CHAPTER START---
"Court will resume after a 2 Hour recess," Judge Boshu's words are immediately followed by an uproar in the courtroom that's cut short when the screen cuts to a news update.
Mina immediately mutes the TV as everyone is stunned silent by what they just witnessed.
All of 1A were gathered in the common area watching the trial with bated breath, only for things to constantly escalate beyond belief.
The only sound in the room is Sero eating a bag of potato chips, waiting for the case to resume as he idly scrolls on his phone.
Beside him Shinso is tapping his foot nervously.
And among the other girls sitting on blankets and cushions on the floor, Momo and Jiro are deep in thought, forced to consider the implications of their relationship with an admitted murderer.
"Is that true?" Asui is the first to break the eerie quiet. "If Horizon leaves is everyone really going to die?"
"Pretty much," Bakugo admits, surprising many of his classmates. "Glass face is strong enough to scare the villains just as much as the regular weaklings."
"But he may have just ruined his chances at winning this case with that stunt," Ojiro says, one arm draped around Hagakure as she's clearly worried about this entire situation. "I mean causing that kind of scene after all the things he's being accused of, not smart."
"I don't know about that," Shoto taps his chin. "The only way to make people realize the truth of the situation is to be direct and stating it, and being that blunt and graphic is the best way."
"Does your dad have any thoughts about this?" Mina asks. "I'd hope the #1 Hero would have an opinion at least, or are you not allowed to tell us?"
"He's backing Horizon completely," Shoto says, surprising many of his classmates.
"Really? I didn't expect that, I figured he'd want to put Horizon in jail or something," Mina says. "Well, maybe he's not as heroic as All Might in that kind of way."
"Him not being as 'heroic' as All Might is the best course of action right now," Deku says, which definitely surprised everyone. "I hate to say it, but right now only thinking about things in terms of right and wrong will hurt a lot of people.
Horizon doesn't hurt innocent people as far as we know, and I really don't like the way he treats villains, and that he's so open about his…kills. But I don't imagine he'd just let someone put cuffs on him without a fight.
Not to mention if he really does leave Japan everything will happen exactly as he said. Endeavor must know that and understands that we atleast need Horizon here until the League Of Villains has been stopped."
Hearing that from Deku of all people makes Uraraki sick to her stomach, and for Deku, saying it felt even worse.
"I can understand how that makes sense, logically at least," Uraraka admits. "But, I don't know how I feel about sharing a classroom with some mass murderer."
"Him being here is what was keeping the villains away, remember?" Jiro asks, with a disgusted look on her face. "So as much as we may hate it, it's necessary for a while."
"That's assuming they'd even allow it," Asui says. "I mean would they allow him to return to UA, at this point why not just have him complete the Provisional Hero License time just working from Horizon Tower, or just give him a full Pro Hero License."
"Well for the first part, they're definitely gonna let him come back to UA," Kirishima says. "I mean principal Nezu is the only one he trusts and they'll want someone to keep an eye on him for them, so they have to keep those two close."
"The full Pro Hero License could still happen though," Shoji says. "I mean before they didn't do it because of the reformations in Japan's constitution regarding Quirks and Pro Heroes, plus some United Nations stuff that I still don't understand. But if they allow someone to remain free in the country after all the things he's done, making him a full Pro Hero should be nothing in comparison."
"The public would fall apart if they did that," Shinso says. "People are already getting ready to riot in the street," he gestures to the muted TV. "If Horizon is made a full Pro Hero, then that means Japan has truly accepted him for the foreseeable future."
"Yup," Sero cuts in. "But the reason we have Provisional Licenses is because Japan doesn't really trust us yet and it's easier to cut someone with just a Provisional License, which will obviously still be the plan."
"I don't get it," Mina admits. "Why keep him if they don't plan to ever accept him? It's not like he can remain a Provisional License holder forever, they'll have to make a decision in just over 2 years."
"It's like only keeping a player for one season," Tokoyami says. "Japan essentially will keep him until he deals with the League Of Villains, then he'll accept one of the offers another country has made him and the government will cut him loose."
Mina snaps her fingers, "Right! But making him a full Pro Hero would be showing some form of permanent commitment, I get it now!"
"Damn, who would have expected this to happen, just when you think you're getting to know someone," Ojiro sighs.
