Capítulo 9: Chapter 9 The Spirit

A few minutes later a group of Basts Familia members came in, they removed my wrist cuffs and Ma's gag, though they kept two guards inside the room to watch her and Da just in case they tried anything.

Ma immediately moved to my wrists, where almost a month of tugging on the chains caused many deep cuts. She inspected for any signs of infection and asked me to rotate my wrists around to make sure I had full movement.

"They left the wounds open too long, even if we get a potion for you there will be some scarring, but they haven't caused any permanent damage to your tendons or ligaments as far as I can tell," she murmured.

"How about you?" I asked.

Neither me nor Da had been able to speak to Ma for the entire trip, they always kept her and the two other magic users separate from the main people and were watched day and night.

Ma smiled softly and showed us her wrists. There was some bruising, but it hadn't broken the skin. "I have a Status, we're made of sterner stuff than normal people."

I had seen Da's he didn't even have bruises, just a little tan line from the desert sun.

"You still got taken out by a single swipe of that club."

Da made a shushing motion with his hand but it was too late.

Ma pinched and twisted my ear a deep frown on her face.

"Don't be a brat."

She let go and her gaze became serious.

"Kova, it was very impressive how you were able to get your way back there, but how did you do it?" Ma asked quietly.

I knew saying something like with my mouth was probably the wrong answer. I was six years old and usually kids my age are not able to verbally spar with adults let alone Gods.

"Well, after we were captured the guy that clocked us both in the head continued to act weird, shooting us glances and keeping us close. So me and Da assumed he had figured out about me, and I remembered what you two said about Deities wanting to own something interesting like me. That's why I was almost sure that they would be sending at least me to their Goddess."

"But there was no way I wanted to be put on a display case or have a Falna forcibly put on me, so I decided to think up a way to discourage her. I'm just happy that they kept you two with me as well."

"Though if they did sell you guys I was hoping that Tesh could pretty much hold the entire Familia hostage while they retrieved you from whoever you got sold to."

Silence permeated the room as my parents and the two guards just stared at me.

"Son, yer a bit ruthless ya know?" Da said quietly.

"Did we raise a sociopath…" Ma asked herself.

Even the two guards looked at me with a bit of apprehension. After all I just said I would use the Spirit to hold them hostage.

Two days had passed since my conversation with the Goddess Bast. We hadn't been allowed outside our rooms, but we were fed and given the chance to shower and eat good food. I wonder if this is how political prisoners feel.

The first night we talked quietly about what we would do next, and we all agreed it was too dangerous to go back home. I pushed for us to go to Orario, but my parents were still hesitant about the city.

After annoying the guards enough they gave us some books to read.

I had made sure to continuously chant Teshgars name into the seed.

Bast hadn't been in to see us at all which didn't bother me. I really hated the fact that she saw me as a prize or rare toy.

I was sitting at the desk reading a book about native monsters to the area while Ma and Pa cuddled on the bed. Their flirting after being separated was heartwarming for the first hour, then it just annoyed me and the guards. They had actually threatened to put the gag back in Ma's mouth if they couldn't keep quiet, and I silently cheered them on.

Without knocking the captain of the Familia came in with a grave look on her face.

"You three have been summoned by Lady Bast."

Getting up I closed the book, but decided to take it with me, it was a good read after all. We all walked to where the audience chamber was.

On her throne Bast looked at the intruder with rage in her eyes. In the center of the room was Teshgar, a look of childish wonder on his face as he looked at the statues around the room. It would have been an ethereal sight, if not for the heads attached to bodies he held in each bloody hand. The people seemed to still be alive, but they had several broken bones and were whimpering slightly.

"Wow, every time I see civilization it surprises me! Who would have thought that people had so much time and energy to spare that they would make copies of cats out of stone!" Teshgar said with glee.

It didn't seem that he had aged a day since the last time I saw him. He still had that metallic silver hair and bright green eyes. His clothing was a loose brown shirt and a pair of shorts with no shoes on.

When he noticed us his face brightened even more, and his smile split open a bit too wide for comfort.

"Relias, Deion, and is that little Kova I see?!" Teshgar said excitedly.

He bounded over to them, dragging the limp people behind him. The Spirit ignored the captain that grit her teeth watching her Familia members be pulled around like toys.

"You've grown up so much! I was really worried you'd be horribly deformed or something by now," he said to me, breathing out a sigh of relief.

"Wat," I said blankly. "Was that a worry, Ma and Pa never mentioned that."

I looked to my parents, but they both averted their gazes.

"Nothing happened so we never really had a reason to mention it," Ma said quietly.

Wow thats a bit fucked, but they're not wrong I guess.

Shaking that out of my head I looked to the Spirit.

"Sooo…. What cha got there?" I asked, looking at the two beaten people in Teshgars hands.

"Well, I arrived after following the seed's signal, but these two bozos decided to get in my way. So I decided to use them as hostages."

"Yes, he did… You won the wager boy, the Spirit came to take you away like a hero does a helpless princess," Bast said without humor.

"Can you take these cuffs off my parents then? I promise that they won't try to attack any of your Familia members," I asked.

Bast just nodded and both of my parents had their wrists unbound by the guards. I noticed that she kept her eyes on me, hunger still on her face.

"Now let my followers go and leave," Bast said.

"Wait, Uncle Teshgar, I have a question."

The Spirit dropped the two people, their heads landing on the stone with a clonk.

"Yes Kova?"

"Is it alright with you if we rob them before we go?"

Everyone stared at me.

"You say that in front of me?" Bast growled.

"I mean, took us from our home and put chains on us. Who knows what happened to our house, it might have even burned down from the forest fire you guys made. Even then, by now rumors about me being half-dwarf half-elf are sure to be circulating through your Familia, I have no doubt it will spread."

"I think you should compensate us for what we've been through and what we will have to do from now on," I said, making puppy dog eyes around the room.

"Then why did you say rob…" the captain asked.

"It's just my accent, I'll say it a bit slower. Hey, miss beautiful Goddess, can you please supply us with the means to take care of ourselves in this cruel monster filled world."

Despite my obvious swindling, the goddess relaxed slightly. Was this the power of being a cute kid?

There was also the big bad Spirit behind me.

"Fine," Bast said.

That's how we got our ride out of the Great Sand Sea, a few pack horses with some money and a few precious items.
