"Everything set?" asked Sven to the 4 behind him.
Harrold gave him an 'all ok' signal as he sat down wearing a metal device with a few metal wires digging into the ground.
"I will now signal Alvin to trigger the trap. We will begin shortly" said Sven.
The other 3 nodded. Sven pulled out a watch, and clicked a button.
"The signal has been sent out. Monitor the surroundings carefully for now" said Sven.
After a while, they heard a beeping sound from somewhere.
"There seems to be a signal. Where is it coming from?" asked Sven shooting to his feet.
"Well, it's strange. It's coming from underground, in that direction" said Harrold.
"That direction is approximately where the secret tunnel into the gunpowder cache is" muttered Fred suspiciously.
"Is it possible that the person who dug the tunnel to steal the gunpowder is coming back for more? Perhaps we can catch him" said Luca excitedly.
"Indeed. Should we go and ambush them in the tunnel? We have plenty of means to fight in tunnels after all. I doubt they will too" said Harry.
"But what about Alvin? All our analysis indicates that the members hired by the factory still don't know about the tunnel. If we go after the guys in the tunnel, Alvin may be left to face the Beyonders that come on his own" said Fred worriedly.
Just as Sven was about to reply, a voice crackled over on the handheld radio, "Leave him be for now. Your top priority is to catch the maniac who might be out to harm the family members of the Machinery Hivemind. Attack the tunnel"
The unit of Beyonders from the Machinery Hivemind hesitated, but eventually, Sven gritted his teeth, and said, "Yes sir. We will attack the tunnel"
Back in the secret room, Blondie and Alvin were exchanging blows back and forth. Blondie seemed to be a Sequence 8 Barbarian. He did not attempt to give Alvin any Bribes to weaken him, but did try and manipulate the Law and Order of the natural state of things to trouble him. But as an outstanding Hunter, Alvin quickly adapted to whatever was thrown at him.
Alvin kept provoking the opponent to make him lose focus, but deliberately suppressed his powers as a Pyromaniac, and thus fell into a small disadvantage.
After another series of blows, both of them backed away from each other as they caught their breaths.
Suddenly, they felt a familiar wave of electricity running through their spirit. Sure enough, when they turned around, they saw that the Goatee had gotten up. All his wounds seemed to have faded, including the nasty one on his forehead after he was hit with the heavy porcelain vase. His eyes were a little crazy, and the red ring on his finger was shining. Alvin figured that the ring was a mystical item that could restore health in exchange for rationality.
Alvin and Blonde pulled out their revolvers and fired at Goatee. He did not dodge, instead taking them all with his body. Bullet wounds appeared all over him, but he ignored them as he ran towards Alvin. And the wounds were also being healed over time.
Alvin suppressed his Provoker powers as much as possible, and ran around the room trying to lose him, throwing obstacles at him. This time, he didn't block them, instead barreling right through most and sidestepping the heavier ones.
Alvin noticed that while his fighting instinct was still present, he used the most direct solution for everything instead of using the best solution. Hence Alvin clambered onto a shelf and jumped onto a chandelier. Sure enough, the delirious Goatee started jumping up and down under the chandelier trying to catch Alvin. Alvin for his part, started building up and down, in and out of his reach to keep him occupied.
Blondie, whom Alvin identified as a seasoned veteran in fighting, did not disappoint Alvin. He sneaked behind Goatee, and hoisted him upright up onto his shoulder. Alvin jumped off the chandelier and drop kicked Goatee, who Blondie then proceeded to slam headfirst onto the floor.
Goatee collapsed, but the red light in the ring kept shining, indicating that he was still being healed.
After exchanging a quick look, Alvin and Blondie tactically went up to the fallen Goatee, picked him up with one holding his neck and the other his feet, and slammed him towards the ground several times. Alvin then pulled out his knife and cleaved off the finger with the ring, which Blondie kicked across the room. Goatee was still alive, but barely so.
As Blondie and Alvin stared at each other, contemplating their options, they heard loud clacks. Alvin instantly recognised those as the doors of the factory. To prevent too much oxygen from getting in, there were very few windows, and that too high up. If all the doors were closed, there would be no easy way to get out of the factory.
Alvin was a little confused, because according to plan, the Machinery Hiveminds were supposed to ambush the coming Beyonders outside the factory, and except the one guy already in here, he wasn't supposed to be fighting anyone else. Blondie was an accident who didn't count. But the shutting gates indicated not only were they not stopped, but based on multiple gates shutting at the same time, were multiple people now in the factory and they probably were planning to trap the intruder in the factory, and presumably capture or kill him.
Brains whirring fast, Alvin opened the door of the room and peeked inside the hallway. He saw a majestic looking figure standing at the end of the hallway. Immediately, his danger senses went off, and he shut the door with all his strength.
With an audible thump, a clearly visible outline of a fist appeared on the think bronze door. Then, amidst more thumping sounds, the door started to shake. Alvin knew that it was only a matter of time before the door swung open, so he had to think of a plan fast.
Suddenly, he turned towards the secret passage to the room filled with gunpowder.