"Yeah, I know right," Mina says. "I mean he was always a jerk, but I never took him for a murderer." She eyes Bakugo wearily, "anything you wanna tell us Bakugo?"
"Tch, I'm not a killer Pinky! I'm gonna be the #1 Hero!"
"Alright alright," she raises her hands in surrender. "Just making sure."
"If you're gonna question anyone it should be those morons," Bakugo gestures to Sero and Shinso. "They're on his team, if anyone knew it was them."
All eyes immediately turn to them, with the exception of Momo who just keeps staring lifelessly at the TV.
"Well?" Kirishima asks. "Did you guys know?"
"Obviously not!" Sero says.
"He's always been a bit heavy handed with villains, but nothing lethal, at least that we've seen," Shinso says. "But like they said, he wasn't in his right mind during the Gigantomachy, or versus Wolfram, and against Overhaul he didn't have much of a choice."
"But he was when he tortured those villains, what about that?" Asui asks.
Sero frowns, knowing this probably won't end well, but he speaks regardless, "look, the kind of cases Horizon gets handed by the commission, with the stakes that high you really can't afford any delays when getting information out of people, maybe sometimes it goes to far but its always to save lives."
Beside him Shinso nods, but the classmates look disappointed in them all the same.
At this Momo finally moves, standing up with much of the color drained from her face as she lifelessly walks out of the room.
"I'll see you all later, I need some rest," she says while walking past them.
"Uh, don't you want to see how it ends?" Hagakure asks.
Momo stops, and they see tears forming, at the brink of overflowing, "it's Horizon, he'll win, he always wins, even when he shouldn't…" is all she says before going to her room.
Nobody speaks for a minute after she leaves, then Hagakure looks around awkwardly, "well, she took that a lot better than I expected."
"But a lot worse than a certain someone," Shinso nods toward Jiro.
"Huh, me?" Jiro asks as she feels all eyes fall onto her.
"How come you don't seem as affected, did you not care about him, or are you just better than her at hiding it?" Shinso asks.
"I did care about him, a lot," she glares at Shinso, then relaxes. "But I wasn't anywhere near as into him as Momo. "To her he's been this symbol of perfection from the first day of UA, and now he's been proven to be some kind of psychopath."
"And for you?" Shinso asks.
"It hurts, a lot, someone you've reluctantly started to l… like, turns out to be some kind of, thing, that you can't even describe. I don't even know what I'm supposed to do anymore," Jiro says as she wipes the tears the moment they start flowing.
Mina and Uraraka wrap their arms around her, "well if nothing else he owes both of you some apologies," Mina says.
"Yeah, definitely," Urakara says.
"I should go check on Momo," Jiro says as she gets up, tears still flowing down her cheeks. "I'm the only person who really understands what she's going through, so I have to be there for her," she says before quickly leaving the room to find her best friend.
After Jiro is long gone Sero leans closer to Shinso to ask quietly, "so, do you think if he comes back they'll keep sleeping with him, or is it done forever?"
Shinso looks at him as if he's a moron, "he crushed a city into a meteorite then dropped it on Japan, what do you think?"
Sero thinks about if for a moment, "definite no on Jiro, 50-50 on Momo?"
Shinso thinks about it for a moment, then sighs, "10-90 against for Momo."
"Yeah that makes more sense," Sero says.
"You two morons know we can hear you, right?" Asui smacks them both with her tongue. "And those are our friends you're talking about."
"We were just thinking of how weird things could get if he comes back, jeez," Sero rubs the side of his head."
"The better question is, would either of you remain on Team Horizon after this?" Shoto asks.
"Now that's the real question…" the entire room freezes as Horizon walks into the common area from the hallway, looking directly at Sero, "so, what'll it be, and why are you eating my chips?"

CHAPTER START---
"First of all," Sero eats another chip while everyone is frozen, just staring at Horizon. "Yes, these are your chips, but in my defense...I ran out of snaps."
"How is that any defense?"
"Because it's your fault I was so stressed out, matching you in court isn't fun."
"Are you seriously blaming me for the fact that you're eating my snacks?"
"Yup," Sero continues eating.
Beneath his visor Horizon rolls his eyes and sighs.
"Whatever, being there was less fun," Horizon says. "What about the other thing, Team Horizon?"
Sero shrugs, "depends on how this thing goes," he gestures to the TV.
