Capítulo 4: Who's that Pokemon?

A boy was lying on the bed in a dark room with his eyes covered with a cloth dipped in water.

He grudgingly opened his eyes, but the tremendous pain that followed after made him immediately shut his eyes once again.

'Where am I and what happened to me?' with his eyes still closed, Alan tied to figure what was going on. One moment, he was in a car with his dad while everything went dark the next second.

After a few minutes, he tried to open his eyes again when he thought he was feeling less pain. The pain was still there but not as much as before.

He rose from the bed and started looking around, 'this is my room.'

As soon as he figured that, the door to his room opened, and Ellie walked in, giving a small yelp.

"Ah, you are finally awake," she hurriedly ran to Alan and hugged him tightly, "you scared me when your dad brought you home unconscious," her voice broke as tears appeared in her eyes.

"I am fine, mom; you don't have to worry," he hugged her back.

"So, you are finally up," another voice said, and for sure, it was Alex who was walking towards the mother and son, hugging each other.

"How long was I asleep?" he asked; he was not sure how long he had been unconscious, but the answer shocked him to the point of him having his eyes filled with disbelieve.

"It's been 11 months," said Alex as he looked at Alan's face.

*THUCK*

"Would you stop messing around? He has still not recovered," with a pillow in hand, Ellie bashed Alex as hard as she could.

"Stop, Stop," cried Alex by the constant barrage of pillow attacks.

Alan relaxed, seeing the playful expression on his father's face, and realized he was messing with, but then, an evil grin appeared on his face. He immediately dropped to the ground and held his head.

"Ah, this hurts," he cried in the best acting he could muster, and sure enough, the effect was noticeable.

"Look at what you have done," with her anger reaching the roof, Ellie immediately went to check up on Alan and helped him lay on the bed, "why don't you rest up, and I will make some delicious food for you, alright?" she said while caressing Alan's face.

She then started walking out of the room, but her words reverberated in the now silent room, "you will be sleeping on the couch tonight," leaving behind a devastated Alex who was now looking at Alan, who had a wide grin plastered on his face.

"I will get you back for this," he said grudgingly but then walked to Alan and sat beside him; his expression now had a father's love, "how are you feeling? You had me worried when you suddenly lost consciousness."

"I was fine for a second, but then everything went dark. I think it is because..." but before he could finish, Alan covered his mouth with his hand.

"I don't know what it is, but I can guess what it might be. It is a blessing, but jealousy might arise if it ever comes out to the public. I don't need to know anything nor any explanation, but you have to promise me to use this moderately until you have full control over it."

Alan looked at his father with surprise, but he hugged him tightly. After a while, he looked up and asked the question he still had no answers for.

"How long have I been unconscious?"

"It's been two days, and before you get worried, none of the eggs have hatched, and it will take about a week for them to do so."

Alan sighed in relief as he heard that; he did not want to miss the hatching of his starter. The first person a baby pokemon sees will be the one they have the strongest attachment to. He tried to make a strong bond with his starter, and the best moment for it was when it hatched.

"Now rest up and recover; you will have to start your official pokemon school in two months. And it would be best if you also started thinking about the weapon you would like to train in. I will go help your mother; maybe she would let me sleep on the bed for that," with that said, Alex stood up and walked out of the room, leaving behind Alan, who was deep in thought.

'Pokemon school and a weapon.'

Once everyone gets their starter pokemon at the age of ten, they need to attend a mandatory two-year pokemon school. However, this school did not teach them about taking care of their pokemon or how to battle with them; no, that was for a trainer to figure out themselves.

The school taught students how to fight to survive on their journey.

The pokemon journey was not all fun and games where you go around the world challenging people and catching pokemon while making bonds with each other.

This was a cruel world where you die if you even slipped up once. If a hundred people became a trainer, it is said that only twenty of them would be alive after just one year. The danger that lurked in the dense forest was not something a rookie could handle, and hence humans were taught how to fight too.

This way, they could protect themselves if their pokemon did not protect them while fighting some other pokemon.

But the main question here was: how could a human fight with a pokemon who could breathe fire that could burn down forests and freeze the entire rivers?

The answer lay in the fact that it was not only the pokemons who grew stronger. Catching a pokemon was simple but what came after was the real deal.

Blood Bonds.

A pokemon and trainer would make a blood bond, and this way, the pokemon would share some of their strength with their human trainer. This is where the potential of a pokemon mattered. The higher the potential, higher the boost trainers get from their pokemon.

Many would think: Then why not just make Blood Bond with a lot of pokemons?

No, one person could make a Blood Bond with just one pokemon their whole life. If the said pokemon dies, they would never be able to make another Blood Bond ever, and hence the strength and potential of your starter mattered the most.

Their potential was even more important since it would give the trainer a particular skill depending on the pokemon they bonded with.

For example: if a pokemon has a move, let's say, Protect, when it was born, there is a possibility, depending on the grade of potential, that the trainer could learn that move. A light yellow pokemon would have less probability of passing a special skill than a deep yellow, and light green would have a higher probability than the deep yellow and so on.

