Capítulo 7: The Second Attendant

Rushing upstairs with the girl in my arms I ran straight to Veronica.

"Veronica I need some help here." I shouted, coming right up to her.

Veronica looked at me. Then once she saw the girl cradled in my arms she instantly began examining her. Raising her hand, she conjured a spell circle over the girls body and scan her from head to her toe.

When that was finished Veronica shook her head.

I knew what that meant.

This girl is going to die, and nothing we could do would change it.

"What's the problem?" I asked her.

"She's lost too much blood. Not only from her gut wound but also from her other wounds. So even if we use healing magic, she won't recover fast enough. Not only that, but her vitality is fading fast. Sorry, but it's over." Veronica explained to me.

Except it's not.

There is still one way to save this girl.

I looked Veronica in the eye. "What if you turn her?" I questioned.

As soon as I did Veronica looked at me like I was crazy.

"Are you being serious right now?" Veronica asked me.

"Deadly." I said.

Tonight is the night of the full moon after all.

It's the reason why we waited so long to move on this place. We wanted to take out all the vampires involved in this group in one fell swoop. We never expected to find all the humans dead though.

Well almost all of them. Since I intend to save this girl. She said to wants to live, and I intend to make that happen.

I could see it in her eyes.

And as someone who has experienced death before I know what I'm talking about.

"No." Veronica said. "The risks are too great."

"But the benefits are just as great. If you turn her and she survives then the increase in vitality and her new body will allow her to live." I explained.

"And if she doesn't at best she'll die immediately, and at worst she'll become an undead. Is that what you want?" Veronica questioned me.

"It's not." I said. "Even so I'm willing to take the risk. I am also willing to assume full responsibility if anything goes wrong. I will even kill her myself if she comes an undead." I said serisouly.

That is how strong my resolve is about this matter.

"Kufa I-"

"It....Do it...." The girl in my arms suddenly said. "L...ive....I...w...nt." She wheezed out, before her eyes closed again.

"You heard her. She wants it." I said to Veronica. "So please, do it." I asked her.

Veronica looked at me for a few seconds, then she sighed. "Fine, but remember what you just said."

"Of course I won't forget." I said. If I am going to be a leader then I need to keep my words as much as possible.

Words are bond after all.

Placing the girl down on the ground I stepped back.

As soon as I did Veronica opened her mouth and elongated her fangs. She then sunk them directly in the girl's neck. Once that happened a blood red magic circle appeared a few feet in the air above the two of them.

It then stayed there for several moments until finally it dissipated.

Once it did Veronica removed her fangs from the girls neck.

A few seconds after this took place, the girls eyes shot open and the color of irsises started rapidly switching between blue and red, until finally it settled on red. Her ears also became elongated, and I heard her fangs puncturing their way out of her gums and into her mouth.

"Agh!" The girl started screaming.

I didn't even flinch. I've read up about the vampire turning process and learned this is a normal part of it. When a person is turned their body goes through immense changes all in the span of a few moments.

No one could stay quiet through all that pain.

Or at least no one that I know could.

"Agh!!!" The girl screamed louder and louder. Her body flailing about, until finally she just stopped all at once, going completely silent when she did.

A minute after this happened her eyes shot open and she looked directly into mine. She then put a huge smile on her face and said some words to me.

And although nothing came out of her mouth, I read her lips and knew exactly what she said.

Thank you.

Seeing that I knew I made the right decision.

Once the girl told me "Thank you" she instantly passed out again.

As soon as that happened Veronica started administering first-aid treatment. Since the girl now has a vampires physiology her vitality is through the roof, which means she is going to be just fine.

And that I accomplished my goal.

Bringing a little light to this horror show.

----------------------------------------------------

Sitting in my chair, I looked at the girl I saved.

It's been three days since the lake house mission came to close.

As soon the girl was stable enough for transport Dominque and I teleported with her to the border of our factions territory and then rushed straight to the castle's medical ward.