"Speaking of which, shouldn't you be there?" Shinso asks. "From where we're sitting it looked like you had a mental breakdown then just disappeared."
"Nezu can handle the rest without me," Horizon says as he looks around the room, seeing a few of his classmates completely stiff, as if they were too scared to breathe in his presence. "I just had to put all my cards on the table so everyone understands what's really at stake."
"Will you really leave?" Uraraka blurts out. "I mean, if you lose the case."
"Well, do you think I deserve to be a Pro Hero?" Horizon asks, and she frowns, looking down at her lap and clenching her fists.
"No," she grits out, squeezing her eyes shut as if expecting him to lash out. "But more people will die if you leave, so I... I don't know."
Deku and some of the others are watching him closely, ready to react to anything he does.
But Horizon just nods, "not bad floaty, saying that to my face took some real balls. But yeah this situation isn't about True Hero crap, because when the chips are down the only thing that matters is the numbers."
"You can't win the chips if you walk away from the table," Shinso says. "You should go back to court."
"Nope, too late to do that now, it'll make me look weak," Horizon says. "I actually just came here to check in on my team, and get my spare sword from my room."
"You burnt all that energy just to come get Scalpel?" Sero asks.
"Honestly, it wasn't that much energy, only took me two steps to get here," Horizon chuckles. "Only took me two steps to get here."
Sero pauses for a moment, trying to do the math, but Shinso beats him to it.
"That makes you, what, ten times more powerful than before the Gigantomachy?"
Horizon chuckles deeply, "well, that's a start, I'm still getting the hang of exactly how far my reach is now, but I'm at least one order of magnitude stronger, plus a little extra."
"Well atleast if you lose your mind again we won't have to worry," Shinso says, confusing everyone. "Nobody will be alive to deal with whatever comes next."
"I've got perfect control now, that won't happen again," Horizon says. "Now have fun watching my court case, I've got more important stuff to do."
Horizon walks down the hallway toward the elevator, leaving his classmates to breathe easy once more.
"Well, he seems exactly the same," Sero relaxes into his seat.
"He acts like nothing happens, but he's a lot scarier," Asui says, wrapping an arm around Ochako to comfort the shaken girl.
As Horizon is in the elevator he checks his phone, seeing a dozen missed calls and messages from Nezu, and after texting him a simple response he puts his phone back into his pocket.
Getting to the top floor and walking slowly, enjoying the peaceful moment before he gets back to work, Horizon stops in the hallway and looks to the girls side of the dorm.
He senses Momo and Jiro talking in Momo's room.
He considers what he should do.
Then just shakes his head, "I'm not in the mood for this shit," he says before turning and walking to his room.
Entering his room Horizon turns on the lights and does a quick Scan, not sensing anything missing aside from some snacks, and no new additions.
Horizon takes a deep breath, relaxing his shoulders as he removes his visor.
Walking over to his desk he picks up his backup sword.
He grips the handle and draws it from the sheathe, only to frown at the sight of his blade.
"This isn't going to work, if I try to use that Super Move again, you'll break just like the other one," he says while sitting behind his desk, turning on his computer.
Warping his boots off he leans back into his chair while putting his feet on the desk, using Takt to levitate Scalpel just above his palm, slowly rotating for him to admire.
"I'll probably never have to use 'Divine Divide', well, unless I want to cut one of Japan's islands in half, but better to have it and not need it…" he leans forward and brings up the Hero Network.
Only to see his account locked.
"Ofcourse," he sighs, leaning back into his chair. "I doubt any material can handle my power at this point, at least not when I really put my back into it, so you'll probably shatter too…"
He raises and hand and slowly starts spinning the sword like a top, dancing in the air.
He glances between the blade and his hand for a moment, and an idea springs into his mind.
"No material can handle me, but I can handle me," he takes out his phone to make a call, but stops just before calling Mei.
He glances down at the floor, seemingly looking at it, but truly looking past his classmates, who were most definitely discussing his presence back at UA.
"Hopefully Mei isn't as conflicted as they are," he says before calling her.
To his surprise she answers on the first ring.
"Great timing, come to my lab!" she blurts out before hanging up.
Law just looks down at his phone for a moment before shaking his head, "well at least she doesn't seem mad at me."
SHAMBLES!