The Pokemon school taught you to explore your strengths and weaknesses and control your unique skills.

Once it hatched, Alan, who would soon get a starter, would have to attend the pokemon school to get a beginner license.

Alan knew his quiet and peaceful life was about to end; following it was a life full of danger and adventure. But,

'I am looking forward to it.'

He again closed his eyes; he needed to rest as much as possible to recover quickly.

*******************

In a room, a young boy restlessly walked back and forth, his face showed nervousness, but there was a mix of anticipation and excitement.

"Calm down, Alan," said Alex, sitting in a corner along with Ellie.

Today was the day the egg with blue potential would hatch. The others had already hatched yesterday, and the only remaining one was the egg that would give Alan his starter.

"Do you not want to choose one from the ones that hatched yesterday? We did the talent inspection, and they all had green potential, mind you. My starter was a deep yellow," said Ellie as she looked at the restless Alan, "I still cannot believe your luck, if only you could get lucky like this forever," she spoke with a tinge of regret.

Getting four green potential pokemon from four eggs was something unheard of. The most one had obtained from the eggs provided by the league was a yellow grade; at least, that is what has been reported.

Alex, who had now confirmed his guesses, stayed silent as he looked at Alan, who was walking back and forth around the egg.

'Is it a deep green? Or...' he did not even think of a possibility more than a deep green, but the way his son scoffed of green potential pokemons had him believe otherwise.

The room again fell silent, and the only sound that could be heard was Alan's footsteps followed by his heartbeat.

After what felt like hours to Alan but were minutes, the egg placed on the bed started shaking and cracking sounds could be heard.

Alan stopped in his footsteps, walked close to it, and observed the whole process. The cracks started enlarging, and the entire egg cracked open very soon.

A brown creature with four legs walked out of it and looked around curiously until its eyes landed on Alan, who was staring at it with a small smile.

"Hello, my name is Alan," he said with a soft and calm voice to not scare the little pokemon.

It was a quadrupedal pokemon with primarily brown fur. The tip of its bushy tail and its large furry collar were cream-coloured. It had short, slender legs with three tiny toes and a pink paw pad on each foot. It had brown eyes, long pointed ears with dark brown interiors, and a small black nose.

It tilted its head to a side before it spoke in a soft voice, "Eeve-ee."

Alan smiled and went closer to it before carefully picking the pokemon in his arms. Sensing no danger, its mood immediately brightened up as it nuzzled into Alan's chest.

"Eevee Eeve-ee," it cried happily before settling down.

"I like you too; you should be hungry. Here take this," Alan walked towards the table, which already had a bottle filled with the best quality Miltank milk.

Alan held it in his hands and helped Eevee drink it while it still lay in his arms against his chest.

"With how careful you are, you look like a mother who has just given birth to a baby," teased Ellie from the side, "from the looks of it, you are going to keep it, right?"

"Yes, Eevee will be my starter pokemon," he replied with confidence.

"What would you do with the other ones then?" she asked.

"As cruel as it may sound, I would sell them so I can get resources for my Eevee," replied Alan with no hesitation. He had to be a bit cold-hearted if he wanted to be a great trainer.

With a knowing smile, Ellie walked up to Alan and held his face in her hands, "it is not cruel. You cannot raise them so you are just giving them to someone else who would, this way they too would get a place to live."

She then looked at Eevee who was drinking the milk at a very fast speed, "and looking at this glutton, I bet you would need all the money in the world."

"Let's leave them alone so they can bond with each other," said Alex as he walked towards the door, "come down stairs once you are done."

When a pokemon are born, they enter a phase called, Baby Stage, which last for almost a week for most pokemon. During this time, the pokemon cannot perform any types of attacks and also also at their weakest. It was within this stage that they form strong bonds with others, be it their birth parents or a human.

Alex wanted Eevee to be in the presence of Alan only since it was just born as this would help strengthen the bond between them.

As the two were left alone in the room, Alan walked up to his bed and placed Eevee on it while it it was still drinking the milk. He took out his pokedex and from it opened an app called, Pokegram.

He carefully took a picture of the Eevee and posted it online with captions: The cutest starter ever ♡.

Once the Eevee was done drinking all the milk, it stood up and walked towards Alan, but fumbled and fell back onto the bed.

"Evee," with small tears in it's eyes, it looked at Alan who was melted by it's cuteness.

"Here let me hold you," he took the Eevee back in his arms as he started talking to the now happy pokemon, "We need a name for you," he said and started thinking before his eyes suddenly lightened up, "How about name you after your first words? Your name will be Eve, do you like it?"

Eevee did not understand what Alan was saying but it happily nudged into his chest.

"I will take this as a yes then," said Alan as he and Eve talked for a while before it went to sleep.

Of course after drinking another bottle of milk.

I hope you will like my work, please let me know in the comment section. Do leave a review if you like it as well.

I am learning about Pokemon and I can see myself understanding new things but I do want to say, there are elements which I have introduced and they are not canon. I hope you would let them come to fruit before criticizing. I however, will take any positive criticism there is or any siggestion which you all may have. I will make sure to change those things if I think should be changed.

Thank you!
