Artemis' POV

"Tell me again what you did to offend the wizards so much," Beck asks me.

I let out a sigh. We have stopped in the middle of the crowd looking for Letitia, who seems to be nowhere to be found. Beck is much taller than the majority of creatures here, so he can see over the heads of those around us while looking for my best friend, but he can’t find her.

"We crossed paths once on Baltazar's mission," I say.

"He sent you to assassinate them." Beck's words are not a question, but a clarification.

I shake my head. "I swear, they are no good. Baltazar had made a deal with them, but things didn't go as he expected, so he refused to pay them for the contract. The wizards were upset with Baltazar, and to show them that he wasn't afraid of them, he sent me to… Let's say, to give them a statement of strength."
