CHAPTER 24

Catherine stood in front of the bathroom mirror and stared into her large, hazel eyes before scanning every inch of her reflection for any sign of imperfection. Behind her half-bare shoulders, her deep red hair flowed down the back of her gown. The lace at the top of the dress formed a V-neck, which dipped into and layered over the silky satin fitted closely against her torso. She feared a single deep breath would pop the cloth-covered buttons lining the back of it. The long sleeves covered her goosebumps, but outwardly, even in her emotionally heated state, she looked cool and breezy. All she had to do was think of Bowen, and she would be fine.

Mary popped her head in. “My girl, it’s nearly dusk. You ready?”
