Jackie inhaled deeply, adoring the scent of the sun-warmed pine needles that carpeted the ground. This was absolutely her favorite kind of summer day, with the sky a deep cerulean, dotted with the occasional fluffy white cloud. The temperature was perfect, and a light breeze ruffled her dark hair.
She looked to Scott who walked beside her as they made their way down the lakes shoreline. He grinned down at her. Its a gorgeous day, isnt it?
Jackie nodded. It is. A day like this makes the cold winter ones worthwhile, she laughed lightly.
Jackie, I wanted to talk to you for a minute. Scott stopped walking, motioning to a huge tree trunk that rested at the edge of the water, a casualty of a huge storm several summers ago.
Stomach clenched in anticipation of what he might say, Jackie parked herself on the log, clasping her hands in her lap. Rather than sitting, Scott stood facing her.
