Chapter 6: Shiny New Friend

Our group headed to the northern outskirts of the village.

After we reached it I noticed several different species of pokemon.

We walked for several moments more, until we reached a lake, with a small mountain situated on its far side dotted with various cave entrances.

The moment this happened I saw various species of dragon-type pokemon as far as my eyes could see.

And not just the dragon-type pokemon native to the Unova region.

I saw members of the Dragonite line, Garchomp line, Goodra line, etc.

What I am looking at is basically a dragon-type specialist wet dream.

"Beautiful." I muttered.

"Yes, it is." Drayden said.

"Truly it is." Isla added. A smile on her face.

She then turned to me. "Well then. Go on. Head down there and find a young dragon to take as your own." She told me.

"Am, but what about the fully grown dragons?" I questioned.

Since I don't want to make any of them angry if say the dragon that I choose as my own is one of their children.

Because there is nothing scarier than an angry parent.

"It is fine. All the dragons here understand and respect the ceremony." Isla informed me. "They will not interfere, and if some do well we have safeguards in place." She told me cryptcailly. "So you are fine young Ezra. Trust me." She said.

After she did so I spared a glance at Drayden who nodded his head.

Once he did so I took a deep breath and looked at Ladon.

"Let's go find us a new friend partner." I said.

Ladon nodded.

Once he did so we started heading down towards the other dragons.

A feeling of excitement in my chest as we did so.

------------------------------------

(3rd Person: POV)

As Ladon and Ezra headed down towards the other dragons, Isla and Drayden stayed atop the hill watching them as they did so.

"He reminds me so much of Dalia." Isla said.

Once Ezra was out of earshot.

"That he does." Drayden replied. "That he does."

"I also think he has what is takes to make a dragon-master in the future." Isla said.

"Yes." Drayden replied. "I think so as well."

"Even so he needs nurturing on all fronts." Isla.

"I know." Drayden replied. "I won't make the same mistakes as before." He said.

Getting a melancholy expression on his face.

Seeing her friend like this Isla said nothing.

She simply slipped on her hands into his and gave it a soft squeeze.

----------------------------------

(Ezra: POV)

Ladon by my side I moved through the area filled with dragons.

Talking to various young ones, trying to see if they wanted to join up with me.

But none of them did.

Then after an hour of talking and searching I decided it was time for a break.

So I found a tree and sat under it, Ladon joining me.

As I relaxed under the shade I felt a nice breeze on my face. Basking in it, I barely noticed when something started coming towards me.

But notice it I did.

Opening my eyes I saw it was a Dratini.

A shiny Dratini at that.

But the Dratini being a shiny wasn't the only thing different about it. It looks smaller than most Dratini. Who are on average 1.8 meters in length. But the one in front me right now looks to be only about 1 meter if my guess is correct.

Basically, it's a runt when compared to others.

Not that care about that.

Since they saying goes: The smaller the dog the tougher they fight.

Or something along those lines.

Slowly but surely I stretched my hand out in the Dratini direction. "Hey there little one." I said.

"Bagon." Ladon greeted it.

After he did so Dratini stopped coming forward and took us both in.

But eventually afer a minute passed it slithered closer and closer, until eventually its nose touched my outstretched hand.

When it did so I gently rubbed it.

"Dratinit. Dra." It happily said.

"Yes, that's it." I told it.

It then came closer and closer, until it slithered right into my lap.

"There we go." I said. "So, you are different from the others around here huh?"

Dratinit nodded.

"Well you know, being different isn't bad. Sometimes it's cool." I explained to me. "My name is Ezra, and the Bagon is my partner Ladon." I explained to Dratini.

The three of us then got to chatting, and before I knew it I heard my stomach rumbling.

Telling me it was time to get some food in it.

"Looks like it's lunchtime." I said.

But before I ate there is one thing I had to do.

"Dratini. If you're willing how about you join up with the two of us?" I asked it.

"Tini? Dratini?" It questioned.

"I'm serious." I told it. "I don't care about your small size. I'll make you strong regardless of it. Not to mention I like your coloring." I explained to it.

"Bagon." Ladon said. A smile on his face.

Meaning he wants Dratini to join us as well.

"So, what do you say?" I asked it once more.

Dratini stared at the two of us for several seconds.

Until eventually it slowly nodded its head.

Making Ladon and I both put smiles on our faces.

Looks like we've just added another member to our team.

Who is a shiny at that.

Man, I don't think this day can get any better.

--------------------------------------------------------

After Dratini agreed to join Ladon and I the three of us head back to where Isla and my grandfather were waiting.

When we arrived Drayden and Isla were both shocked I managed to gain a shiny as my partner. But only said a few words before handing me over a pokeball, which I then used to capture Dratini.

Once I did all of us headed back to the village and had a nice lunch as Isla's home.

Where she managed to discern Dratinit's gender as male.

Something I greatly appreciated, since knowing a pokemon's gender is always important.

After we all finished eating I decided to head outside to play.

But before I could the door to Isla's home burst opened and someone entered with a Deino by their side.

It is a boy my age with short blonde hair and blue eyes.

"Grandma, hello." He said to Isla.

"Gareth, how rude. I've told you many times to knock. I have guests at the moment." She told him. Leveling a stern glare at him as she did so.

He cowered under it.

But just as quickly brushed it off when he saw Drayden.

"Drayden. Nice to meet you." He said nervously.

"You as well young man." Drayden replied.

After he did so Gareth got a small blush on his face.

He's so fanboying right now.

Noticing me looking at him Gareth directed his gaze to me. "Hey, who are you and why are you looking at me like that?" He rudely asked. His personality changing in an instant.

"The name is Ezra Grimheart. A pleasure." I told him.

"Right." He said. Gareth's eyes then focused on Ladon and Dratinit.

"You've got two pokemon already!" He cried.

"Sure do." I replied.

"How?" He asked.

"One I got just today, and the other I caught all by myself." I explained to him.

"No fair. Grandpa, I want another pokemon as well." Gareth said.

"Oh, and who do you think you're talking to like that young man?" Isla asked him. Putting a kind smile on her face that didn't reach her eyes.

"Ah no one! I'm sorry." Gareth quickly spoke.

Understandable.

Since grandma's are dangerous beasts you don't want to mess with.

I am speaking from experience.

"Good, that's what I thought." Isla said. "Well how about you two kids go outside and play while we grown ups chat." She suggested.

After she did so I headed outside with Gareth.

"So, you came with Drayden?" He asked me.

"Yep, I came with gramps." I explained.

"What?!" He questioned.

"Drayden is my grandfather." I told Gareth.

"So lucky." He spoke.

"Well Isla is nice, so you are lucky as well." I told him.

"Sure I am." He muttered. "So, want to battle?" He asked me out of nowhere.

"Can we?" I questioned.

"Yes." Gareth asked.

"Well then sure." I said.

Excited to experience my very first real-life pokemon battle.

A/N: I will be putting various OC's throughout this story.

Some will be extremely important and some won't.

Gareth is the former so stay tuned for more.
