-Your POV-
She was lying in her bed, staring at the ceiling. Last night flew through her head, it played out over and over again.
Draco Malfoy had kissed her. And she had let him.
It didn't last very long, maybe a minute or two, but it was pure and innocent perfection.
Once he pulled back, Draco's expression was impossible to read and Y/N worried that he might have regretted it. And in a way she was right.
"I think this was too soon," he had mumbled and then took a step back, letting go of her shoulders.
Y/N didn't know what to say except for: "Okay."
"Don't tell anyone."
"Okay."
"Let's...rewind."
"Okay."
"I'm not saying 'forget this ever happened' but-"
"It's fine, I understand."
She hid her disappointment with a reassuring smile and Draco nodded.
"I think... ," he started, "I think we need to be friends first."
"Alright. Let's work on that then."
After that, they left the Astronomy tower and went back to the common room.
Y/N would have lied if she said that it didn't hurt. In a way he had rejected her. But she felt like she understood why.
So far Draco had turned out to be very cold and private. Private not in the sense of him never talking about himself because he surely was good at that. But Y/N felt like there was another side of him, a big part that he kept locked away.
Being with someone, even just kissing, was so incredibly intimate. He needed someone he could trust. And a friendship was the right place to start.
And if Y/N was honest, although she would have loved to skip those steps and kiss him again, maybe it was good if they didn't go as far for now. She'd have more time to really figure out who Draco Malfoy was. And how he was connected to her memory loss.
After coming to that conclusion, Y/N was able to start her day.
During breakfast, Helena attacked her with questions as she saw how Draco and her had stayed yesterday. But Y/N had promised to not tell anything so she came up with another quick lie. She told Helena that she had asked the boy to show her some constellations. And that was it.
The rest of the day was filled with Transfiguration and Defense Against the Dark Arts, where she had the pleasure of being taught by Professor Umbridge.
Pleasure here was equal to hell.
Right now all Gryffindor and Slytherin students were sitting quietly, copying passages out of the very child-friendly books they were given.
Umbridge was walking down the rows to make sure everyone was working properly. The smile on her face was incredibly unsettling.
How could such a petite woman be this scary?
While walking, she was humming a little joyous melody over and over again. It started becoming so annoying that once she passed Y/N's desk, the girl just wanted to grab her book and swat Umbridge like a fly.
Y/N didn't know how this subject was being taught at Ilvermorny but no amount of Confundus charms could ever make one forget such an awful professor.
She looked at the clock hanging in the front of the classroom. 15 more minutes. 'Please, no.'
"Alright, for the rest of today's lesson, we will be doing a little quiz to see how much you've retained. Please note down the questions on a seperate piece of paper."
She turned around and walked over to the blackboard to pick up a piece of chalk. At that moment, a small origami bird landed on Y/N's desk. Helena seemed to notice as well and nudged her excitedly.
Y/N looked over to Umbridge who still had turned her back to the students and then quickly unfolded the bird.
The message written in black ink was short.
'Hogsmeade tomorrow. Join us? D'
Y/N felt blood rush into her cheeks. Hogsmeade, the little town where they had gotten off the train. But who was 'us'? Probably him and his friends.
She wanted to turn around to Draco to give him a thumbs up when she noticed Umbridge staring at her.
"Now what to we have here?" she asked in her sugar sweet voice.
Y/N's heart was beating quickly. If the professor read out the message to the entire class, she'd die of embarrassment. Furthermore, she didn't want Harry, Hermione and Ron to know.
Umbridge started tottering over to her but as she came closer, Y/N watched the ink fading out. The words disappeared.
Once the teacher stood next to her, Y/N handed her the empty square piece of paper.
"What is this?" She smiled at Y/N.
"It's just paper, Miss."
"Just paper. I see."
She snatched it out of her hand and then tottered away to her blackboard again. Halfway there, she stopped and turned around. Her eyes were piercing through Y/N yet her voice remained sweet. She was talking very slowly, like she was facing a toddler.
"Classes are for studying, not for writing love notes. Do it again and you will face...consequences." Then Umbridge giggled.
Once she had turned away, Y/N took a deep breath of relief. Harry had gotten detention right at the beginning of the lesson for questioning Umbridge's teaching concept. Y/N really didn't want to join him.
She had dodged a bullet. Yet she was too scared to turn around to Draco in case the professor would notice.
*****
The lesson was finally over and Y/N left the classroom quickly to avoid Umbridge possibly asking any further questions.
Draco appeared next to her. "Well, that was close."
"Right? Does she have eyes in her back or something?"
Y/N chuckled nervously over her own joke. This was their first real interaction since...yesterday. But apparently only she thought that it was awkward.
"She's a psycho, that's for sure. So what's your answer?"
"Answer?" Y/N couldn't follow.
"Hogsmeade."
"Right! Sure, yeah."
Draco smiled without looking at her. "Good."
Once they entered the Great Hall, she felt Draco's hand on her lower back, leading her to where they would be sitting.
"I'm starving," he muttered. Then his hand was gone again.
"Me too, honestly." She sat down opposite of Draco. More students streamed into the hall, Pansy fell down next to him.
"I'm going to torture and kill Umbridge in her sleep. Who is with me? Draco?" She smiled at the boy and leaned over a bit.
It seemed a bit too friendly and Y/N wondered how close they really were. Afterall, they had been friends since day 1. They even went to that Yule Ball together.
Y/N quickly looked away before Pansy could notice and joke about her jealousy.
"Maybe it would be better to get on her good side instead," she heard Draco suggest. "Might bring some benefits."
"Hmm, I like the way you are thinking. Sharp as a snake."
Y/N saw Ron and Harry entering the Great Hall and immediately turned around again.
"What about you, newbie?" Pansy asked.
Y/N shrugged. "I'd rather not associate with her at all. But if I had to choose between killing and befriending her...well, it wouldn't really be a choice, would it?"
"You're such a wuss." The dark haired girl rolled her eyes.
A wuss because she didn't want to be a murderer?
Luckily, that was when the food appeared and took all attention off the topic.
Y/N loaded her plate with beans, potatoes and meatballs as she thought about one question.
If Draco and his friends made some scheme...would she join?
