As she watched Scott heading across to the island for the night, Jackie tried to swallow her disappointment. She’d enjoyed her afternoon with him, the terrifying rappel of death notwithstanding.

“You know, Jackie, sometimes you just have to let go and fall. But I promise I’ll catch you.”

Scott’s words echoed in her mind as she poured herself a glass of wine, turned off the kitchen lights, and made her way upstairs. That afternoon, she’d defied her fear and let go. And he’d caught her, just as he’d promised.
