Capítulo 55: [Ch. 55] The Prophet Speaks (Past)

I repeated myself calmly, "In order to heal everyone here, I will need to drink Dragon blood."

"Alright." The older lady agreed. They all turned to her in surprise. Although I was also surprised, my face didn't show it. The lady continued, "We said we would do anything. But you must promise me one thing."

"Mmn."

"You must never tell anyone what happened, nor ever seek it out again."

"I understand."

The woman spoke in a serious tone, "Dragon blood is incredibly dangerous for people to consume. The effects are potent and very damaging to your health."

I nodded slightly, "Don't worry. I have no interest in it."

"I think you are underestimating the addictive nature of our blood."

I met her eyes with a serious expression, "You won't have to worry. I am not the type who cannot control themself."

The woman sighed, "Don't say I didn't warn you."

She grabbed some empty vials and cut her palm to let the black blood drip into the vial. She corked them and handed them to me.

I shook my head, "I may not be able to drink it. I will most likely be crippled in the process and will need help."

"Then I will help you." The younger shaman said, taking the vials.

I nodded at her and moved to the first one. It was a small boy with wounds across his body. I placed my hands over his body and closed my eyes. A white light started to shine underneath my hands. Soon, my mind was transported into his.

The boy sat looking at a single flower moving slightly in the breeze. Other than this single flower, the rest of the plants and trees surrounding him were dead and barren.

I bent down to him, "Do you like this flower?"

He turned to me with an empty look, "Flower?"

I nodded with a gentle smile, "There are more flowers elsewhere. Would you like me to take you to them?"

I stretched out my hand and he looked at it unsure. "But that world is scary and painful."

"Not with me there."

"...Will you show me more flowers?"

"Of course."

He grinned and took my hand.

My eyes opened up as I found my way back to my own body. I felt my stomach clench and convulse painfully until I coughed up blood. I could feel my insides twist as I forced myself to keep healing the boy. My numb arms dropped after I finally finished. The young shaman quickly dumped a vial in my mouth.

I gagged on the metallic-tasting blood but somehow managed to swallow it all down. I wiped my face feeling my strength quickly return. As my body processed the blood, I quickly understood why it was addictive. I could feel the power rushing through my veins.

I felt invincible.

"Well?" The older shaman asked.

"He is fine. But he will forever have a childlike mind."

I moved to the man with purple spots. As I began to heal him, I was relieved to know his soul wasn't shattered. However, his mind had been destroyed. I could feel the unfamiliar poison coursing through his veins. It was undoubtedly what was causing the purple spots to appear.

It must be a new torture technique they were testing. The only way to reverse it was to absorb it into my body and then expel it. As I began to do it, my body shook with pain. I pushed through the pain that made my eyes fall back in their sockets.

If I gave in now, I wouldn't be able to fix him. I started to scream in agony as the purple spots appeared on my skin. It felt like someone was trying to shatter my head with a hammer. The young shaman went to help me, but the older shaman stopped her. She shook her head, "Give her time."

I grit my teeth to cease the screams wanting to pour out of my mouth. I have gone through worse pain. This is nothing.

I felt the rest of the poison leave his body and go into mine. One shaman held me down as my body convulsed from seizures while the other dumped the vial into my mouth. I regained consciousness only to see their worried faces.

I sat up and wiped at my sweaty brow. My fingers and toes felt like thousands of needles were being stabbed into it, but I had three more to go. I spoke weakly, "His soul was fine, but he will most likely have bouts of pain as part of the trauma he endured. Once this happens, just make sure he is somewhere comfortable where he cannot hurt himself."

I moved on to the next individual who was an older gentleman missing a few of his limbs and an eye. He had fatal wounds that had grown infectious. I bent down and began to heal him. Once I finished, I kneeled over in pain and felt my eye burst with blood. I held onto it with numb limbs and let the young shaman feed me another vial. I recuperated silently and looked at the last two.

Their bodies were fine on the outside, but their souls had been shattered. The small girl wasn't as bad as the older girls, so I decided to do the smaller girl first since it would be less strenuous. I forced myself into her mind where I saw her in a ghost town that looked like the Phoenix nation.

