Long Tian turned to his wife with an incredulous expression on his face.
Astonished, he asked in a low whisper. "You've never been in a relationship before?"
In this time period, it was nothing sort of a miracle for a woman to have never been in a relationship.
Qing Yue blushed and lowered her head. She didn't expect to be placed on the judging panel the moment she took a step out of the hospital.
But feeling her husband's burning gaze, she hummed and hawed before replying in a thin whisper.
"I...didn't feel comfortable getting into a relationship before marriage. After all, no matter how amorous or wondrous they may be, relationships that are not bound in the sacred vows of marriage are nothing more than frivolous affairs. And I don't do love affairs."
Long Tian blinked, then a wide smile stretched across his lips.
She didn't do affairs.
At the thought, his heart softened and he felt a sense of peace and contentment settle over him.
At this moment, no matter how the future turned out, Long Tian felt as if he was where he needed to be and where he was meant to be.
Because love affairs weren't his area of interest as well.
He moved and stood closer to his wife's automatic chair, possessively placing a hand on the back, before lifting his head to face the bold questioner.
"I don't think I'm obliged to answer you. After all, you're neither friend nor family. There's no reason for me to answer the questions of a stranger. But seeing you took the trouble to come all the way here, I'll give you an answer."
The gathered crowd was silently spectating the strangers and Young Master Long's exchange. They had no hope of hearing an answer from him and even tensely waited for the black-armored guards to show up and kick them away like flies.
Because everyone in the LiLong Country knew that Great Commander Long's son hated crowds and hated giving speeches and interviews even more.
So when they heard his words, their eyes widened in astonishment.
Great Commander's son, Long Tian was going to give a speech?
Were they hearing things?
Buzzing with excitement and disbelief, the crowd exchanged fervent glances and hushed whispers before their eyes lit up like lightbulbs. Afraid of the cold man changing his mind, they hurriedly took out their PhotoComs and turned on their RecComs in record time.
They wanted to capture and record this moment.
Because this would be Long Tian's first interview before the public. A personal interview that pertained to his personal life and mismatched marriage.
Long Tian furrowed his brows in displeasure.
The moment he looked at the masked woman, he immediately recognized her identity.
Lu Jin. What was she trying to do?
Turning his gaze to his docile wife, a fierce desire to protect swelled in his heart.
He didn't care about Lu Jin and didn't want to know what farce she was up to. But if she wanted to degrade and demean his wife, then she'd have to confront him.
"The entire LiLong Country knows about the deep friendship between the Great Commander and business tycoon Li Chen. They should also know that Qing Yue was engaged to me from the day she was born. In this time and age, I know that arranged marriages have become outdated. But the Longs and Lis relationship isn't just the mere exchange of words. It's a vow sealed by trust and faith. Our marriage is to honor the trust and faith between the two families."
"What!? Long Tian and Li Qing Yue were engaged since they were babies?"
"No way! How come the public never heard of such an agreement before. They must've come up with this scheme to cover Li Qing Yue's shortcomings and her undue advantage in this marriage."
"But why would Great Commander Long need to scheme to marry his son to a cripple?"
"That's true. And if you think about it, before Li Qing Yue got in an accident, the entire LiLong Country was certain she'd marry into the Long Family. With Long Hongwu and Li Chen's relationship, the chance of this matter being true is very high."
The crowd went in an uproar. The matter of Long Tian and Li Qing Yue's engagement was never announced to the public. The moment they heard such explosive news from Long Tian's mouth, various comments and speculations came out.
Qing Yue's ears rang from the loud chatter. This was why she didn't like crowded places. Her ears were too sensitive and the slightest noise gave her a headache.
She stretched her hand and pulled on her husband's suit coat. "Brother Tian, can you make it brief. My head is hurting."
Seeing her pale expression, Long Tian felt alarmed.
"Forget about the interview. We'll leave right now. You haven't fully recovered yet and need lots of rest."
He signaled to the guards standing to the side with his eyes, and in a matter of seconds, Qing Yue and Long Tian were in a circle of black-armored guards.
"Step aside, Young Master Long and Young Madam Long are passing through."
"Step aside, Young Master and Young Madam are passing through."
The buzzing crowd was caught off guard by the sudden change.
"What's going on? Wasn't Young Master Long going to give a speech? Why is he suddenly leaving?"
"That's right. He hasn't completed his speech yet, so why is he leaving?"
"I think Li Qing Yue isn't feeling well. They want to get her back to the Long Mansion for rest. Da**! This is why I'm against this marriage. Such a young, healthy man, why is he wasting his life by marrying a sick woman? He should divorce this Li Qing Yue right away!"
"I agree! Rather than marry such a sickly and ugly woman, I'd much rather he married a beautiful and middle-aged woman. Even if she's old, she won't be an ugly cripple."

At this moment, Lu Jin stepped out from the pushing crowd and blocked the two's path.
"Young Master Long, it's rude to leave without finishing your speech. Your wife just got released. Surely, her illness isn't so grave that you can't even finish your words. Haha, if it is, I truly pity you." Her disdainful gaze fell on the silent Qing Yue and turned more scornful when she only saw her eyes and nose.
Such an ugly mummy, I wish her illness would aggravate so bad that she'd drop dead at this moment.
Long Tian pulled Qing Yue's wheelchair back and stood in front of her. Under the scornful and condescending gazes of the disgusting humans, he was afraid his wife would feel self-conscious.
"I thought I made myself clear earlier. I'm not obligated to answer the questions of a stranger. If you won't step out of the way, then I'm afraid I'll have to make you." He looked at the head guard, who immediately stepped up and pulled on Lu Jin's arm.
"Miss, if you don't clear the path in 3 seconds, I'll pick you up and throw you to the side." Cold and emotionless, the head guard's words made Lu Jin inadvertently shiver in fear.
"You dare!?" Even though she felt scared of the guard's cold gaze, Lu Jin was bent on delaying Long Tian.
Not because she really wanted to know the reason he married the ugly cripple. She could care less about the ugly wench!
She wanted to keep him back and find a chance to confess her feelings. She had full confidence that once Long Tian learned of her feelings for him, he'd divorce the ugly cripple and go back to her.
After all, she was his girlfriend of two years. The one and only woman he'd ever been in a relationship with and, in the end, the one he wanted to marry.
Therefore, she shrugged off the guard's hold and glowered at him and turned to Long Tian.
"Long Tian..."
But before she could say anymore, Long Tian turned his back on her and faced the crowd.
"The relationship between me and my wife is our business. I don't care about what sort of woman is more deserving of me, or who I should marry in your eyes. For better or worse, my wife is Li Qing Yue and she will remain my wife until the end of time. If I find any disparaging or degrading articles and news about her, then don't blame me for being ruthless!"
His cold eyes swept over the crowd and stopped on Lu Jin.
This was also a warning for her.
And the instant Lu Jin realized this, her eyes widened in disbelief.
Then without another word, he turned and led his wife's chair towards the awaiting hovership.
