release a small blue cloud of pollen, as it floated in the sky of the rising sun it looked as if there was a small galaxy behind his house.
Pretty. That was the only thought he had as he changed the name of 'Star Cluster flower' in his journal to 'Nebula flower'.
If just one hybrid was this pretty then what about others? He took some cotton flower seeds that he obtained from the wilds and some wildflower seeds from when he last ventured into the Moss Blanket.
He grabbed a small box this time instead of a jar due to the reason that cotton flowers and wildflowers took a bit more time and effort than a fire flower. He placed soil and rock into the box and then placed the seeds while using his tangle trait to increase the growing speed of the seeds in the box. He watered it every few seconds until!... A little sprout came out of the soil, but this was unfortunately just a simple cotton flower, or was it? Cotton flowers were supposed to be peach pink however this one was a light purple.
It had the same petals and silky texture on its petals but it had different coloration and a different type of stem. Normally it had a slightly thin stem that made it wave in the wind and reproduced by flying into the air and releasing its seeds in spots it lands, however, its stem was rather thick, and its center had a darker purple than its light purple petals.
Another Success!
But as he finished doing his celebratory dance, he realized one thing that made him have cold sweat, He widened his eyes in the realization of the war crime he had committed, He hadn't eaten dinner or breakfast!
He walked with shame to his kitchen, in his excitement he hadn't eaten two meals (scary!), but he had to eat lunch now least he forsake his entire bloodline more.
He went into the kitchen a prepared some Odd Onion by dicing half and cutting the other into rings. He cracked two eggs into a bowl and mixed them together while preparing another bowl with flour this time. He filled a pan up with oil and put it on high heat, He covered a few onion rings in egg and then in flour and repeat one more time, after that he placed the onion rings in the oil until they turned golden brown.
He grabbed some chicken and fried it in the oil as well, he then grabbed some burger buns and placed them on a hot pan for a few seconds and took them off. He made a sauce from fire flower pollen and a bit of sour cream he made with wildflower sap. He covered the surface of the buns with the sauce and placed some leaves on the bottom (lettuce) with the chicken in the middle and a slice of pogofruit on top of the chicken.
With this, he had made his lunch for the day. Fried chicken burger, with a side of onion rings and spice Fire flower sauce.
He went outside and sat on a chair he made to watch the slime sea at the docks. He watched the slime sea make some waves from the wind. He started chomping on his burger with delight as he looked at the Largos in his Ranch. The big guys were starting to get a little more friendly with him usually, but there was one Largo. It was a Tangle Saber Largo that appeared on accident, but the little guy was too cute, although he ate a few Hens and always escaped from his corral, he stayed on his side. He sat and watched the slime sea together with the Largo, he had given him a name too, Frio.
Frio went and sat with him and stayed there until...
"Damn it Frio how many times have I told you not to steal my food!"-Albert
Albert shouted at Frio while chasing after him with a half-eaten burger in his hand.
