Capítulo 33: Mission

The lady who walked into Detective Isengard's office was about twenty-five or twenty-six years old. She wore a long red dress, and her skin was fair and smooth. She had a voluptuous figure, and her black hair was like a waterfall. Her blue eyes were filled with charm, making her look very seductive.

As Detective Isengard happened to be absent, the servants at home brought the lady to Ebner's office in a daze.

When he first saw the lady's appearance, Ebner was slightly taken aback. However, as someone who had seen much in the information age, he quickly returned to normal and politely greeted, "Hello, ma'am. I'm Detective Stanton's apprentice and assistant, Ebner. Detective Stanton is not back yet. If you have any requests, you can come back at 11 o'clock."

The lady narrowed her eyes and smiled. Although it was just a simple action, it was very eye-catching. She looked at Ebner slowly and said in a pleasant voice, "I'm actually here to look for you, Mr. Bryan. You're already a famous detective nearby. I have some small matters to entrust to you."

Ebner was a little surprised. Although he was a little famous, the people who came to him for work were actually those who were poor and wanted to make money. The clothes and accessories on the lady in front of him were very expensive. She did not look like someone who could not afford to hire a teacher.

However, since someone was here to deliver the money, Ebner wouldn't refuse. He first brought the lady to the guest area and sat down before asking, "Ma'am, I'm honored to receive your recognition. May I know how I can help you?"

"Detective Bryan, just call me Ray." After the lady named Ray gave her name, she continued, "I wish to entrust you with investigating the interests and habits of these gentlemen. The more detailed, the better."

As she spoke, she took out a folded letter from her bag and placed it on the coffee table in front of the sofa.

Ebner bowed, then unfolded the letter and read the name on it carefully.

"Lord Natos, Viscount Kanslake, Baron Gramir, Baron New Glass…"

"There are 12 of them, and all of them are single men… Good lord is this lady going to build a fish pond?!" Ebner's eyes twitched, and he subconsciously complained in his heart. Then, he recalled the information about these nobles in his teacher's information, and he gradually had an idea. However, he still pretended to be troubled and frowned slightly. "This commission isn't complicated, but it's very cumbersome. It requires a long period of time and a large number of helpers to complete."

"I understand. I'll pay you a satisfactory price." Ms. Ray nodded slightly and then winked at Ebner, giving him sufficient hints.

Ebner ignored this and pondered for a moment before saying,

"20 pounds. This matter involves the nobles, so I have to bear certain risks. Therefore, the price for this commission is 20 pounds! In addition, you have to give me at least a week."

In fact, most of what this lady wanted was in the teacher's database. At most, it was a little outdated. He just needed to confirm it again.

"This price is very reasonable. I accept it! Yes, I can pay you five pounds in advance. I'll come again on Friday. If there's any progress, I'll pay you another five pounds. The rest will be given to you after everything is completed!" Ms. Ray appeared rather wealthy and didn't bargain at all.

"Then let's sign the contract!" Ebner took out the contract and signed it before handing it to Ms. Ray.

The other party signed without even looking.

After escorting Ms. Ray out the door and patting the still-dazed footman awake, Ebner returned to his office to reassess the commission. It was his habit and the need to play the role of the Adviser Cadet.

"On the surface, it seems like Ms. Ray is just a social butterfly who selects high-quality men. This is more compatible with her clothes, temperament, and the content of the commission. But she always gives me a sense of danger and contradiction! In addition, there are also some problems with the list of male nobles she provides… Although they are all single, their conditions don't seem to be very good. According to the teacher's information, these people are either down and out, their financial situation is not optimistic, or they have offended the power-holders and temporarily lost their power… In short, these are people who have a certain status but have no noble substance!"

"And the reason why Ms. Ray chose these targets might be because these people were pretending to be bright and beautiful and deceived her. But this possibility is very low. That lady is obviously not easy to deal with. And even if one or two of her acting skills deceived her, not everyone would be like this! Well, the second possibility is that these people were carefully picked out by Ms. Ray. Falling from grace is her goal!"

