"But, ma'am, your salary is higher than most workers' average income; even our security is extremely loyal to you; not one of them has left for the past eight or more years now, and the number keeps increasing." She felt bitter about her boss' declaration. 

She knew she was working hard for her money, and so was everyone else. 

Averna shook her head, smiling to herself at how she had managed to make a positive side of her words. "I was just toying with you." 

In that sentence, Eileen's glare transformed into a grin. She still couldn't help but marvel at this woman's sense of humor. Finally, the familiar warmth she had come to enjoy while working with Averna hit full force.

A satisfying smile made its way to her lips.

'How could I be so stupid as to worry about what she had to say? My fear was irrelevant.' Eileen shook her head at how foolish she suddenly felt for getting worked up for nothing.
