Shaking, Maria collapsed on her back and heard  footsteps of those men closing to her direction. She realized that she shouldn't be giving up just yet. The water was just a hand reach away. She rolled on her stomach again and started crawling to the water despite the torment on her leg.

However, she hadn't gone that far when there was another clear shot right in front of her nose. She looked at the ground with a hole made by a smoking bullet right there. She looked around and estimated the possible origin of it. When she looked to the upper right, she saw a glint of a sniper in there.

That moment, she realized that she can no longer escape.  Maria looked behind her when the men pursuing her finally reached her location.
