Capítulo 2: Conversation

When was the last time I had been truthful to anyone? It was rare. I couldn't believe that I was grateful that this was happening.

"You. . ." Carlisle spoke, smoke escaping his lips as I looked down at the floor. He trailed off, unable to finish his thought. He had a habit of doing that. I realized that his thoughts never finished, unlike Richter who spoke with such unfiltered tact, he seemed to be doing the opposite. Was it because he didn't trust me?

How could I gain his trust?

"I really mean it," I clamored, my desperation leaking into my words as I quickly composed myself, my fingers toyed with the blankets. What was I doing? I felt panicked at the fact that I had let my desperation spill. I had shown my true emotions. Would he be upset? I knew that Richter's anger flared whenever I finally let my true colors show. "I-I really am grateful," I spoke, a smile pulling on my face—"To be able to marry the Duke of Evander! Any woman would feel this way!"
