Capítulo 26: Chase

"If you don’t stop checking that thing, I’m going to throw it out the window," Sergeant Gutierrez threatens.

I put the phone away with an exaggerated sigh and then turn to smile at her, my big dimpled smile that sometimes gets me out of trouble. We’re driving in her car, and she doesn’t take her eyes off the road to scowl at me, so she just scowls at the highway instead, but it looks like she’s fighting off a smile too.

"Can’t you conduct your one-man dating service when you’re off duty?"

I watch the concrete walls flit by on the highway as she pulls into the right lane. "I feel like ‘duty’ is a strong word for this afternoon, Sarge."

Now she’s really grinning. "Well, yeah."