We didn't know if she had suffered any complications or long lasting effects from everything she had been through before we found her.

But once the doctors gave her a thorough they said she was fine, and that there were no lasting complications.

Physically at least.

Her body is in pristine condition. All of her wounds have closed, and her transition into a turned vampire went off without a hitch.

As for her psychological state however, that's a whole different ball game.

She did suffer through a horribly traumatic experience after all. Some people don't ever recover from shit like that.

But since she's been asleep for the past three days we really don't know anything at all.

In other news, Veronica updated on how the lake house investigation has been going. Turns out the vampires were working with a human land developer who wanted people out of the area so he could buy up property and build a high-end resort.

He made a deal with his female vampire mistress. She and hers get rid of the people and get the chance to gain new soldiers, and he gets to buy up the land and make a profit, some of which he was throwing in the vampire's direction.

Once all this came to light the vampires behind it were exterminated, the land developer found himself bankrupt and arrested on conspiracy charges of kidnapping and murder.

So all's well that ends well on that matter.

I just hope I can say the same for this other one.

Which is why I have been coming here a few hours each day to sit by the girls bedside. I did say she is my responsibility after all.

I stopped looking at the girl for a moment and leaned back in my chair.

"Mhm."

I then instantly looked at the girl again when I heard her groan. Something she has not done since we brought her in.

She's been sleeping peacefully this entire time without making a sound. So I know that groan means something.

My thoughts were proven right a few moments later. Slowly but surely the girl opened her eyes.

She then looked right at me like before.

"Yo." I said to her.

The girl didn't say anything. She simply rubbed her throat, and made a drinking motion.

"No problem." I told her.

I then stood up and ran over to the fridge to get her a cold glass of water, and also grab a bag of blood.

She is a vampire now, so she need to drink blood to live. The sooner she comes to terms with that, the better. Because if she doesn't things are going to get extremely messy real fast.

Closing the fridge I walked back over to the girl and handed the water, which she drank with vigor.

Once she was done she sat the cup down, and then smiled at me. "Thanks for that."

"No problem." I told her. "So, do you remember what happened?" I asked her, sitting back down in my chair.

"Up to a point yes." The girl said.

She then started telling me her story.

Her name is Chess Belle.

She was raised by her single mother, and they lived in a small town in a region close to the lake. It wasn't the best life, but Chess loved it nonetheless.

Then it all came crashing down when the vampires attacked her home, killing her mother right before her eyes.

Afterwards, they dragged her off to their little house of horrors, were they drank her blood and tortured her just to get off.

However Chess didn't break.

She stayed strong, and even managed to escape. She tricked one of the vampires who was a pedo into taking her into his room.

Then she managed to somehow get him into a position where his dick was near the bathroom door, and once it was she slammed it shut, smashing his thing without reservation.

I laughed my ass off when she told me that.

Anyway, after that happened she escaped through a window and climbed down a tree. But in the end she was caught, brought back, and "punished". Which is why she was so beat up and had that wound in her gut when I found her.

I just listened to her story without saying a word.

It's the least I could do.

Chess didn't realize it, but she started to cry while recounting her tale. When she did I simply gave her a light hug until she cried as much as she wanted.

Once it was over I got her a tissue, and she cleaned herself up.

Then she told me about how she remembered me appearing in front of her, but hiw everything after that was mostly a blank.

"And that's it." Chess said.

"I see." I said. "Sorry to ask this, but do you know what happened to everyone else? They were all dead when we arrived."

"Yes, those pieces of shit murdered them." Chess said. She then started clinching the covers. "It seems like after I escaped, they all started to revolt. I didn't... I didn't want that to...They all d-"

"Don't finish that thought." I told her, causing her to look in my direction. "Just don't Chess. They did what they want. You just gave them courage. Besides them getting killed was a mercy. There are things far worse than death." I said, looking her directly in the eyes.

She shivered a bit, then simply nodded.

At least she understands I'm not messing around.

