Capítulo 49: Chapter 49

When Liam poked his head around the cracked door way, Celeste immediately felt all the tension that had built up inside of her melt away to the point that her body almost became limp.

"Oh. You're still awake." He commented when he noticed that his friend was staring at him. He had expected her to be asleep already with how late it was. He was going to say something else when a pillow suddenly and unexpectedly smacked him in the face.

"You scared me!" Celeste exclaimed as she got ready to hurl a second pillow at him. They were soft and fluffy enough that she knew there was no risk of actually hurting him by her actions.

"Sorry." He apologized with a laugh as he picked up the pillow and opened the door further so that he could step inside to pick up the other projectile that had been launched at him.

Celeste noticed when he came into the room that he looked less formal than he had before. The top two buttons on his undershirt were undone and the tie around his neck had been loosened. His hair was also less organized than it had been before.

"How do you even have a key to this room?" she interrogated. The fact that her friend managed to get in her room unannounced brought back all of the nervous feelings that she had been suffering from before.

"Oh. That's because this hotel is used by the company so often that a duplicate set of keys were made for each room." Her friend explained as he had handed her back her pillows.

"Having a duplicate set of keys help us to be able to come and go when keeping an eye on clients and also decreases the risk of ever getting locked out of a room"

"You never mentioned any of this before to me." Celeste grumbled. Her mood had been dampened by what had just occurred. Not feeling like giving her friend too much attention, she returned her focus back to her phone and the conversation she was having with the stranger. At least he hadn't done anything horrible like what Liam had just done.

"It probably slipped my mind to be honest. Plus, most of the clients that come here aren't usually sober like you so there isn't really a reason to explain to them why we have a copy of the key." He scratched the back of his as he explained this.

He felt guilty as he had originally come to check and make sure that his friend was doing okay since he know how agitated she had been about something before she left the club. instead, he ended up adding to whatever it was that was bothering.

"It would've been nice to know beforehand, but I understand that it isn't a big deal since I won't be coming around the club you work at all that often." Celeste was already writing a reply to Lucifer as she continued her conversation with Liam.

"Well if you ever do decide to come by again, next time you will know ahead of time so that you can make the best arrangements." He ruffled Celeste's head when he said this causing her to swat his hand away. He knew that it was one of the things that she hated the most. He couldn't help but doing it because he loved giving her a hard time.

"If there isn't anything else that you need from me, I will go ahead and leave for the night. Think about going to sleep soon with how late it is getting. I end up sleeping in this hotel most night as well so if you need anything I will be right down the hall from you." Liam was getting ready to turn and leave with a yawn when the white slip of paper on the night stand had caught his attention.

"What is this?" He asked picking up the scrap of paper and giving it a good look over. He thought that it must have been some kind of business card or other until he realized that there were only two numbers written on it.

"The driver gave it to me before I left." Celeste replied as she peeked over the top of her phone to see what the other was looking at. Upon hearing this, Liam suddenly became very quiet and the expression on his face had darkened.

"You didn't try to call either one of them, right?" He looked over at the other with such a serious expression that one might believe if it a life or death situation.

"I called the top one, but no one answered and I didn't bother to leave a message." Celeste replied, putting her phone back down when Lucifer didn't respond right away.

"I'm not exactly sure why he gave this to you, but this isn't something that you should be having your hands on." Liam told her as bunched up the piece of paper and put into his pocket.

"It's a part of some scam line to get people to either leave their jobs and come work for them or convince them to donate money." That was a huge lie, but it was one that he hoped his friend wouldn't be able to see through.

"I haven't heard that there has been such a scam going around before." She admitted.

"It's highly unlikely that you would have heard anything about it, it has mostly been targeting businesses such as the one that I'm working in." he explained.

"Don't think too much on it though, it really is about time for both of us to retire for the night." He told his friend once again. This time he really did intend to leave the room without getting distracted by anything else. Not before he had one solid look around the place to make sure there wasn't anything else odd that he might have missed.

"Since it is the club's hotel room just text me when you're away tomorrow and I can arrange things to be able to take you home." Celeste simply nodded and thanked the other before he left the room.

She didn't know if she felt better or worse after Liam had left the room. She was glad to know that he had been the one trying to get into her room. A part of her was worried however by the strange behavior and expression on his face when he noticed the piece of paper that she had been given.

Was it possible that he knew who Bane was as well?
