"Are you going to hit me back?" Pepper asked him when he stood up after she slapped him twice.

"No" he murmured and looked at her "I don't hit women. I am not going to start with the one I…" his voice trailed off.

For a second there, Pepper thought he was going to say the one he loves but he didn't. 

"The one you what? The one you played a con on? The one that was stupid enough to believe all your lies? Or maybe the one raising your daughter because you can't bother to show up anymore? Which one are you going to say?" Pepper tried not to yell for the sake of the child in the next room but her whole body spoke of the frustration that filled her up.

"Answer me?!" She finally allowed herself to yell.

"The woman I love, okay?! I am not going to hit the woman I love!" 

Pepper shoved him with all her strength and Asher wasn't expecting it. He staggered before he found his footing.
