After she yanked the door open expectantly, she was met with an empty space. She glanced down the empty corridor and then the opposite direction, but not even the air around shifted. She is wide awake and had clearly heard the knocks that came on the door, why isn't there anyone out here?

This.... What sort of a dream is this, first her cat has mysteriously appeared which she had courageously decided to not pry, and now she started hearing things?

Not dream, this is a nightmare. But sadly as I said, she's wide awake.
