The palace was in chaos.
"Did you hear?"
"The Duke Salvador is coming."
"Who will he meet?"
All the whispers surrounded Cassandra and Amy as they walked through the corridor. Even though many days have passed since the incident, Amy still was a little frightened.
"Princess …" Amy whispered under her breath. After knowing that Duke Salvador danced with Princess Cassandra, Amy had become more sensitive towards the rumors.
"I want to eat some fruit, Amy. Bring it in my room." Cassandra waved as she entered the room.
As soon as the door was shut, Cassandra walked towards the window.
The wind was blowing as chirping of birds could be heard. Cassandra looked outside but she could not see anything. She took a deep breath to control her unstable heart as Cassandra asked in a low voice. "Since how long is the Duke planning to stand outside?"
Aiden walked inside the room through the window as he smirked. "How did the Princess know I was outside?"
Cassandra was silent as she looked at the man that entered. The red eyes looked at her with interest.
Cassandra did not know how to reply. Was she supposed to tell him that his people gave his position away?
Cassandra could hear Duke Salvador's subordinates' voices when she was walking in the corridor.
[How long is the Duke going to wait?]
[He shouldn't be outside the window.]
[That too outside the fifth Princess's room.]
Aiden walked into the room as if he owned the place. His eyes scanning the spacious room. He could tell that the name given to the Princess was justified. She truly was unfavored.
Aiden sat on a chair kept at the corner as he looked at Cassandra who was lost in thoughts.
"What? Are you not going to serve your guest." Aiden laughed as he saw Cassandra eyes widened.
"Duke Salvador should not be here. Coming into a Princess room is prohibited." Cassandra took a step back in fear that if someone heard them then Princess Valeria would not think twice before taking an action against her.
"The Emperor himself had given me permission to meet the Princess I danced with. Are you trying to rebel against the order of the Emperor?" Aiden asked as he tapped his fingers on the chair.
Cassandra looked at him with wide eyes. "The Emperor did not give his permission to enter the room." Cassandra murmured.
"Should I officially ask to meet you then? I wouldn't mind that if you are okay?" Aiden smirked as he saw Cassandra's eyes widened.
Cassandra's mind was full of worry. She did not know what she was supposed to do. Even though others did not know what had happened, Cassandra knew. She had listened to the thoughts of Princess Valeria's guards.
If a Princess could burn her loyal servants down just because she was angry what would happen if Princess Valeria knew that the Duke had come here into Cassandra's room.
Cassandra feared for her life. She could not understand the reason why the Duke was here.
"I heard that some bodies were buried here. And there was a witness." Cassandra flinched at Aiden's words. Her heart beats were running wild.
Aiden raised his eyebrows as his voice turned low, "I can have a guess about who that might be."
Aiden looked at Cassandra's change in expression. He could sense that his doubts were true.
Cassandra's mind did not work. She was confused as to how the Duke knew.
'Does the Duke know it was Amy?'
'No that is not possible.'
'I did not hear any thoughts of the guards.'
'Thus that means the Duke has people watching us.'
"What is troubling the Princess? Are you curious about how I know this?" Aiden moved near Cassandra as he looked into her eyes. His fingers wanted to touch her hairs that were touching Cassandra's cheeks, but Aiden restricted himself.
'He is too close.'
Cassandra breaths hitched as she took a step back subconsciously but she was nowhere to go.
"Duke should go now. Someone might come." Cassandra said in a whisper.
"Princess' words indicate that we are having some secret affair." Aiden's lips curled up as his eyes shined with mischief. "I want to know what would happen if others knew I was here."
"Princess!!" Duke Salvador said but his mouth was closed by a small hand. An intoxicating scent spread through his body as he saw panic in the fifth Princess's gaze.
Cassandra's whole body was filled with fear. 'What if someone hears the Duke?'
'Will she be able to survive?'
In the midst of all those thoughts Cassandra did not think about anything else but she placed her hand over Duke Salvador's mouth.
"Be quiet." Cassandra whispered unknown that the Duke was looking at her with a gaze full of curiosity.
"Princess .." Amy's voice came from outside as she could not enter the room. "I got some fruit for you."
Cassandra's heartbeats were faster as she pushed Duke Salvador outside the window in a hurry.
"Please .." Cassandra's voice trembled.
"I will come to meet you again." With these words the Duke disappeared in the woods.
Cassandra breathed a sigh of relief. Amy was still waiting outside, unable to understand why the Princess was not opening the door.
[Why is the princess not opening the door?]
[Did something happen to her?]
[Should I call the guards to break the door?]
[I am worried ..]
Cassandra opened the door only to look at Amy's worried face. Amy came into the room and looked at her master to see if she was hurt.
"Princess .."
"You brought the fruits. Let me eat, I am hungry." Cassandra said as she eat the fruits brought by Amy.
Amy felt something was wrong. Princess Cassandra had never asked her to get fruits in such a hurry.
[Was someone in the room?]
Cassandra choked on her food as she listened to Amy's thoughts. But before she could say anything a guard announced.
"All the Princesses are called into the garden."
