Capítulo 155: Chapter 153: A change in plans?

Homura's frantic search in the dimly lit room was punctuated by a stream of internal monologue. Where is it? It has to be here somewhere, he thought, his frustration mounting with each passing second. The torchlight flickered ominously, casting eerie shadows that seemed to mock his desperate quest.

Curse it all, he mentally cursed, beads of sweat forming on his forehead as he tore through the room. It was a race against time, and he could feel the relentless pain still coursing through his body, refusing to relent.

Then, his fingers brushed against something. Relief washed over him as he snatched up a small white box, the object of his desperate search. But his relief was short-lived as he yanked out a vial filled with a clear liquid.

Without hesitation, he prepared a syringe and injected the contents into his body. As the numbing relief began to course through his veins, Homura's body went limp, and he found solace in the temporary respite from the excruciating pain.

Homura watched with widening eyes as the effects of the medicine took hold. His inner monologue shifted to analyze the substance he had used. Similar to morphine, but not quite... The composition's slightly different, but the effects are unmistakable.

A sigh of relief escaped his lips, though he knew it wouldn't last long. He was acutely aware of his body's metabolism, calculating the dwindling moments of reprieve. Roughly thirty minutes, but that was a year ago, he reasoned. My size has changed. Maybe 28, or even 27 minutes.

Homura couldn't help but reflect on the drawbacks of his accelerated metabolism. An adult would need hours to recover, but for me, it's a mere fraction of that time. The very fact that he could perform such calculations was a testament to the effects of the substance, even if it wasn't perfect. But at this moment, numbness was all he sought, and it had been achieved, if only temporarily.

Not long after he grabbed the set of health kit near by and started using the contents inside.

Homura: "Tch! This ointment isn't helping much," A bandaged Homura was applying to his injuries but it wasn't helping much.

As he thought, real burn injuries and induced burn injuries are quite different since oddly enough it seems that most of the causes of the injuries he suffered were both inside and outside.

Homura's body temperature seems to have increased as his body and brain reacted to the illusionary fire and strangulation marks.

How that worked exactly was the least of Homura's problems, he didn't want to see Yakumo Kurama ever again if he could help it.

Homura: "As I thought…This is too dangerous." Homura said as he grabbed a small packet full of Yakumo's DNA in a container full of ice and hid it among other similar small containers.

He then grabbed a notepad with nonsensical words written into it that only could read as it was a made up language that only made sense if one knew Homura's memories of a code he played with when he was a child, but no long after writing some undecipherable words he checked  a check small box.

Soon he put back the notepad where he found it and sat on the chair once again and sighed.

Homura: "Only two left... the worst is now over...but the last one is a problem as well...;" Homura sighed at the thought of the few more things he'd have to get before becoming a genin.

At the rate he was going he had no doubt that he would become a genin, he was certainly already strong enough.

The problem was the chunin exams.

And for that Homura needed genetic materials either from an Uzumaki to test a theory of his and the blood and skin samples of someone who had wood release.

Currently there were only 2, one really...the other one would be suicidal and seen how people with kekkei genkai can be so dangerous, Homura could not risk it.

He decided to not use Yakumo's blood after all.

What had happened yesterday, well a few hours ago, was still vivid in Homura's memories.

He refused to admit that he was scared of that power, but he was. He still remembers the fear that Kurama instilled inside of him.

He felt the something similar from Yakumo, which resulted into complete dispair.

Thankfully it seemed Yakumo could only control other people senses, and parts of the mind; if she had done as much he would have undoubtedly burned to death without being able to do a thing.

Even his sharingan, which was supposed to be his defense against ninjutsu was rendered completely useless.

The Kurama clan's kekkei genkai was too dangerous.

As it stood out, he believed it would be too dangerous for him to try anything with it.

Yakumo was a normal girl, at least when compared to Homura; if she was capable to kill anyone while she was not fully in control by lashing out… if Homura were to acquire her abilities and failing to control them; the entire village would be in serious danger.

The people he cared about could be in danger, Homura knew that the power that Yakumo possessed came to a cost but...this... this was far too much.

