Capítulo 47: 47: Immortal Being

Trojan kept his aim steady and pressed the trigger of the crossbow, letting the arrow fly. He prayed that the arrow hit its mark.

In the air, hung Domino and Ash.

The arrow hit Ash from behind, impaling her through the gut.

Trojan saw as Ash slipped from Domino's grasp, falling down towards the flaming Palace.

Trojan hurriedly reloaded the Crossbow, pulling the string back and resetting the shot. He loaded in an arrow and pointed it at Domino himself.

Trojan knew there was probably a story behind why Domino did what he did, but Trojan did not want to know about it.

Domino watched as Ash fell into the blaze of the Palace. Domino then turned around to face Trojan, who was already aiming the crossbow at him.

Trojan released the shot.

Domino hung in the air, an arrow through his chest as he looked at Trojan. Even from a distance, Domino looked at Trojan.

Domino looked like he was on the verge of tears, as if the pain he felt was nothing to what he felt when he lost Ash.

Domino waved his staff, and Trojan found himself face to face with a fire spell.

However, at the last minute, the fire spell diverted from its path.

Domino was devastated. He felt the pain in his chest from the arrow, but there was something much deeper that hurt him. He saw as Ash fell, falling towards certain death.

His companion for years, they had schemed for this single moment. Somehow, not fulfilling the plan was not as painful, but losing her was the most damaging.

But Trojan has helped him too. Despite his intention to betray Trojan, he genuinely felt loyalty towards him. Domino reached out to Trojan after he diverted his own spell.

"I… I don't know anymore…" Domino whispered.

Trojan, as if hit by an invisible force, fell onto his knees, blood trickling out of his nose.

The temperature, especially around where Trojan stood, was too high.

Trojan tried to get himself to the centre of the plaza, he tried to get to the carriage.

Domino covered his face with his left hand, trying to figure out what he was suppose to do. Everything was over, his plan failed, he lost everyone he knew.

He started losing strength.

Domino did not pull the arrow out of his chest, knowing that once he did, he was going to die.

He felt a weight on his shoulders.

Domino looked back, and Ash hung onto him, having used the last of her energy to teleport herself to him.

"Let's… finish this…" Ash whispered.

Domino looked at the arrow once again and shook his head.

"We're finished," Domino told her. "We already failed."

"Why?" Ash asked, her voice so soft and on the verge of breaking.

Domino let go of his staff, letting it fall into the burning Palace.

"The baby inside of you has already passed away," Domino told her. "We cannot materialise the Phoenix."

Ash's breath was slowing down, and her body was starting to become cold.

"But… we've come so far…" Ash whispered.

"Yes, we have," Domino confirmed. "But it doesn't really matter anymore."

Domino reached towards the arrow, grabbing it. Ash went limp, Domino pulled the arrow out and let himself fall, the two of them falling towards the burning Palace where the Royal Family had died.

Trojan saw the two of them fall, and knew that he had accomplished his goal. He needed to run away, he needed to get to the carriage at least.

Trojan needed to get out.

He was going to be with Emilia, they were going to live a happier life from what they lived before. A simple peasant life with a child.

They were going to be happy without having to worry too much of the complicated things in life.

Kids, Trojan wanted kids. Maybe three or four kids would be nice. Enough kids to all live happily together.

Trojan's nosebleed would not stop, and the monsters in the distance became closer and closer.

Trojan got onto his feet shakily, but his leg buckled under him. He laid on the ground, staring into the night sky.

He was going to finally have a happy life.

He could not move any longer, and Trojan knew that no help was coming for him. Around him was the burning city, dead bodies littered the streets and burnt in the buildings.

Not a single person was left alive in Inner City.

Trojan reached out to the sky, trying to beg for help, but what was there to beg? Trojan was all alone anyways.

He saw it.

Above him, the flames seemed to gather and form some sort of shape. He recognised it, the shape of a bird.

First it's beak, then it's outstretched wings, then it's torso. Everything was made of flames. The bird opened its eyes which were a dark shade of red. It flapped its wings once, letting out a sharp cry as it flew into the air.

The bird, with both wings outstretched, likely covered the entirety of Inner City.

The Phoenix.

The Phoenix's tail formed, five long feathers. It's legs formed as well, strong legs like any other bird.

The Phoenix hung in the sky, looking over the entirety of Inner City.

Trojan looked at it, his eyelids already closing.

Everything was going to be okay.

The Phoenix spread its wings, lighting up the night sky. It was almost as if it was day time, but the moon was out.

The flying monsters halted in their tracks when they saw the Phoenix. They all screeched in unison and flew as fast as they could towards it.

In an instant, the monsters became skeletons of their initial selves and fell to the ground, shattering.

The Phoenix flapped it's wings once again and flew further into the sky. It let out another long screech.

It flew South, rather, it looked South.

Emilia looked behind the carriage, the horses having passed away from the heat. She started running away, having barely made it out of Inner City before the Phoenix appeared.

She held back tears for what she feared may have happened to Trojan.

The Phoenix let out a sharp screech, making Emilia cover her ears as she continued running.

The Phoenix became smaller in size and flew towards Emilia, shrinking as it flew towards her.

Emilia glanced behind her, and the Phoenix was right upon her.

She did not slow down, but she was hit by the Phoenix.

Emilia stumbled forward and fell. She got up, looking around, her heart beating fast.

The only thing in sight was the burning city in front of her.

Emilia looked around her for the Phoenix, not seeing it anywhere.

She then looked at herself, realising the growing stomach of hers. She started to tear up from the pain.

"Sorry…" Emilia said softly, more to Trojan than anything else.

Emilia, Letha L. Emilia, later known as Letha L. Trojan, burnt on the spot.

The fire did not hurt her, but she knew she was going to die. Her eyelids fell, and she laid on the ground, her body burning.

The Purge of Ether saw the most deaths in human history.

The rebellion saw over 50 000 people. The residents of Inner City that did not join the rebellion numbered 1 020 000. The army of Duke Phoenix numbered 20 000. The army of the Royal Family numbered 30 000. The defence team of Ether numbered 60 000.

An event that saw so much bloodshed and killing and atrocities that it was never penned down in history.

During an event where hundreds of thousands of lives were lost, a single life was born.

From the burning corpse of Emilia, appeared someone of similar age to Emilia herself.

She had nothing on her, no clothes, no name, no memory.

She could only look around her and register what was happening.

The Phoenix materialises when there is a fire. There has to be enough death. Furthermore, there needs to be someone who was pregnant.

In exchange for all those lives, a single life was created from the corpse of the 'mother'.

The Phoenix invades the womb and kills the baby, taking its place. The mother will not be able to live with a Phoenix inside, and would burn.

From her corpse, appears a person.

The girl stood up, looking around her. She had long brown hair and brown eyes. She looked around her, then back at the burning city.

She tilted her head before walking away.

She tripped on a rock, not used to walking. She fell down and scraped her arms and legs on several rocks.

She simply got up, feeling the pain. She watched as her wounds started closing at an incredible pace.

In exchange for hundreds of thousands of lives, in exchange for such atrocities, a single life was made, an eternal life.

Enter the Immortal Wanderer.

The girl looked around, finally finding her voice. She did not know why she was able to speak, she just was.

She looked back at the burning city.

"Who am I?"
