Obstacle Race.

I spread out my trance across the stadium like a fishing net, gathering the audience's reactions.

"That's just like Haru-san! I expected nothing less from him!" Iida said excitedly.

Bakugo just tched in anger as Deku fell into deep thought wondering why I hadn't told him this.

Up in the stands, Mirko was grinning from ear to ear for some twisted reason, I deemed to unimportant to glean.

On the other end of the stadium, Endeavor was positively fuming with rage, his flames rippling outwards in ragged waves. His sidekicks were on task, frantically putting out the fires his anger had started.

In the guard room, Death Arms and the crew were getting stink eyed by Snatch and the rest of the heroes, as my speech had forced them to relive their recent and very public humiliation.

Inside, Mt.Lady crushed the takoyaki in her hands as she glared at the screen with seething hatred, while Kamui desperately tried to hold her back from rushing into the field and ripping me a new one. Or trying at least.

In the VIP seats overlooking the stadium, the sponsors and support company representatives looked on in worry, discussing whether this would lead to loss in the next terms revenues.

Beside them, the object of my interest sat ruminating on my words.

Nighteye almost couldn't believe that a student had the audacity to say such a thing in front of a nationwide audience, and he liked it!

Especially the part about a better, funner world.

Good for me. Not so much for my parents sitting in the middle rows.

Hearing my speech, my father almost dropped the camera. My mother was still shaken from my brazen declaration. But then again, they were simple poultry farmers.

Of course they didn't expect their reserved and obedient little boy to challenge the whole country to a fight!

Back at the podium, Midnight took the mic again, continuing the event.

"That was certainly ..odd. And full of twists. And very youthful~" She moaned.

Fucking weirdo.

"And with that, let's get started right away!"

"The first game is what you'd call a qualifier. Every year many drink their tears here! Now here is the fateful first game!" She said, as a screen holo-projected behind her, running a slot machine.

"This years, it's..... an obstacle race!" She said, without even looking back at the result.

It's obvious this was pre-planned. Why even bother with the slot machine thing if you're not gonna put in the effort?

"All 11 classes will take part in this race. The course will be the outer circumference of the stadium, about 4 kilometers. Our school's selling point is freedom." Midnight said, licking her lips.

"As long as you stay on course, it doesn't matter what you do. Now take your places everyone." She said pointing to the big red gate behind the students, as the three lights on it lit up green.

The students rushed to take their place in front of the gate, as the lights started to go out, one by one.

The atmosphere was tense, as everyone prepared to rush out full force.

Too bad none of them were going to move even a single inch.

I projected a pair of eyes on the perch of the gate, right below the lights, and another 2 pairs on the walls leading out the arena and behind the students, just in case.

To be extra sure, I even projected an eye on the tarp at the roof of the open stadium, in case Shoto blocked my sight from all other angles with his ice.

Then, right as the lights went out, I activated Immobilization Eye, stopping all of the nearly two hundred students in place.

"What?!" Present Mic exclaimed even as I avoided Shoto's amateur attempt at trapping me in ice, leaping into the air and running through the gate, climbing higher and higher with each step.

"Shikimori Haru is what. He's the most exceptional first year of this batch. That is his quirk, Argus Panoptes. He can stop anything that is within his sight. What's broken about it is that his quirk also allows him to project his eyes onto flat surfaces, like the top of the gate." Aizawa-sensei pointed out my projections, sprouting from the gate and walls. Even he didn't notice the one on the stadium roof huh?

Nice.

Suddenly, a dark purple rope caught my foot.

No, not a rope. Dark Shadow! I looked at Tokoyami focusing intensely on stretching Dark Shadow into the thin black rope.

"How about you let me go and I let you go?" I proposed.

"Sure. You first." He said.

I released him from the bindings and he did the same, as he dashed away, trying to outrace me.

Meanwhile, I ran in the air, now higher than what the zero pointer robots could reach, and immobilized Tokoyami again, this time right in the range of the zero pointers, who instantly targeted him. That should keep him busy.

Get rekt, sucker!

Avoiding all the traps, I inched forward, slowly and steadily, until I reached the threshhold of distance that I wanted them to believe was my peak range. Just about near the minefield.

I undid the projections and bindings on the participants even as I acted tired and strained from the overuse of my quirk.

I leaned on the sign, panting as realistically as I could.

Just need to give the impression that I'm not the absolute powerhouse that I really am.

I listened in on the commentators in the stadium speculating about this.

"Has Shikimori reached his limits? Is that the maximum range of his quirk?" Mic asked.

"Likely, this is about as far as he can stop people right now. You can see him panting from quirk overuse by the minefield. He has most probably used up his energy reserves and needs to rest." Aizawa-sensei replied.

"And what a shame! If he could have held on a little longer he'd have easily won the race too!" Mic said.

Eh; Good enough. Best get moving again.

As the rest of the students made it to the robots, I stretched before the minefield and began climbing the air again, this time only a couple meters high, just enough to clear the minefield without incident.

"Oh! Would you look at that! Shikimori Haru is back in the game! Has he recovered already? Cuz that was fast!" Mic said.

"Obviously not. See, he is barely keeping himself in the air, just above the ground. He's still exhausted." Aizawa-sensei explained.

"But he's pushing on anyways! That's the spirit of Plus Ultra!" Present Mic encouraged.

Past the minefield, I clicked my wheelies and skated away, even as Shoto and Bakugo tried their best to catch up.

Only I crossed the finish line before they even made it to the minefield, winning first place.

"That was an overwhelming victory for Shikimori Haru! His quirk is truly too strong! How unexpected!" Present Mic said.

"Not really." Aizawa-sensei replied in a dull tone, "During the villains' attack on class 1A, the only reason we made it out without any injuries is because Shikimori instantly stopped all the villains in place and helped capture them. Not only that, he also led the class and kept them calm in the face of unforseen danger, when by all rights, he should have been afraid himself. If he hadn't been there, I have no doubt that there'd have been more injuries, maybe even casualties. Do not underestimate him or anyone else in class 1A. They are better than the average hero course students, even in the rich history of UA."

As he sang my praises, I stood by the finish line, vomiting.

Can't have people overestimate me either. better show some more repercussions to excessive quirk use.

As for the rest of them, Deku came in second, having nearly broken his legs in the attempt.

Shoto came in a close third, and Bakugo came out fourth.

The rest of the people were a motley crew of class 1A and 1B students, with a side of Shinso, riding on a palanquin made of people, and surprisingly, for the spectators, not so much for me, Toru. She came in eighth overall in fact.

She had stripped naked and ran past everyone. And I may or may not have helped by not stopping her. Why say no to obvious eye candy?

As I pretended to be tired as Hagakure walked up to me, sporting a smug grin.

"So you didn't see me did you?" She asked.

"You have gotten cleaner huh? No frayed hair this time?" I teased.

"W-w-what? Don't tell me .... you saw?" she asked, blushing in embarrassment.

"Of course." I smiled, "I just didn't stop you. As a wise man once said, when there is eye candy, one must not hesitate to enjoy it!"

She turned the color of lava as steam exited her ears, like a boiler valve.

"B-baka!" she cried, running away.

Hehehehe. One of the perks of having 150% trance mastery is perfect memory and the gallery of anime boobs that can be kept in stock, mint condition.