For Homura, even though wished for power; he didn't want to have it at the cost of endangering innocents or cause others the pain of losing family members.

Or even hurting people, for nothing more than senseless violence. If a tragedy could be avoided he would do anything in his power to see that it would be done.

As it stood it was not safe for him to try to use the distilled vile of Yakumo's blood.

Further more he was supposed to get a certain amount of skin tissue but not only he deemed too dangerous but he failed to go with that route again and settled for hair and dead skin.

But it was too late now, at least he got the blood samples he needed, now if he could use those blood samples to grow something out of them, it would be perfect.

But that was an issue he would need to solve by the time after the chunin exams.

Overall the blood he got, served no usage. But it was better to get it now then it was for him to wait until Yakumo gets even stronger.

Besides, it could always serve other usages but as it currently stood, it was unusable. So he had no other choice but to rest within his bunker and hope that tomorrow he felt better because he had classes to attend in the early morning.

It was not like Homura had something better to do at night anyway.

So Homura sat in his secret bunker, carefully tending to his third-degree burn injuries.

The pain was intense, but he knew he had to take care of himself to continue his research. As he worked, his thoughts drifted to the pig he kept for research purposes. Originally meant to be his dinner, Homura had developed a bond with the chubby creature and couldn't bring himself to harm it.

"Hey there, little buddy," he cooed as he approached the pig's enclosure with a bowl of food. "You're lucky today, I guess you get to live a bit longer."

Homura poured the food into the pig's trough, watching the animal munch away contentedly. However, he had a purpose for feeding the pig. He took a syringe filled with a green liquid and approached the now-satiated animal. With a steady hand, he injected the pig with the substance.

Homura: "Let's see how this works on you," Homura mumbled to himself.

Within seconds, the pig's eyelids grew heavy, and it sank into a deep slumber. Homura gently caressed its head, his expression a mix of scientific curiosity and genuine affection.

Homura: "The drug did work," he said to himself, studying the pig's reaction. "I wonder why it didn't have the same effect on Yakumo, the weight difference is not that far apart for this dosage... Maybe it's more effective on animals than on humans. But I can't test it on humans; that's out of the question."

Homura sighed, feeling the weight of his ethical dilemma. He was determined to push the boundaries of his research, but he refused to compromise his principles. As much as he yearned for more test subjects, he knew he couldn't cross that line.

"Maybe I'll have to find another way to perfect this drug," he mused, rubbing his temples wearily. "I can't risk harming anyone. Not even for the sake of my research."

Deep down, Homura knew he had to find a balance between his ambition and his moral compass. He had to continue his scientific pursuits but ensure that they remained within ethical boundaries. As he looked at the sleeping pig, he couldn't help but be grateful for the companionship it provided and the reminder that his work had to be guided by compassion and responsibility.

The animal did change him.

Though it wasn't the only one, there were over 10 different types of animals that Homura now took care of.

Mainly just feed them and make sure they exercise…sometimes.

Having to take care of them changed him.

At the clinic, he learned the basics of caring for others and most minor injuries and allergic reactions or overall things he can or can't do when caring for animals.

The were just supposed to be test subjects that he could use without remorse, but the feeling of being needed and having to take care of them softened him enough that he couldn't go through with murdering animals and try to stich them back together, though on corpses of dead animals…it was an entirely different manner.

But now that he knew enough about them, Homura thought of releasing them but he couldn't let go.

For a series of diverse reasons.

But this was a distraction Homura, was now reminded of something else.

So as he sat there on his makeshift chair, inundated with loud cries of several animals of different sizes he grabbed a scroll about genjutsu and began reading it.

Two hours later and he read everything he had available on the topic but it wasn't much.

Homura: "…I failed to grab anything relevant about genjutsu when I left Yakumo's house." he muttered to himself as he pondered on that day's events.

Far from caring about anything besides his goal at the time and being meticulous about not wanting to be tracked in any way or form, Homura tried to leave without nobody ever realizing that someone had broken in…but now he regrets that he didn't get an opportunity to learn something new.

So now he had to do something drastic.

Homura: "I…I might have to go to the Uchiha clan once again…."
