Capítulo 4: The first day

Waking up for the first time in a new world as a baby is quite hard. First and foremost Dave felt incredible hunger just as he opened his eyes. Well within expectations. He went trough this experience many times, he wasn't surprised, but that didn't dull the edge of hunger though. Once again instead of resisting his natural urges he went with the flow and started crying, just as any newborn would do.

This acted as an early wake up call for the house and its residents. The birth happened in the evening, so thankfully everyone had a good few hours to rest before the baby becomes active. Obviously the mother woke up first, then the other children who lived there and lastly the very tired and worrisome dad.

"Now now, don't make such a ruckus, here I am, let me feed you." said the mother from the side. She was the only one there, as she was left alone with the baby, while his husband had to sleep in the boy's room.

By the time the baby was quietened, everyone woke up and moved to the main bedroom to marvel at the newborn baby. There, Dave was able to see who his family will consist of.

There was obviously Lilly, his mother, who seemed to be the beauty around, as she had great proportions throughout her body, which was also fit due to physical labor and was only slightly thinner than it should be, which given Dave hope that food won't be much of a problem. Probably it was only because of giving birth not long ago. Contrary to that her face was round and smiley, as if she just woke up from a great sleep on a normal Tuesday morning. Her long red hair gave her a wild feeling, which was absolutely captivating. If Dave had to make comparisons between all his experiences, she was at the higher spectrum of the beauty scale. It was probably heavily biased due to his own preferences. Not like he would ever lay a hand on his family members, those thoughts always gave him shivers, no matter what body he was in.

Next there was the father, Ezakiel, who seemingly couldn't get a wink of sleep that evening. His build was as of a lumberjack, the family really seemed to be a poor laborer one. His face was plain, he was exuding that typical 'everyday man' feeling. When Dave looked at his hair though, he suddenly got the shivers again, as he could see the father to have red hair too. If this world is in the medieval ages and marrying relatives isn't frowned upon yet, then he understood he might have a huge problem on his hand.

Inbreeding was always a huge problem, but for most of the time, nobody knew about it. On Earth inbreeding was even promoted, to 'keep the bloodline clear' of nobles or monarchs. This often caused physiological and/or psychological problems on a genetic level, meaning there is no way to cure them. This usually only happened higher up in the social hierarchy, while common people had no reason to inbreed, but because nobody knew how it affects them, they just didn't care. It was impossible to know who was related to whom, or in small villages, where the gene pool was small, it was hard to avoid marrying a relative, even if its a distant one.

Now Dave had to pray he is healthy and his parents aren't blood related. His eyes weren't adjusted well enough to catch the colour of their eyes, which could indicate blood relation. So now he just had to wait and see

There were 2 more people in the room. A small girl, around 8 year old, Tilly, who could barely contain her energy, she was practically beaming with happiness and she was jumping around in joy like a little puppy. She looked exactly like her mother, just smaller. The other one was Drac, a 5-ish year old boy, who was nervously standing next to his father, like the newborn baby could suddenly stand up, walk over and eat his brains out. He also was quite scrawny next to his father and looked a bit sickly, so that's a red flag there.

For a few minutes they were allowed to marvel at the newborn's cuteness, but soon Lilly shooed everyone out so she can feed the baby in peace. Soon Dave got to know his new name, which was Zora.

After getting fed he was put back to sleep, together with his mother, as giving birth can be quite tiresome, so Lilly was allowed to stay in bed for the day. All the while, even though Zora was quite tired, he wanted to test if he could do something with the magical energies he discovered earlier.

There were many practices and techniques he learned before to focus on these energies and move them, he just had to choose one that fitted the current circumstances the best. It took him quite a while, and at one point was unable to continue the experiments, as they were mentally quite exhausting for a one day old, so he fell asleep.

He slept trough the whole day, and was awakened only once in the morning and the evening to have his sheet changed and get fed again, then back to sleep he went.

The next morning he woke up together with his mother, who fed him, wrapped him up in new comfy sheets and into some extra cloth, then she too got properly dressed and moved out of the room with Zora in her right arm. He tried to check everything out, he was curious about his new environment, but there was not much to see.

The family really seemed to be poor, there was only the small bedrooms and a main room, which was a kitchen and diner at the same time. There was a big table in the middle of the room with half a dozen chairs around it. In one of the corners you could find all the kitchen properties necessary for everyday life, there was a mid-size fire pit in front of one of the walls. Other than that there were four doors, each leading to a bedroom and one outside.

It was early morning, the usual time for people of this age to wake up. The kids were already out and about, playing with whatever small wooden toys they had. Lilly together with Zora moved to the boys' room where Ezakiel was still trying to laze around. He felt like he was almost as exhausted as the mother because of the new kid arriving to the house and all the stress coming with it, so he left like a few extra minutes won't hurt. That is until he noticed his wife in the door.

"Honey... what are you doing? You still have plenty of work outside, don't you? We don't want to lose the crops to the winter freeze, do we? Get up, and move, right. Now." she said with a glare that could kill. She only left the room, after she heard a sigh and a 'Sure, honey...' from his husband.

"I'll clean up in here, start cooking and will go out and help you when I finish." said Lilly as she was leaving. - A new life was entrusted to this household, but that doesn't mean the ones already there can rest easy. Let's get right to it! - thought Lilly with ambition burning in her eyes.

Zora didn't understand a single word though.
