The child of evil didn't have a physical body in the past. He was a shroud who lived within the body of his chosen host; the reason it was hard to distinguish who was the child of evil from the surface. One of the many reasons I mistook Niall to be the child of evil was that I felt it inside him. 

I sensed that familiar prowess, albeit faint, but I never felt it from Azazel. It was a mistake. I was too complacent and made a grave mistake, letting Azazel lurk around me freely. 

I should've known how cunning he could be. That everything… ever since the wolf entered the mortal realm and the creation of the child of evil, lies became the truth and the truth — the multiple truths distorted over time. Not everything on the surface was what it looked like.
