For one second, everyone was quiet and didn't know what to do.
But Laura looked even more anxious, "Dr. Sharp, what about Kevin? He's in danger... "
Chloe had heard this name so many times recently that she already felt numb. Therefore, she turned around and walked away without saying anything.
Later in the afternoon, she went to Nancy's office.
Nancy was busy with her work. But when she saw Chloe come in, she put down the pen and took her to the sofa.
"Chloe, what happened? Can I help you?" Nancy got a glass of water for Chloe.
Chloe took a sip and answered, "I'm worried about Kevin. I had a fever last night. So I can't donate my bone marrow right now. But Kevin... can you give me some medicine to help me get better soon?"
With a serious look, Nancy took Chloe's temperature, "Well, you are still a little bit feverish. I can give you some medicine. But... if you want to get better quickly, how about an injection?"
Chloe nodded. She needed to recover as soon as possible.
Nancy was really considerate and helpful. She asked Chloe to wait for her in the Injection & Transfusion Room. Several minutes later, Nancy walked in with a medical tray.
But as Chloe saw the needle, she subconsciously wanted to refuse and run away.
"Chloe, what's wrong? Not feeling well?" Nancy looked at Chloe with puzzled eyes.
But as Chloe saw that needle, she noticed something weird. That injector had been used since it's not packed in a vacuum bag.
Who used it? Why did Nancy make such an unprofessional mistake?
"Nancy, this injector was used," Chloe said it loud.
Fear crossed Nancy's eyes. She was too careless.
"I'm sorry. I'm too busy recently. You know, for your brother." Nancy apologized and picked up the medical tray at once, "I'm really sorry, Chloe. Don't tell anyone. I will get a new one for you."
Chloe nodded, "Don't worry, Nancy. I won't tell anyone. By the way, I forgot to take my phone this morning. Can I borrow yours?"
Nancy was still worried about the injector that she didn't really think about it. So she handed her phone to Chloe at once.
"The password is 0526."
0526? Was this a date? What's special about it?
Oh, Chloe remembered that Daniel bought his first car with the money he earned, which meant a lot to him.
So Nancy's password was set due to Daniel? So she must really like him very much.
When Nancy came back, Daniel was with her.
"Nancy, this one is new, right? No more mistakes?" Chloe stared at the injector and asked. Somehow she thought Nancy did it on purpose.
"No more mistakes." Nancy smiled. But she was disappointed in secret. She wanted to do something, but she had no chance since Daniel saw her and followed her to check on Chloe.
But she still had a chance.
"I happened to see Nancy and she said you are still having a fever?" Daniel approached, leaned over, and put his hand on Chloe's forehead.
His palm felt a little cold, which sent Chloe a feeling of electricity that triggered her whole body.
But someone was angry to see this scene.
"Ouch, Nancy, it hurts. Can you be gentle?" Chloe couldn't help but cower a bit while she was held down by Nancy.
"I'm trying to give you an injection. So you'd better not move. Stay here!" Nancy was still smiling, but Chloe felt scared by her gentle tone.
Chloe knew Nancy want to hurt her on purpose. But no one said that loud. The war was started in a quiet and fierce way.
After Nancy finished, she put away everything, "You can have a rest here. I shall leave now."
As Nancy left, Chloe unlocked the phone and saw the wallpaper, a wedding photo of Nancy and Daniel.
Chloe was stunned for a moment. How did the photo come? Daniel was willing to take a wedding photo with Nancy? Chloe doubted so.
Daniel turned to Chloe, seeming to be hesitating. Chloe put the phone away at once.
"What? Are you trying to say something?"
"Yes. I decide to donate my bone marrow to Kevin."
"What? Say that again?" Chloe couldn't believe her ears.
"I just did a bone marrow test. I'm quite surprised that I can donate my bone marrow to Kevin." Daniel explained calmly as if he were talking about a trivial matter.
"Do you know what you are talking about? Have you discussed it with Vicky?" Chloe was nearly losing her mind.
Daniel looked away, "I don't need their approval. I can make my own decision."
But why did he do that? It could be dangerous for him as well. She canceled the engagement party and he didn't have any obligation to help them.
"Daniel, you don't have to do this. I will donate once I get better."
"Don't you want to save your brother?" Daniel asked instead of answering.
He was trying to help but why did she refuse it? Because she wanted to owe him nothing?
"Because if you do and anything happens to you, Jessica will certainly kill me when she comes back." Chloe found a lame excuse.
Daniel smiled, "You two are close friends. She won't do that."
Jessica was such a good friend. But she died a tragedy in her previous life.
However, Chloe swore to herself she would protect Jessica no matter what.
"Anyway, Jessica won't want to see you in danger. I'll call her now."
"No need!" Daniel stopped her and took the phone away, "Listen to me. Nothing will happen to me. Besides, I know Kevin and I don't want to see him dying. So... you can consider I do it for him."
But the next moment, Chloe covered her face and looked away.
She was crying...
Daniel didn't expect that and certainly didn't know what to do. But he wondered himself, was she crying for him?
He gave Chloe a hug and said gently, "I have signed the letter of consent of the surgery. But if you are willing, how about taking care of me after the surgery?"
Chloe stopped sobbing and looked at him with her red eyes wide open.
She seemed to own him more and more.

The surgery took nearly 6 hours and was successful in the end.
Laura looked at Vicky and Marlin and couldn't thank them enough.
"Laura, don't be. I just wish you had told us earlier. We are delighted to help." Vicky said.
Tears were streaming down Laura's face. "You are right. I was too worried."
As Daniel was pushed out by the nurse, Chloe followed them close to the ward.
Daniel looked so pale and vulnerable on the bed that Chloe's eyes got red again.
It should have been her instead of him.
She felt someone putting her hand on her shoulder. As she turned around, she saw Vicky.
"Don't worry, Chloe. The doctor said the operation was a success. He will be fine."
Chloe didn't say anything but nodded slightly.
"Chloe, I know you must be angry about your mom," Vicky sat down and comforted, "But she doesn't want this either. You should know being a stepmother is never easy. Sometimes, she has to consider Kevin more.
"I know it's not fair to you. But maybe she thinks she can be hard on you since she knows you will never be really mad at her. This sense of safety only happens between the closest ones. Besides, I have pointed out her mistake to her."
Chloe lowered her head, tears welling up in her eyes.
"Sweetie, I'm so sorry. I'll stop now."
Vicky wiped away Chloe's tears gently, patting her in a loving way.
"I know what you mean. But that's not the case. She has been horrible to me recently."
Chloe still remembered that Laura kicked her out from her home and never visited her once in the hospital.
Vicky sighed, glancing at Daniel who was still asleep, "Things will get better. You will find someone who really loves you and cares about you."
At this moment, they heard someone was coughing.
