Capítulo 504: Chapter 504: The big crazy eye problem

There was a definite end-of-holiday gloom in the air when Ivan awoke the next morning.

The heavy rain was still splashing against the window as he dressed in jeans and a sweatshirt; they donned their school robes on the Express to Hogwarts.

Ivan, Harry, Ron, Fred and George had just reached the second floor when Mrs. Weasley appeared at the foot of the stairs, looking urgent.

"Arthur!" she called up the stairs. "Arthur! Urgent message from the Ministry."

Mr. Weasley pushed his robes past him and hurried off.

When Ivan and the others entered the kitchen, they saw Mrs. Weasley anxiously rummaging through the drawers. "I've got a feather in here somewhere!" and Mr. Weasley leaning over the fire, talking.

In front of him, Amos Diggory's head stood in the middle of the flames like a big bearded egg.

He was talking very fast, completely unperturbed by the sparks surrounding him and the flames licking at his ears. "The Muggle neighbors heard banging and screaming, so they went and called what they call...please. Arthur, you have to go over there..."

"Here!" said Mrs. Weasley breathlessly shoved a piece of parchment, a bottle of ink and a crumpled quill into Mr. Weasley's hands.

"It's a real stroke of luck that you heard!" said Mr. Diggory's head. "I had to come to the office early to send in a couple of owls, and it seemed to me that the Misuse of Magic was set in motion...if Rita Skeeter gets hold of this, Arthur..."

"What does crazy eye say happened?" Mr. Weasley asked, unscrewing the ink bottle, loading his quill and preparing to take notes.

Hearing them mention Moody, Ivan, who was stuffing bread in his mouth, heeded their words.

He probably knew what was going on, Voldemort and the vampires acted, and attacked Moody last night.

He didn't know if there was a problem with Crouch, but even if Bartemius Crouch Jr. wasn't rescued, Voldemort probably would have done the same after the attack on the stadium failed, and let Crouch Jr. pose as Moody, the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, to carry out a new plan to get Harry out of school.

With the help of the powerful vampires, he would take action anyway, which was the key to his resurrection.

In the flames, Mr. Diggory rolled his eyes. "He says he heard an intruder in his yard. He says he was crawling toward the house, but was ambushed by his garbage men. "

"What did the intruders do?" asked Mr. Weasley, scribbling frantically.

"They made a hell of a noise and shot garbage everywhere, as far as I can tell," said Mr. Diggory.

"And what about the intruder?" Mr. Weasley grumbled.

"Arthur, you know Mad-Eye," Mr. Diggory's head snapped up. "He's been trying to help us investigate vampires lately, causing trouble everywhere. Think about it, did someone break into his garden at night? Chances are there's a very scared cat wandering around somewhere, covered in potato peels. But if the Misuse of Magic group gets their hands on Crazy Eye, he's already had it...think of his record...we need to get him off on a minor charge, something in your department..... what's the value of exploding garbage cans?"

"It might be a precaution," said Mr. Weasley, still typing very fast, his brow furrowed.... "Mad-Eye didn't use his wand? he didn't attack anyone?"

"I bet he got out of bed and started cursing everything he could reach out the window...but they'll have to prove it, no victims..." Said Mr. Diggory.

"Alright, I'm off," said Mr. Weasley, and stuffed the parchment with his notes in his pocket and ran out of the kitchen again.

Mr. Diggory's head looked at Mrs. Weasley.

"I'm sorry, Molly!" he said, more calmly. "I've disturbed you so early, but Arthur is the only one who can get Mad-Eye out, and Mad-Eye must start his new job today. Why he had to choose last night...."

"Never mind, Amos," said Mrs. Weasley. "Are you sure you don't want some toast or something before you go?"

"Go ahead, then," said Mr. Diggory.

Mrs. Weasley took a piece of buttered toast from a pile on the kitchen table, put it in the fire tongs, and transferred it to Mr. Diggory's mouth.

"Thank you." He said quietly, and then, with a little pop, disappeared.

Immediately after, Mr. Weasley returned to the kitchen with a briefcase, clothes on, and said goodbye to everyone.

"I'd better hurry...have a good year, boys. " said Mr. Weasley to Ivan, Harry, Ron and the twins, draping a cloak over his shoulders and preparing to Vanish.

"Arthur, wait a moment. You need to comb your hair and change your clothes before you go," said Mrs. Weasley.

"Oh!" Mr. Weasley paused and asked Mrs. Weasley to help him sort it out, "Molly, are you going to be all right taking the children to King's Cross?"

"Of course I am," she said. "You take care of Mad-Eye, we'll be fine."

When Mr. Weasley disappeared, Hermione, Ginny, Bill and Charlie walked into the kitchen.

"Did someone say Mad-Eye?" Bill asked. "What's he been doing now?"

"He says someone tried to break into his house last night," Mrs. Weasley said.

"Mad Eye Moody?" said George thoughtfully, spreading jam on his toast. "Isn't that madman...?"

"Your father has a great respect for Mad Eye Moody," said Mrs. Weasley sternly.

"Yeah, well, Dad collects plugs, doesn't he?" said Fred quietly as Mrs. Weasley left the room. "Birds of a feather.... "

"Moody was a great wizard in his time," said Bill.

"He's an old friend of Dumbledore's," said Charlie.

"Dumbledore's not what you'd call normal, is he?" said Fred. "I mean, I know he's a genius and all.... "

"Could someone tell me who Mad-Eye is?" Harry asked since he hadn't seen or heard of Moody before.

"He's retired. He used to work at the Ministry," Charlie said. "I met him once when Dad took me to work with him. He was an Auror...one of the best...a hunter of dark wizards. "

"Yeah!" Bill added. "Half the cells in Azkaban are full thanks to him. He made a lot of enemies, though... the families of the people he caught, mostly... and I hear he's been getting pretty paranoid in his old age. He doesn't trust anyone anymore and sees dark wizards everywhere."

"Yeah, Dad talked to Sirius about that the other day!" Ron agreed. "The same is true for the Head Auror named Rufus Scrimgeour . It's suspicious and seems like bad news, but Sirius holds him in high regard. He says this is the Aurors' forte: trust no one!"

"I don't know!" said Harry. "But I don't want Sirius to turn into that."