He appears fully suited up with Scalpel at his side, just inside her engineering room.
"What'd you need?" he asks, seeing her moving boxes around the room.
Me was covered in oil and dust, clearly having been locked in here for days working on a project of sorts.
"Move those boxes into my dorm room," she points to a few cardboard boxes at the far side of the room.
By the time she packs the box she was carrying onto the shelf and turns around the boxes are gone and Horizon stands expectantly in their place.
"Is that all?" Horizon asks.
"Yup, thanks for that, saved me a few trips," Mei says as she walks over to her drawing table, not even looking at him. "Did you need something?"
"Uhh…" Horizon takes a few careful steps toward her until he's beside her at the table, watching her draw. "I need some upgrades."
"Yeah yeah I know, I'm taking a bit long on the new skeleton you want in your Hero Costume, but the parts are taking a bit longer than expected to fabricate," Mei says without stopping her work. "It'll be ready for the sports festival at least."
Horizon is surprised for a moment, then realizes what's going on.
"Mei, when was the last time you watched the news, or left this building?"
"Dunno, when you asked for the new upgrade I guess," Mei shrugs.
"Ah, so you don't know about the Gigantomachy…"
"The what?"
"That's what people are calling it, my fight with Gigantomachia," Horizon says.
"You win?" she asked.
"Uh, yeah, but, a lot of people became collateral damage," Horizon says. He speaks slowly and carefully, expecting her to turn on him at any moment. "I sort of picked up a city then threw it at Japan."
"Wow, didn't know you could do that," was all Mei said.
Horizon takes a surprised step back, "did you hear what I said?"
"Yeah, you dropped a city from the sky or something, was that the quake I felt a few days ago, man that knocked over all my tools, and you owe me a coffee for that."
"Wait, so it doesn't bother you that I killed a lot of people?" Horizon asks.
Mei's hands stop working for a moment, then she resumes. "I can't let things like emotions get in the way of my dreams and goals. So long as you're still in the Pro Hero business I'll make your gear to get my name out there, wait, are you expelled? Is that what you're here to tell me?"
"The court case is ongoing, I'll know in a few hours," Horizon says. "But I do have some bad news for you."
Mei stopped working to look at him, narrowing her eyes at his visor, "what did you do?"
"So I got a lot more powerful very suddenly, and broke Scalpel."
She immediately throws her pencil at his visor, which he stops with Takt, "what the hell is wrong with you!" she says while punching him in the chest, not even making him move. "Do you have any idea of how hard it was to upgrade that stupid sword for you!"
"Which is why I'm here to discuss another upgrade," he gently holds her shoulders and makes her take a step back.
"What, so you can break another one of my babies?"
Beneath the visor he rolls his eyes, "look either you can make it or I call Melissa."
Mei immediately stops talking, but keeps glaring at him with obvious disapproval, "tch, traitor..." She returns to drawing her designs. "What was the issue with the one that broke?"
"Energy overload, the metal can't handle my Booster Shot flowing through it to that level."
"I didn't know Booster Shot could flow into inanimate things."
"Booster Shot is the basis of my new move, Divide, basically energy slash projectiles." he explains.
"Why do you even need those, doesn't Amputate cut open everything?"
"Yeah but Divide does real damage from range, that's invaluable, anyway I need a sword that can handle it."
"Well I don't even have to look at what happened to know the only thing that might be able to handle your energy is you, so, you'll need an organic Hero Costume, or at least just a sword."
"Ok, so you need me to shave my head?" Horizon shrugs. "I can make my hair grow pretty quick so it shouldn't be a problem, how much?"
Mei stops working and looks at him, then takes one step forward and touches his jacket, feeling the material.
Then does the same for his shirt, pants, tie, torso, then pokes his body, feeling the gel plates of his Body Glove beneath.
She steps away and does the math in her head, then speaks, "it'll take at least a few feet of hair for this much fabric, considering the amount of layers you have. Not to mention that the amount of unique energy flowing through them will wear it down quickly if we don't mix in enough."
"Will that work for the sword too?" Horizon asks.
Mei chuckles darkly at that, "oh no, for that I'll need something harder."
"Like, fingernails?"
"You and I both know what I'm talking about…" she gives him a devious look, enjoying this small revenge for him breaking Scalpel.
Horizon sighs, "fine, how many of my bones do you need?"