The girl wearing a fox mask did a strange dance around me, "Ba Ba Ba!"

"Why are you dancing like that?"

The girl pointed to the sun and attempted to speak, but only babbles came out. I looked up to the sun in confusion. I turned back to the girl who began to move in a strange manner, almost as if she were writing something in the sand. I watched in surprise as the world around her began to melt. In its place, looming trees shot forth from the ground.

Usually, one's soul stays in a specific place. It doesn't change unless the person is a prophet. Prophets were incredibly rare in this society and were coveted by all of the nations.

A sudden phoenix came swooping down through the trees. I went to dodge it but was swallowed up. A burst of fire shot into the surroundings as if it was an explosion. I gasped for air through the thick smoke and quickly realized I was in a crater surrounded by flames. I saw the girl's hand stretch down to me. I grabbed it and was pulled up.

I shook my head, "I don't understand."

The girl only smiled through the fox mask and patted my hand in a comforting manner. Perhaps she was trying to tell me it would be all right?

I reopened my eyes to see the shamans looking down in concern. I sat up and winced. The young shaman held me, "Be careful. You are pushing your body too far."

I could feel the dragon blood swirling through my body. It shook, craving for more. I bit my lip to ignore it and crawled towards the last person. I paused before entering her mind, "If I repair her, she will be nothing more than a walking zombie. She will be incapable of taking care of herself and speaking. Are you sure that's what you want?"

The woman nodded with eyes full of begging, "It will not matter. We will love her the same."

I gave a nod and went to repair her soul. However, in her soul, there was only darkness. A bright white line lay beneath my feet. I was in the divide between life and death. It was something I had been researching for a while, but now I was finally able to see it.

I licked my lips with a wicked grin, "So that's how it is."

Now that I figured out the way to come here, I only need to figure out how to manipulate it.

However, I would have to wait a little longer before I could try. The longer I stayed here, the more dangerous it would be. I felt like my body was shattering with every step. As I searched through the darkness, I finally saw a small gem surrounded by light. I picked it up and continued to search for more gems. Once I collected them all, they began to fuse with each other.

I was forcibly ejected from her body and crashed onto the floor. The magic in my body began to attack it as if thinking it was an invading parasite. I writhed in pain as I realized I could no longer see or hear. I felt a disgusting liquid pour into my trembling mouth before a surge left me wanting more. Slowly, my eyesight and hearing returned. The young shaman helped me up, "How do you feel? We almost didn't make it in time."

I croaked out, "I'm fine. I just need to rest now."

The shaman nodded and motioned for the elder male to walk over. The man bent over and put my arm around his shoulder to support me, "We shouldn't have pushed you this much."

I shook my head, "It's okay. I've been through worse."

He led me out of the cave where Korph sat waiting. Korph rushed over to support me, "What happened? Are you okay?"

"Mmn."

I looked at his neck and noticed a vein taunting me. My body trembled in desire and I bit my lip to stop the urges. I didn't realize I bit so hard that my own blood dribbled down. He panicked, "Are you sure you're okay?"

I forced myself to look away, "Your people will live. They are okay now."

He let out a sigh, "That's not what I asked. I am very grateful that you saved them, but not if it was at the cost of your health. Don't forget you've been accepted here. You're one of us now."

I looked down to hide my downcast eyes, "Mmn."

One of them?...

...No. I was destined to be alone.

...

After I had recovered, Amanda and I stood on the beach wishing everyone a farewell. I released Mino's voice back to him, much to my displeasure. As soon as I released his voice, he tried to fight with me again.

Korph pouted, "Are you sure you can't stay longer?"

Amanda spoke on my behalf, "My Lady has some things to tend to back at her estate. Please have us over in the future. It was really a splendid time."

Mona smiled at her, "We will see you in a few days Miss Amanda."

I glanced at Raylon. He chuckled, "I will bring the wine that I owe you."

"Well then. I look forward to your visit." Amanda said bowing once more.

As we sailed away, we watched as everyone on the shore waved at us. I glanced into the cave and could see the injured individuals waving and smiling.
