Leo, happy with the money he earned, skipped all the way out of the auction and continued to walk.
Darion smiled gently at the sight while following Leo from behind. It reminded him of his younger days when he wasn't as carefree as Leo was right now. He couldn't even see a single coin, so thinking about it, made him grin.
"Uncle, how much food can be bought with this money?" Leo asked.
He knew the answer very well, but due to the excitement of his first earning, he couldn't prevent himself from asking.
'I should remain calm always. Despite knowing this, I couldn't prevent myself from asking.'
"Hm, I mentioned earlier too and will repeat myself again, this much money can easily buy meals for the next 3 months if all the kids back in the orphanage are counted.", Darion replied.
Leo grinned from ear to ear. At least they won't starve until he finds a way to earn more coins. He had realized this much earlier.
"By the way, uncle, did you know the owner from earlier?"
Darion frowns. The owner?
Leo was no longer being playful or acting dumb, He controlled himself and asked this question as he had indeed seen Darion behave weirdly when the owner was present.
"Yes. I saw you looking at him intently just then.", Leo commented.
"…"
Not having any choice and being too lazy, Darion replied, "Ah, he's an old acquaintance of mine."
"Is that so?"
"He was quite generous. He went as far as giving a spatial ring to me…"
Leo didn't know the exact cost of the spatial ring he was handed, but knew for sure that it would be quite expensive!
'Hmm, though, why would he give me such an expensive item? It's not as if I am from a rich background to return his favor…', Leo wondered.
Darion snickered.
"He? Generous? Kid, you are fooled by people too easily. How could you say that he was generous?"
Leo frowned.
He knew that no one would do anything out of generosity, but hoped for the person to be someone like that.
It looked like his hopes were for naught as his suspicion was indeed true after Darion mentioned that.
However, Leo didn't know the exact reason for his doing. Considering the fact that Darion knew him, he asked, "Then why would he do that? Why would he hand out money to someone whom he has met for the first time? Isn't it absurd?"
"I too am curious why he did that, kid. Normally, he is a stingy person.", Darion said out loud.
'Other than the fact that he has some weird intuition to find talent, he is indeed stingy.', and, Darion said to himself.
Leo refrained from asking anything else as it seemed like Darion wasn't on good terms with him. Even if he was, it would have been superficial since no one would want to befriend someone who only thinks about money.
'Darion is a Beast King, so his judgment might not be wrong…'
'His words hold some weight, I think I should refrain from prying anymore…', Leo decided.
They kept walking and soon enough arrived at the Besoret Forest, the forest between Beastatown and Berela.
It was expected to be a quiet journey. It was already evening so there wasn't much to think about, but it was mostly during the night times that beasts roam around.
As they reached the forest, Leo heard a small squeak. The squeak was so soft, that if not for the quiet atmosphere, Leo would not have been able to catch it.
"What was that?" Leo asked Darion.
"What was what?" Darion replied, pretending to not have heard the squeak. Obviously, with his high ranking, he heard the soft squeak even before Leo did. However, he didn't bother being curious.
Leo grew curious and decided to search for the source of the soft squeak. He followed the squeaking, carefully stepping on the dead branches and twigs on the ground so that he wouldn't scare it away.
"Kid, we need to get back before dark. Remember, a forest can be a nightmare." Darion called out to him.
Darion probably knew what the continuous squeak was from. He didn't want Leo to go hunt after any and all beasts that could be found, hence he tried to talk about leaving soon.
"Just a minute, uncle."
Leo continued to follow the squeaking sound. Eventually, when he reached a big tree, he spotted a nest with something in it.
Leo carefully walked towards the nest. The nest was no ordinary nest. It looked like some beast was residing in the nest.
He wouldn't just go anywhere to feed his hungry curiosity only to endanger himself.
He was not that immature. He knew that his safety preceded his curiosity.
Hence, before even thinking about approaching the big tree, he used his skill Dragon Eyes to take a note of the surroundings and what probably was in the nest.
His eyes turned yellow to golden just as usual.
Darion, who stood a bit far away from him, felt this weird presence of strong mental force. He immediately turned his head towards Leo after feeling the weird sensation.
'This…'
'Is he using his first skill?', he questioned himself.
It would make sense that the energy was being emerged from his first skill. Darion didn't know Leo personally and had no idea about other mystic skills that he possed. So this was the only conclusion that he could draw himself into.
Regardless, Leo found out that the nest was empty with the exception of just one bird which looked like a parrot.
It had red wings while all the remaining feathers on its body were green.
"A parrot?", he questioned after climbing the tree and looking at the poor bird which was hurt badly.
The wings seemed almost ripped off. The markings of being attacked by a talon were prominent.
Even the nest was stained with a little amount of blood.
