After graduation, he had to pack up and return home to live with his grandmother. As he had anticipated, Scott, Chris, and Alicia eventually moved in together without him. He didn’t mind at all because he was feeling guilty about having to hide his burgeoning magical powers from his best friend.

Scott and he had always told each other everything. There were no secrets between them, until now. This magical stuff was the first thing he couldn’t be truthful about to his best friend, because his grandmother had expressly forbidden him from revealing it. The less Scott knew, the safer his best friend would be in the long run. It had been difficult enough trying to explain to Scott about his weird outburst when his power manifested the first time. In the end, he claimed he was probably hallucinating from the exhaustion of studying late for several nights in a row.