Taking a quick breather I looked Chess in the eyes again. "Chess I'll just come out and say it. You are a vampire now." I told her. "You asked me to save your life, and there was no other choice. So I asked my teacher to turn you into a vampire. If you hate me that's understandable. I will take any punishment or actions you decide to dish out without running away."

Chess looked at me for a moment without saying a word.

She then started to reach for me, only to wrap her arms around me neck and pull me into a hug.

"So that wasn't a dream?"

I am speechless.

Chess stopped hugging me. She then looked at me and smiled. "When I asked you help me live, you did just that."

"Aren't you angry though?" I questioned her. "You are now the very thing that terrorized you. The very thing that caused your death. You have been pulled into the world of the supernatural with hardly any say. Don't you hate me, loathe me, want to kill me?"

Chess shook her head. "I know that's what I should be feeling, and honestly I am scared as hell right now. But I don't feel any anger towards you. Because I remember. I had a choice, and I chose this, so I am not going to regret my decision too much. That's just how I am going to look at things."

I am stunned.

Chess is taking this better than most. Hell, even adults don't usually take ending up in the supernatural this well. This just means that Chess is something special indeed.

"Well I am glad you feel that way." I said. "By the way, just so you know I am a supernatural too." I told her. I then transformed into my vampire form.

If she is going to be in my care then I don't want there to be any secrets between us.

"Ah, such beautiful white hair." Chess said. She then started playing with my hair.

I'll admit. It feels strange, but its not unwelcome.

We stayed like that for a few moments, but I changed back.

"Ah, why did you change back?" Chess asked pouting.

"Because it's been five minutes." I told her. "And besides it's time for you to have your first drink of blood." I said, handing the blood bag in my hand to her. "You are a vampire now after all, and you do need to drink blood to actually survive."

"Ok then." Chess said.

She then took the blood bag out of my hand and sunk her fangs into it, beginning to drink the thing like a capri sun juice box.

Man, can she drink the Kool-Aid.

----------------------------------------------

Sitting in my room I heard a knock at my door.

"Come in." I said.

The door then opened and my mother entered, closing the door behind her.

I turned from my desk to face her.

"So, how is the girl, Chess was it?" She asked me.

"She's good." I said.

I spent about an hour with Chess before I informed anyone she was awake. I didn't want to overwhelm her, and I also wanted to face any punishments she might give out alone.

But in the end, everything went fine.

So after I got her situated with he doctors I returned to my room.

"That's excellent." My mother said. She then walked over to me and punched me right on top of my head.

"Ow!" I said, rubbing the spot. "What was that for?"

"For being incredibly reckless and selfish." My mother spoke. "If that girl didn't really mean what she said she might have tried to kill herself after learning what she became. Or she might have gone on a rampage endangering others. You get that right?"

I stopped rubbing my head and looked my mother in the eyes. "I do get that. I understand fully what the situation was, and I am not shying away from it."

"Well as long as you understand. But next time take a moment and think will you." My mother said.

"I will." I said. "In fact I have been doing some thinking over these past few hours, and I would like to request something."

"What is it?" My mother asked me.

"That Chess become my second attendant." I said.

High-ranking members and nobles within our faction can have more than one attendant. And since I am taking responsibility for Chess, this is the best way to do so.

"Oh, it looks like we were on the same train of thought. I was planning to make that girl your attendant anyhow." My mother explained to me.

"Thanks." I told her.

"No problem." Mom said. "But more to the point, make sure you look after her."

"I will." I said.

"Also nice job." She said. She placed a hand on my shoulder and gave me a thumbs up. "Not even a teenager yet and you already have two beauties on both arms. It's a nice start to your harem."

To my mother's words I just gave her a deadpan look in response.

She really needs to get better material, that joke isn't funny.

I have already decided to have a harem, and am not ashamed of it.

If I didn't then it would be sacrilege towards the world of DxD.

And I am a man of culture after all.
