Chapter 42: Hmm, Why?
.....
Carmine Falcone never trusted Ian or the Rose family. He considered them to be a temporary addition, a family to get rid of once an opportunity arises.
Ian considered his addition to the crime lords temporarily, and he never once had he thought of trusting any one of them, especially someone as smart and wise as Carmine.
Ian also didn't trust Batman, not in the least. It seemed that the latter reciprocate that feeling because, despite the bat conducting a few deals with him, mostly regarding information, he still has yet to accept to collaborate with him.
Ian just had thing hunch that Batman was planning something against him, to somehow keep him under his control. He could sense the tension of the city as if something big is about to happen... All due to him.
He found all of this to be fun, quite enjoyable. His life always had a sense of adventure even in his previous world, an adventurous soul he was, and he still is.
"Done, let's go." A man attired with a purple suit and a clown mask stated, pulling Ian out of his contemplation. The latter also had similar clothes.
The man already established a line between the building they were on and their destination, so they took the grappling line, attached themselves to it, and glid their way to the other building.
The man did most of the work, basically disabling the alarms in some ways Ian doesn't understand, that's just not his specialty.
The man let out a long breath, "Done,"
"Nicely done J, I guess. The Rose family really needed talents like you." Ian complimented after observing all the seemingly magical methods he used, at least to him it seemed that way.
The man scratched his head, "I am not really that talented. I just liked to mess with things a lot which is why I was thrown out of the military."
"Perhaps I should learn how to do it myself," Ian muttered to himself before bringing a portable radio close to his mouth and speaking, "Done."
The man next to him hesitated for a bit, but still spoke his concern, "Are you sure about this? I mean, we're only two people, so how can we take them on?"
Ian glanced at him and shook his head, "Just follow my lead." Afterward, they made their way downstairs, finding themselves in a bank. They didn't dwell there for long and directly headed to the vault.
Everyone within the bank was laying down, all due to the clown masked robbers, five robbers in total including Ian and his underling. The latter two only got to meet one already waiting for them besides the vault.
He seemed strangely tense, and perhaps confused, "Hi, what's going on?"
Ian eyed him and asked, "What?"
"N-nothing."
"Ok, get to work." Ian then instructed his underling who he calls J. The latter did what he does best and started trying to open the vault. He had a duffel bag with him with all kinds of tools, allowing him to perform his magic.
The masked clown seemed to be hesitating while glancing at the two of Ian and J from time to time, until something attracted his attention, the sound of gunshots.
That also attracted Ian's attention, but for another reason, 'I guess might as well do it now.' He then shoot the man, two bullets right to the head, the silencer minimized the gunshots' sound to the point where only J heard them.
"Why?"
"Don't worry about it, just continue what you were doing." Ian casually said, not at all caring about J's fearful look, but after the latter calmed down, he seemingly understood something and continued what he was doing.
The vault soon opened, giving a view of mountains of cash, just cash, and cash, "Boss... Could it be..."
"Yeah, this is the crime lords' stash, their private vault basically." Ian walked up to one of the cash tables and picked up a few stacks, seemingly in enjoyment of the moment.
J gulped looking at all the cash, something he never thought he'd find. He glanced at Ian and started doing the same as him.
"Alright, let's fill the bags," Ian stated and got to work. There was so much money in the vault to the point they were able to fill six duffel bags with cash.
They were joined by another of their accomplice amidst their work. His walk was a bit strange as if he was drunk. His hair has a tinge of green to it, and he had the same clown mask on.
He walked past the dead body of his fellow accomplice, and he kicked it two times to see if he was actually dead, but taking a closer look allowed him to see the two holes in the body's head.
He walked into the vault, seeing the two filling the bags. He noticed one look at him then look at the other person before continuing in doing what he does.
The clown understood something from his behavior and instantly knew who was the leader, one is tense while the other didn't react to his entry.
That's strange considering he only expected one to be alive. He orchestrated the entire heist so only he could live in the end, leaving all the money for himself.
The two were too defenseless for his liking, so he joined them and filled the rest of the bags until they emptied the entire vault.
"Very good harvest, like, the shamelessness of the criminals keeping all of this to themselves, they really couldn't see it in their heart to be a bit charitable to us the poor. This is their fault." Ian remarked in amusement while caressing one of the bags. He then added, "Anyway, let's head out."
The three walked towards the exit as Ian remarked to the silent clown next to him, "Will the car be able to hold all of these?"
The clown just eyed Ian for a second, realizing that Ian also ignored the clown body lying not far from them, which means only the three of them were left.
The clown remained silent for a bit before sending a message through his phone. The two of Ian and the clown seemed in a strange understanding as if both know of what the other thinks or plans.
Soon, a bus drove right through the exit, stopping right before them, and from it appeared their last unknown accomplice, so it appears the team had more than five members after all.
The sixth member was just a secret only the clown knew of, "Shit, all of those are filled with cas..." He didn't get to speak anymore as a bullet found itself nailed in his head.
The bullet's source was none other than the clown, surprising J who was about to aim at him, however, Ian stopped him, "It's fine, let's move."
They got on the bus and drove off before the police arrive. J was the one driving while the clown just stared at Ian, but he has yet to even speak a word.
They drove to a destination of Ian's choosing, an abandoned warehouse not far from there. A few masked people were already waiting there, they stood before Ian as he exited the bus with J.
"Take exactly three, leave the rest to him." Ian ordered before nodding at the clown, "Have fun, and may we meet again." The latter also nodded at him and remained seated as three of the bags were transported to another vehicle which set off soon after, leaving him there alone.
"Haha... Hahaha... Hahahaha... Haha." He remained seated there for a while, seemingly frozen in place before a burst of atrociously bizarre laughter started coming out of his mouth, "That was fun... Such a nice new toy, Haha." He then drove the bus away, only God knows where.
At the same time, far away, a few masked people were hidden next to an alleyway. Their mask was nothing fancy, just simple black masks.
Not far from them was the entry to a nightclub, and that seemed to be their target as they eyed the place, "Remember, just Anton Petrov and his bodyguards if they're in the way." One of them spoke, and his voice sound like that of Mike.
It wasn't long before their target left the club, and they put him down in a relatively clean way. They escaped with hast, but without leaving their traces behind.
At the same time at another end of the city, specifically the far north of Gotham in an isolated Island, within the walls of Arkham Asylum for the criminally insane.
'Holy crap it's creepy in here, Ian is fucking insane.' Barney somehow found himself within the facility...
