Capítulo 18: Innocent kid
"I will buy you the book you wanted to have and we will even have the muffins that you liked!'' Jenny blinked when she heard him and her face turned red with embarrassment!
"That is not needed, Alec. i brought my own lunch.`` She adjusted the strands of her hair and tucked them behind her ears as she lowered her head and concentrated on the bag in her laps.
Didn't boyfriends buy lunch for their girlfriends and the things she liked! As the thought crossed her mind, she felt her heartbeat getting faster! Her grip on the bag tightened and she felt a strange sensation on her body!
"Oh!" oblivious to her thoughts, he felt dejected and thought why would he need that money if she did not need it. With that thought, he took out the money to throw it away from the window.
When she did not get any further reply from him, she raised her head only to see him throwing the money from the window and her eyes widened. She moved and instinctively held his hands.
In a shocked voice, she asked him, "what are you doing?"
He blinked as he looked at their entwined hands. She was holding his hands tightly in her hands.
The cold feeling that he had felt a while ago dissipated and his heart felt warm.
Like an obedient child, he turned to look at her and replied in a confused voice,
"Didn't you say that you do not need lunch or anything from me!?"
"......" did he mean that he had brought money only for her and he did not need it anymore since she did not want it.
Her whole body turned rigid when she heard him. Though the words were simple, it was the sweetest thing one could say or do for a girl. Are people selfish and only think about themselves! Yet he only cared about her!
She did not know why she felt like she should cry when she heard him, but she closed her eyes and controlled herself. She did not want to look like a crybaby in front of him.
"That.. I only said that I brought my own lunch. But we can still go and buy the desserts and those books too!" though she tried her best to sound neutral, her face still flushed red when she said so.
Her voice was a bit quivering yet he felt relieved when he heard her as he thought that she was angry due to his offer.
He continued to stare at the face of the girl that she blushed again! She bowed her head and looked back at her bag only but she could feel the intensity of his eyes and heat continued to rise to her face.
Her heart was beating so fast that she was afraid it would leapt out of the ribcage yet the boy continued to stare at her!
In the end, she couldn't bear it anymore and asked Alec in a low voice,
"Why are you staring at me like this?" her voice was less than the sound made by mosquitoes.
Anyone else would not have been able to hear her, but Alec heard it clearly and replied with a straight voice,
"Your face is turning redder every minute. So, I am keeping an eye on your temperature to know if you need a doctor!!"
"........" his expressions and voice were so earnest that she did not know how to reply.
Had he always been this naive and innocent? She could not believe that a boy like him could be called a monster or what not just because he was a bit different!
She felt like he was too vulnerable and needed to be protected with the world. She even forgot that she was just a frail girl when she decided to keep his innocence protected by this cruel world.
"Alec! I am not sick! So, stop staring at me! It is rude to stare at someone for so long.
Oh my! You need to be taught so much!" his face turned downcasted when he heard her. He did not know how to behave with others, since he was mostly surrounded by monsters only. Never had he spent much time with humans except a few minutes with his mother who runs away after looking into his eyes for same time.
But Jenny was different!
Even when she stayed with him for so long, he could not smell fear or disdain from her.
Even when she scold it was full of adoration and a warm voice.
"For starters, you should not throw money and stare at others. And if you have any doubts, you can ask me!
Promise me that you will come to me whenever needed!" She looked at him with stern eyes and he blinked. His expressions were just like a small kid and a smile bloomed on her face.
She was waiting for him to nod his head when he raised his hands in front of her and took out his pinky!
She blinked and it took her a second to understand what he was doing!
She chuckled and shook her head as she patted his head as if he was a small puppy and took her pinky finger out too.
"Pinky promises that I will come to you whenever needed!" with that he hugged her!
Jenny stiffened as she was not expecting him to touch her that way. But when she felt his warm embrace, her body started to relax and she hugged him back with a genuine smile on her face.
They both did not notice the weird gazes they were receiving from the other students, especially from the group of Jack who had lost their friend yesterday because of these two.
They gritted their teeth as they looked at their lovey dovey scene,
"Look at both of them! How they are displaying their affection as a nerd and a monster!
They both needed to be taught a lesson to remind them of their place!"