But what's the point of her choice? She's rich, so she wants to find a man with status but is in dire straits to raise her social status? That's possible, but this kind of lady is the target of many nobles. There's no need to find a detective to gather information. As long as she attends a ball, she'll fall for it… Unless her money comes from a shady background!

"The other possibility is that she wants to use this type of man to achieve her goals. For example, using him as a springboard to climb higher. Or… Eh? This Baron Gramir seems to have appeared in novels before!"

Halfway through his deduction, Ebner suddenly narrowed his eyes. He silently activated the pure white eye and recalled the content in the Lord of the Mysteries. He immediately had a new idea.

Baron Gramir turns out to be the unlucky fool who will be replaced by Vice Admiral Hurricane Qilangos in the future… From the looks of it, the nobles on the list have another similarity. They didn't hire any Beyonder bodyguards!

"So, Madam Ray is choosing a suitable target for Qilangos to disguise himself? Yes, after Qilangos replaced that unlucky fool, he quickly grasped his habits, hobbies, and personality. This is obviously information that someone gave him in advance. And such private information can only be obtained by beauties close to Baron Gramir…"

At this point, Ebner had roughly figured out the sequence of events. As long as he had one or two more pieces of evidence to support his theory, he would be able to confirm it.

Heh, now that I think about it, that Ma'am Ray might not necessarily be a real beauty! One has to know that Qilangos's actions were instigated by an organization whose name can't be mentioned. That organization and the Demoness Church are considered allies in Loen's series of events. Furthermore, after Qilangos's death, his pirate fleet was taken over by the Demoness Church… In that case, it's reasonable to send a Demoness to gather information in advance!

Thinking of this, Ebner had a headache. He pitied the valet who still looked like he had lost his soul.

"It's better for me to pretend not to know about this matter. This matter involves the ancient sun god. As long as she doesn't provoke me, there's no need for me to deliberately ruin things. With the interference of the 'writer', this matter might not necessarily be ruined… Besides, there aren't any good people among the nobles on the list. Apart from a few who are good people who won't lose out even if they die."

After making up his mind, Ebner did not immediately compile the information. Instead, he prepared to change his reasoning logic slightly and discuss it with his teacher. He had to be wary of others. Ebner did not trust a Demoness at all. He had to be prepared for any sudden accidents.

After Ray came out of the detective agency, an interested smile appeared on his face as he muttered to himself, "What an interesting little detective. He can actually ignore my charm! Humph, sooner or later, I'll make you drown in pleasure!" Then, she boarded a carriage that had long stopped by the side of the road.

There was already someone waiting in the carriage. It was a young lady with a pure face and literary temperament.

At this moment, seeing that Ray had returned to the car, the young lady bowed slightly and asked curiously, "Lord Ray, we can easily gather such shallow intelligence. Why did you spend money to commission a detective to do it?"

"Because this is more natural and more in line with our identities. Even if the official Beyonders investigate, there won't be much suspicion. They will only think that I'm a mistress who's good at finding opportunities. And if we miss this step, it won't be able to explain why we are so familiar with the habits of a noble and can easily meet him. This way, as long as we are investigated, it will easily become suspicious," Miss Ray explained with a smile.

"But aren't those nobles so downtrodden that they don't have any Beyonder bodyguards? Why would they attract an official investigation?" The young lady was still puzzled.

"Just in case. And on the surface, the downfall might not be real. We have to find a way to deal with an accident." Ray shook her head and pointed at the young lady. "Lena, you're just too careless. You actually didn't guard against your own development personnel at all. Now that the other party has fallen into the hands of the officials, they even confessed to you. If I hadn't been with you before, you would have been ambushed by the official team in that loan shark gang!"

"I didn't expect Turner to be such a good-for-nothing. He can even mess up the business of selling people," Lena said dejectedly.

"Have you looked into how the man you've developed has been exposed? Not to avenge him, but to be sure," Ray asked.

"I didn't find out what exactly happened… But before Turner's accident, a bounty hunter had investigated the loan sharks. Perhaps she was involved in Turner's arrest. I was planning on investigating her. By the way, that bounty hunter seems to be quite famous in East Borough. Her name is Xio."
