That night the hunchbacked monster no longer attacked. Having received a sprinkling of salt from Daniel shortly before entering the boy's room, its existence was now almost unimaginable.

There was no movement at all or just the scraping of a twig outside the window. Suddenly the world became silent as if it had lost its sound from the earth's core. Or if possible, humans had been deaf for an indeterminate time.

But strangely, Wendy's soft snoring could still be heard by Daniel. They slept side by side, often awakened by sharp hallucinations from an actual assault that had occurred.

How could two teenagers sleep peacefully in a place where they were attacked? Just like the soldiers on the battlefield. They would even feel stalked and threatened on many occasions.
