I couldn't help but freeze as my knowledge of canon was on the cusp of crashing and burning or in other words, being taken out behind the barn to be shot with a mortar...
If Ruby wasn't in Beacon or even Vale, disregarding how she brought the rest of these kids with daddy issues together, how would we deal with the massive Grimm dragon without her super special bargain bin Sharingan...
My face twitched as I realized she wasn't even needed as within a couple of months at most YoRHa would be here and unlike the people of Remnant, they will be bringing technology that isn't completely hamstrung on needing dust to function. In other words, the Grimm dragon may be scary and all, but a solid telephone pole-sized tungsten pole being shot down from orbit through a railgun would easily kill it with a couple of shots even if it could regenerate not to mention the laser weaponry that could burn away any remains.
"Guys! The Nevermore is coming back!" Jeanne yelled out nervously as she put herself beside me with her shield held in front of her.
Looking up away from where Yang was comforting Ruby, I noticed that yes, the bird was now about to do a drive-by pass just over us with how the bird was flying just over the tree line.
Faintly I could hear Yang telling Ruby to go get another 'relic' but I was focused on the bird and then I shoved my hand forward shooting a massive collection of almost randomly shot lightning bolts that almost blinded and deafened me with the deluge of lightning I sent at the bird.
Unfortunately, with all the lightning in front of me, I couldn't actually see if I was even hitting the bird so after I felt Weiss tap me on my back I stopped and looked back to her. Weiss was wearing a deadpan look as she was covering her ears at the insane volume my lightning-caused and I couldn't help but feel a little sheepish seeing how the other people were also giving me looks.
Blake on the other hand had hidden behind Yang and had used her arms to cover her human ears and her hands to almost subtly cover her ribbon-covered cat ears atop her head. I kinda felt a little bad now.
The bird having been electrocuted so much, was audibly crushing some foliage in the distance but I couldn't see through all the trees to where it might have landed so I looked to Weiss and spoke. "The Nevermore won't be an issue for a while so let's get back to Beacon. We already got our relic, and we will likely lose points for just sitting around."
Weiss nodded and gave Ruby a look who was still shell-shocked about not finding a partner before replying. "Alright let's go."
We then left the other people behind as we trailed back to Beacon, where we could easily see the massive castle built upon a nearby mountain but soon after we left Weiss hummed before speaking. "That Ruby girl... Do you think she will be able to get in?"
Weiss looked at me in surprise as I chuckled loudly before I nodded and answered. "Weiss, I already heard how Ruby is some genius student from Signal who got moved up a whole two years after she stopped a dust robbery being conducted by one of Vale's major criminals. Ozpin has already shown that he is willing to use nepotism to get a high-value student here and not waste her time back in her little training school." I paused thinking how it was impossible for Ozpin to let Ruby and her silver eyes slink back to Patch for another couple of years with how one of the Maidens got attacked and it was likely he may be grooming Ruby to be the next Maiden.
"I can easily see him just pushing her towards an already full team to make a five-man team, or have her just attend classes and should one of our classmates die... Well, there will be an empty place in that team." I finished as I blandly sent a wind blade backward with my feet to kill a little Creep that was attempting to blindside us in the back.
Despite how crazy Machine Lifeforms were, they were far more intelligent and thus dangerous compared to Grimm who almost entirely seemed to rely on their animal shape's instincts though that could be just the fact that I have not fought much older Grimm yet.
Well, that and a dozen flying robots shooting lasers at you are a lot more annoying compared to a dozen Beowolves that will attempt to rip me to pieces.

After our trek through the forest, we made our way back to Beacon and after putting on our new school uniforms me and Weiss along with the rest of the students that made their way back to Beacon were in the amphitheater waiting for Ozpin to finally call out our new teams.
Whereas during the initiation at the cliffside, I noticed there were a solid couple hundred new prospective students, here in the auditorium there were less than thirty altogether.
"Jake Bariss, Weiss Schnee, Pyrrha Nikos, Jeanne Arc. You four both collected the white rook pieces. From this day forward you will work together as team Juniper... led by Jake Bariss." Ozpin announced into the microphone before turning to me and speaking. "Congratulations young man. We at Beacon look forward to seeing you thrive here."
Even as he congratulated me, I noticed Weiss stiffen momentarily hearing how I became the leader of our team but seemed to relax losing some of her tension.
I wonder if it was because I and Pyrrha both were 'equal' to her in terms of bearing and combat in her eyes so she didn't see it as much of a loss.
"And finally, Blake Belladonna, Yang Xiao-Long, Lie Rin, and Nora Valkyrie. The four of you all retrieved the white knight pieces and from this day forward you will work together as. Team Blane." He said surprisingly with a straight face and I honestly couldn't blame him for the weird name that was missing a Y for Yang as I couldn't really think of a name for them either. "Led by Blake Belladonna." He said smiling and as Blake flinched, I couldn't help but wonder what thoughts were running through the cat girl's head.
"Woohoo my partner is the leader!" Yang yelled out triumphantly as she hugged the clearing-off-put teenager as Nora huffed about not being the queen of the cavalry.
"Go on down for now." Ozpin quickly dismissed the students and then the room seemed to be filled with a dark weight that pressed down on us as Ozpin stared at us silently for a few moments before he put his scroll into his pocket and began speaking again. "This year there was a total of two hundred and eleven prospective students, one hundred and ninety survived the landing during initiation, and only ninety students in pairs or in larger groups made it to the relics and grabbed one." Ozpin looked at us all making sure we understood what he was saying.
"More than a hundred of the people you walked into Beacon's hollowed grounds besides, died before you even stepped into one of our classrooms... The Grimm are an ever-present threat and as the premier training institute of Huntsmen, know that we will not coddle you, we will not baby you, this is not a safe area in any way... Make sure you bring your weapons to and from classes even on campus grounds as the weapon systems do not kill the smallest Nevermore as its simply a waste of the cities ammo." The serious headmaster then smiled darkly as he huffed and began leaving towards the back of the Ampitheater.
Glynda Goodwitch the Vice Mistress of the school scowled at seeing Ozpin probably just up ending the script, so she strode forward and took out a mic and told us where to get our Beacon app for our scrolls, and how our lesson plans as well as a map of the campus would be on said scroll. Finally, she looked down in the crowd of students and spoke. "And Ruby Rose please follow me, we need to figure out your situation with Ozpin. The rest of you, are now dismissed!" She ordered and all the students hopped to their feet and began heading towards the dormitories.
