“Oh, my. He is handsome,” Claire, a mink
clad grandmother of seven said as Roderick approached, and then she
looked at Alex and asked. “Do you know him?”
Alex was unsure whether it was best to flee
the area, or to staunchly support the claim that he had never met
Roderick in his life. “We um,…well, we…,” he stumbled.
“We spent a wonderful night together, and he
forgot to leave me his number,” Roderick said, smiling as he
approached the group.
“Well, that wasn’t nice, Alex,” Madge, a
grey-haired woman in a jogging suit scolded.
“I’ve done that to men a hundred times,”
Claire said.
“Well, that’s no mystery,” Stella said,
smiling a big smile and blowing a kiss to Claire.
“When you’re in a town this size, you don’t
always want to run into people,” Claire said, blowing a kiss back
to Stella. “As I’m sure you know.”
“Exactly,” Alex agreed.
Roderick turned and looked at him, and
asked, “So I was just some one night stand to you?”
