Yunjun sighed in annoyance before repeating his question to me, this time with a much more serious look.

“I asked if you remember me, Doctor Marchesa. Judging by the way your face looks like right now, I’m guessing that you do not remember me in the slightest.”

“I have never met you before. How could I remember someone that I have never met?”

He paused, letting out a frustrated sigh as he ran a hand through his hair. “You have met me before,” he started to raise his voice as he took another step toward me, “Think. Think back to 2010.”

“2010? Yunjun-ssi, that was ten years ago! How could I possibly remember something from that long ago?”

“How could you remember...? NO, the better question is how could you forget?! There is not a single day that has gone by that I have not thought about you. Do you even realize that you are the reason that I am where I am today? It is...all because of you... I’m a successful musician because of you.”

I just stared at him in utter disbelief.

Indeed, he must be mistaking me for someone else.

As he retook another step toward me, I stood my ground and did not move from my spot.

“Yunjun-ssi, listen,” I slowly began, “I think you are mistaking me for someone else...”

“No. I very clearly remember that it was you that helped me that day in the rain. Do you not remember rushing toward a kid who was tossed out the door with his notebooks and ideas right out into the rain?”

A boy in the rain? A mere child? What does he-... Wait a minute? No, that must be impossible.

I began to think as a flashback played in my head.

~***~

The hard pitter-patter of the rain clinked across every surface that it touched. The sky was dark, and the rolling of thunder had me picking up my pace as I walked with my umbrella. Up ahead of me, I heard shouting. As I looked up, I witnessed someone getting thrown out of a shop from what appeared to be a back entrance. A deep and booming voice was yelling at the person they had thrown out. I watched as they threw what appeared to be books and some other items toward them. I could not make out what, presumably was the shop owner was shouting about.

As soon as I heard a door slam shut, I quickly crossed the street, picking up my pace. The closer I got, the more I could make out the person’s silhouette that was half on the ground. Finally, when I got just a few feet away, I was utterly blown away by what I saw. It was a kid! How could anyone toss a child outside in a downpour like this? Instinctively, I called out to the child while I extended an arm out toward them.

“Hey, kid, are you all right?!?”

It was a boy. He did not say anything but took my hand as I helped him to his feet.

“Are you hurt at all? Do you have somewhere to go?”

He was just staring down at the ground at his belongings. He bent down and slowly gathered them one by one. With there being so many little items scattered, I also bent down to help him. As I gave him the last thing and we stood up, I tried another question.

“Do you have a name, kid? My name is Melody.”

He looked at me and then adjusted the things in his arm as he extended a hand out toward me.

"Yunjun. The name is Kim Yunjun."

~***~

My mind was racing as the memory flooded my mind.

Oh my god... I do know him.

I must have zoned out for too long because he was waving a hand in front of my face.

“Hello? Doctor Marchesa? Anyone home?”

What the hell do I do now? I cannot just admit that I remember him, can I? He is one of my patients now!

I mentally scolded myself, feeling like an idiot.

“Sorry, I think I zoned out or something,” I quickly tried apologizing.

He put his hand down, now crossing his arms in front of his chest. “What were you thinking about?”

“Uhm...”
