Capítulo 79: Issue #4
(So I'm kennel training a puppy. This means that I don't get to sleep until he tires himself out. So I'm gonna just write a chapter for you guys until that happens. Enjoy!)
Instead of returning to the US, Jack sent a message to his squadmates and Captain America about the mission he wanted them to accept. He also said that since he was already on the other side of the planet, he would watch over Doom starting in Latveria.
His squad each expressed their approval and would be waiting around Times Square in hidden locations. Their main job was to be unseen and only act if needed. If nothing happened, there was no need to make an appearance. Only Jack would be near Doom and be used as a deterrent to any criminal trying to make a quick buck.
Steve also approved and gave them the mission. He was trying to find out which team would be able to take it on but with most of the Avengers, especially Reed, Sue, and Ben, having... issues with Doom, it was hard to determine a team. With Jack volunteering, it saved him a large amount of hassle.
Jack sent affirmative to all of the people he messaged before continuing on into Latveria's airspace. Not even 1 minute after he entered, Doctor Doom appeared before him, flying in the air.
"Frost. You enter Latveria's territory without permission. I hope you have a good reason or I will have you arrested and hung for crimes against the state," Doom threatened
"Nice to see you too, Doom. Or should I say 'Doombot'," Jack replied
These Doombots were genius creations made by Dr. Doom. They were so realistic that Doom would send them on missions in his stead or deal with people he personally didn't wish to. Most were unable to tell the difference between the pair.
But with Jack's [Clear Sight], he was able to see that the thing in front of him had no life force inside of it.
[Tsk. It seems that even more modifications need to be made to my Doombots. Self-destruct, you failed me for the first and last time.] Doom's voice came out of the Doombot's chest instead of his mouth. As soon as he finished speaking, the Doombot immediately exploded and created a massive explosion that would have killed most other heroes.
Jack created a thick barrier of ice in front of him that blocked the entire blast from hitting him. With the Doombot no longer in his way, Jack flew toward Doom's castle.
Jack did not land outside and wait for permission to enter but used his powers to phase through the walls until he arrived in Doom's throne room.
"Doom."
"Frost."
The two men stared at each other with imaginary sparks appearing before their eyes. In most circumstances, these two would respect each other and even be friends. They both had egos that could eclipse the sun.
But because of one person, the two would most likely declare war on each other in the near future.
"Uncle Doom! I finished that puzzle you gave me," Valeria said as she rushed into the room before noticing Jack. "Uncle Jack! You're here!"
Valeria ran over to Jack who picked her up before giving him a big hug around his neck. Jack shot Doom a provocative glare. Doom ignored this look before turning his attention to Valeria.
"Child. Did you finish all the assignments I gave you?" Doom asked in a tone that most would think was cold, but those who knew Doom knew that he was speaking very gently.
"Of course, Uncle Doom," Valeria smiled at the dictator. "This was easier than the last stuff you gave me though. Do you have anything harder?"
Doom and Jack were not surprised by her words but most others would be. The 3-year-old child before them was saying that advanced astrophysics was too easy. But to the two doting uncles just knew how amazing the girl was.
"Uncle Jack, what are you doing in Latveria?"
"Oh. I wanted to see you but sadly, I had to accept a mission to watch over that piece of tin in the suit over there. But don't worry, that's just tomorrow. Today, I'm all yours," Jack hugged the little girl as he told her his plans
"Bah. Doom needs no protection. I planned to send one of the diplomat Doombots over in my stead. It is you, Frost, that will need protection if you do not release Valeria."
"Really?" Jack began gathering cold energy around his body. "Cause I think that you need protection from."
Energy began to form around both of Doom's hands as he stood up from his throne. The tension between the two was even worse than when Jack had first arrived.
"Enough, both of you! If you two keep acting like this, I will refrain from speaking to you both," Valeria threatened, no longer putting on her cute act
Valeria was much more mature for her age than even her parents knew but Jack and Doom were aware of it. She would still act cute in front of them every now and then since they did cool experiments with her and taught her knowledge that her parents wouldn't.
These two were actually amazing teachers for the girl. Both were skilled in technology and magic but one specialized in another more than the other. Jack was her main magic tutor while Doom was her science tutor.
Doom was a genius that made Hank Pym and Tony Stark look like nothing but fools in front of him when it came to many fields.
"Doom will not be threatened by a child," Doom retorted, not willing to back down easily. But after getting a glare from Valeria, she stopped without further protest
Hearing the little princess speak, both men stopped gathering energy and relaxed. Each of them shot the other one last glare at the other before they brought Valeria to the training room.
The pair trained her for several hours until it was dark in the sky. When it became time, the pair brought her to bed and tucked her in before walking out of the room and making their way to Doom's private study.
When the doors closed, Doom turned his attention to Jack.
"Now that she is asleep, what is that you truly want?" Doom asked knowing better than to assume Jack had only been here for Valeria. Although Jack loved the girl, he knew better than to come into Doom's turf without good reason.
Jack sat down and poured himself a cup of water from the jar on the table. After taking a sip, he spoke his true intentions.
"Stark is making moves behind the scenes. I am not sure what he is planning exactly but I do know he is gathering very influential or powerful people. Xavier, Richards, Namor. There are also a few others but I can't be sure of who they are yet."
Doom instantly understood what Jack was implying and why he had come to Doom.
"So you wish to bring back the Cabal that fell a few years ago. What makes you think it would work this time? And who else do you think is worthy of being in such a group with Doom?"
"I have several candidates in mind. Morgan Le Fey and Emma Frost are the two I'm set on having on the team. Both have the power and influence but most importantly we both personally know they can be trusted.
As for the others, I am more than willing to discuss them with you. We need those that are dark but have codes we can trust to uphold. So are you in?" Jack asked as he stretched out his hand
Doom took a moment to think about it before taking Jack's hand in his own.
"Let us work together then. But if you ever betray me, you will know the consequences," Doom warned
Jack nodded in understanding. He came to Doom before he even asked Emma because the entire Cabal would not be able to last without his support. But with Doom backing him, Jack was confident that his plans would succeed.
(Oh wow. The puppy went to bed before I finished this chapter. Yay!)
