Capítulo 2: First step

To my immense relief, it seemed as if the world I now found myself in was not the violent version of the Pokéverse, but rather the more peaceful version I had grown to love in both the games and the few episodes of the show I had watched when I was younger.

Of course, with the inherent power given to practically every Pokémon upon birth, it was obvious that violence was not completely absent from this world, let alone the darker sides of the human society, like the different Teams in all the regions, but overall it was much more peaceful than my old world.

Which was somewhat weird if you considered the inherent desire of each Pokémon to grow in strength, be that fighting or to secure the best mates for evolutionary purposes. Of course there were also a lot of peaceful more serene Pokémon but as always the exception to the rule only confirms it.

And my new partner in crime was no exception, that much had become apparent to me rather quickly, after getting to know him for all but a few minutes.

Yes, him. Apparently my Gastly is male, which I had no idea was possible, but he was very adamant about that little fact.

And on top of that, when I had asked him if he wanted to grow stronger so that we could challenge the league he had only looked at me as if I was an idiot who was asking him such a dumb question. I hadn't said anything further on the matter after that.

However, it seemed my Gastly had been pushed into a contemplative mood upon my question and I left him to his thoughts while I was going over the move pool my new companion possessed.

Luckily, my Pokédex kept track of all the moves my Pokémon had learned so far, which made the whole training thing much easier for me, and would help me immensely at improving to be a trainer as well.

After all, now that I was a real part of this world and would soon battle actual trainers, I was acutely aware of the fact that I could no longer just press a button and choose from four different moves, which all had a chance to hit or miss. Instead I would really need to learn how to command my Pokémon and train them in a certain way to bring out the best of them, as I would otherwise not get very far.

In that respect I was glad that I had actually given lessons before in my WT classes, and knew how to fight myself. If not to an expert level, as I myself had still been a student, but proficiently enough to guide somebody else to improve.

Anyway, I would soon have to begin making plans. Plan out training schedules, different exercises to increase my Pokémon's stats and move pool so to speak, and also learn how to give the best commands on the fly. I was really looking forwards to that last one actually.

"Hey Gastly, now that I think about it, you don't even have a real name for yourself, do you?" I asked my silently floating companion, who shook his head in denial before looking at me expectantly.

"So, you want one?" I asked back, only to make sure I hadn't interpreted his expression the wrong way. I hadn't.

While we kept on walking, soon leaving behind the crop of trees I had awoken in, my feet soon fell upon the dusty sand road which would take us to Veridian City according to my digital map, I kept on musing on different names for my new Ghost friend.

Even though I was no expert in Pokémon lore and their overall inherent traits, I think I remember reading somewhere that it was always speculated amongst the inhabitants of this world that the Ghost Pokémon of the Gastly-line were actually beings from a different dimension entirely. And the further the Ghost Pokémon got in its evolution and growth of power, the easier it became for said Pokémon to influence and visit other dimensions.

Let alone their abilities to influence other people's dreams and drive them insane with both pranks and nightmares if the stories are to be believed.

"I think I have an idea. I think we both know that you will one day evolve into a Gengar if we have anything to say about it, right?" I asked, already knowing the answer but still looking for the confirmation, which was given in the form of a grinning hiss coming from my partner in crime.

"Right." I continued. "And considering the fact that Gengar are both lethal in battle as in their sense of humour," at that we both chortled a little, "I think it would be only fitting to name you Joker. After all, to the truly mighty most battles are practically a joke. And I'll be damned if we won't get there ourselves one day!" I finished while a fire burned in both of our eyes, which pretty much ended any form of discussion on the part of my partner's new name.

"Thou shall henceforth be called, sir Joker!" I finished dramatically with a small bow in my Pokémon's direction, after which the both of us chuckled lightly, until my friend seemingly had enough about floating around and returned himself to his Ultraball, as if at a ghost's hand…

Thus, without my conversational companion at my side, I had some more time to contemplate how I was going to set up the training from now onwards.

In the games a Pokémon was born with IV's, short for inherent values, which defined their base power so to speak. Considering that this was no longer a game however, IV's no longer played much of a role as they did in the game I think, as training was much more efficient in this world than simply increasing numbers and move pool.

Of course they still matter, in the form of genetics, but it could not play overtly much of a role considering that not all moves were physical in nature, let alone the fact that my partner was a literal Ghost Pokémon, which means he doesn't even have genetics to begin with. Weird, I know.

Which then brings me to the next topic. EV's. They practically translated into the fruits of your training, and thusly were much more important to me right now. After all, it was pretty much impossible to discern the genetic value of a Pokémon you just met, but it was not impossible to discern whether it was a hard-working training maniac or not.

Now, concerning the training I would soon put my buddy through, I had thought about a couple of ways to go about doing that.

Even though I knew the Gastly line possessed physical moves, and was able to interact with the physical world just fine, their greatest potential had always been in both their speed and sheer power when it comes to their special attacks.

Which means that I would be focusing most of my attention on enhancing my Pokémon's speed and energy-based attacks, such as shadow ball and the like.

Unfortunately though, I knew next to nothing about how to train my Pokémon in the later area, which meant I would have to look that up rather sooner than later. Luckily my feet had carried me far by now and I could already see Veridian City on the horizon. I should be arriving in the city in about an hour if my assumption was correct, And once I do I would begin my research into battle training and think about the members of my future team, meaning I would also have to research that. The evening promised to be eventful. That much was for sure. And I couldn't wait to reach the city.
