"Now, here's how it's going to happen," started the alpha. "You are going to the mating ceremony tomorrow, or your brother will be slowly tortured to death in Valley Bay. If you make a fool out of MY pack, your brother will die. If you come back mateless or you reject your mate, your brother dies. If you try to flee, your brother will die. In fact, I may be so inclined to do it personally, and I think your family knows my cruelty first hand," he said, referencing my mother. "Trust me, I will know if you do any of these things. I'll be keeping tabs on you. So, what's your answer, Hannah?" he asked cruelly, frightening not only me, but my father as well.
I looked down, tears threatening to break over the damn and run down my cheeks. I bit my lip to stop me from crying. I look at my father with a pleading look. He just stares at the ground and refuses to meet my and my brother's stare. I looked at my brother next, and he had blood running down his face from a large gash about an inch above his head. Finally, I looked at Kamrin. He looked pathetic. I looked at his right fist, and my worst fears had come true: he had been the one to strike my brother. He had Zachariah's blood on his first.
I sigh weakly. "I will go to the mating ceremony, mate, and make our pack proud. Alpha, I will do as you say," I mumble while bowing my head. The pressure of the room seems to drop almost immediately with each word.
The alpha lets out a loud stomach-based laugh which makes me cringe. He took a few steps over towards me, and towered over my 5'3 frame with his 6'5 one. As he loomed over me, he stared at my bowed head. "I'm glad to hear that, my dear. You disappoint me and blood will be spilt. You are one of the strongest she-wolves. Act like it. One more thing, you are not to leave my son's side unless you are in your room, with Luka, or another alpha. Am I clear?" he commanded me.
"Yes, Alpha!" I stated obediently, not desiring to cause my brother any more trouble. If they did not use my brother over me, I would have ripped someone's head off. I may be small, but my wolf is not.
The alpha smiled at my response and dug his hands into my shoulder. "Now, repeat that back to me, dear," the alpha said. I looked up at him. His black eyes stared darkly into my own.
I was seething at this point. "No, I know what it is I am to do'' I shouted back. At that response, the alpha snapped his fingers, and the delta took a hold of my brother while Kamrin started violently striking my brother over and over. My brother started to go to his knees, but the delta lifted him up again and more punches came his way. I screamed.
"I am to go to the mating ceremony, behave, mate, make our pack proud, stay close to your son, and not disappoint you," I spat out quickly in a screech. With that, the alpha snapped his fingers again and the beating stopped, but Zachariah looked really bad. His lip was now split and blood ran from the now enlarged wound on the side of his head. "I'm so sorry, Zachariah," I cried out.
"Good girl. Now, that wasn't that hard was it?" he mocked as he patted me on the head. He leaned down to my ear. "I'll let you say your goodbyes to your brother. He'll be in a holding cell while you're at the mating ceremony. Disappoint me and I'll move him to Valley Bay," he said quietly enough so that I only heard him.
I ran to Zachariah. I repeated that I was sorry so many times I can not remember. I hugged him, and he rested his head on my shoulder. He bent down. "If you are chosen by Luka, don't worry about me. Run. Run and don't look back. I love you Hannah. Never forget that," he whispered. The alpha motioned to the door, where my brother was quickly pulled from me and being dragged. The thought hit me like a pound of bricks: I probably would never see my brother again.
With that thought, I brushed past my father and went to my room. I broke down in tears, knowing that this was no longer my home. You know how movies make crying look elegant? Mine was not. I had snot and mascara running down my face, but I started to pack anyway. There was a schedule placed on my desk for the mating ceremony. Apparently, I am going to be gone for a week, seven days and 6 nights. The first day is a tour, then it's mostly diners and dances. Knowing I only had one task, to mate with an alpha, or my brother would die, I packed seven dresses and accessories, gym wear, nine casual outfits, and makeup. With that, I went to bed, unable to remain awake any longer.
